califrag passed by our forums recently to announce that there is an update for warPSP^xmb Alpha. For those of you unfamiliar with the said plugin application, it basically serves as a wireless hotspot scanner for your PSP.

So what's new with the update? califrag informs that now, all access point names are displayed correctly. Also, instead of displaying security as X (Protected) or O (unprotected), the access point is now red if protected and white if unprotected. califrag says that he got this idea from a suggestion made by Loonix.

Below is a youtube video of the application in action.

Plans for the future of this application includes GPS integration, plans to an Auto-Connect feature, wherein the first unprotected access point with the highest signal strength will be automatically added to network configuration, and Data Logging.

For more information on the application, feel free to visit the forum thread. califrag also listed there several known bugs and issues, and the reasons and problems behind them. To download the update, you can click on the download link below. For installation instructions, you can head to the Forum Thread, be sure to follow califrag's instructions, as installation involves flashing your PSP.

Keep the updates coming califrag, great work!

just cause you posted a thread about it in 2005 doesn't mean you originally thought of this... wardriving has been around since the dawn of wireless internet...

:cough is correct that "wardriving has been around since the dawn of wireless internet.", but before it was called wardriving, it was called warchalking because the first wardrivers would mark free hotspots with a circled W on the side of the walls of these locations in chalk.

actually this all originated from "wardialing" from 1983 the movie WarGames

"Wardriving was named after wardialing, since both techniques involve brute-force searches to find computer networks... wardialing was named after the movie and the software did not openly exist before the movie"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardriving

anyways dumb debate

I was talking about this exact program for the PSP! not the PC or any other thing.. It still shows that the idea was spwaned back in 2005 for the PSP.

If i could have coded it, i would have.. back in 2005.

Nice job regardless.

Props. again.

You are an idiot, so you would have made this plugin in, before there was firmware that could run plugins? real smart you loser.

# wep crackingGuest 2007-04-29 21:55
I believe WEP cracking involves taking packet samples from the data stream coming from the access point and then stitches the packets in a way in which it can begin to grab bits of the password from each packet and eventually put it together The psp would easily be able to collect the packets needed for the password buts its small processor would take months to decipher it I would assume? Maybe the author could simpy allow the data to be collected on the psp and have a sister application that would then work over that data on a pc to decipher. Or perhaps I am completely wrong and the psp can happily crack a wep key with its processing power. Anyone have any ideas?
