Custom Firmware 3.51 M33-4 from Team M33 - Image 1 QJ.NET PSP Development Forum mainstay blackbird 0001 has just informed us that Team M33 has come up with a new update for its custom firmware, bringing it up to 3.51 M33-4. Take note that this is different from the recent CFW addon provided by coder Test30.

Anyway, what we have here is a cumulative update, meaning previous improvements such as the WLAN fix and the no UMD function have been included again alongside new additions. Also, take note that this release is now complete with plugin options for 1.5 kernel homebrew. Anyway, here's the changelog:
  • Bugfix for the released yesterday no-umd. This should fix the exit to the XMB with error 80020001 that happened to some people, or reduce its appearance.
  • Added plugins options for homebrew that use 1.50 kernel. The file to be used for it, is ms0:/seplugins/game150.txt.
  • There is other bugfix, but we don't know if it will make much difference in compatibility.
  • In order to make compatibility tests, please remember that your ISO shouldn't be more than 54 chars.
If this is going to be your first time to use Team M33's custom firmware, please refer to the Readme file first before installing the program on your PlayStation Portable unit. It is also helpful to read the posts from our PSP Development Forum for an extensive discussion about this.

*UPDATE* (Original article posted Jul 18, 2007 at 11:15AM)

McDanny just emailed us of a quick update for M33-4 custom firmware by Team M33. In a matter of hours, the previous version has now been bumped up to M33-5 with a tiny bug fix. Tiny as it might be, its effects are substantially big. To quote his email (it's also what's written on the Readme file, by the way):

Greetings!

This update (yet another) fixes two important bugs in the no-UMD mode. The bugs affected SOCOM 2, Virtual Tennis 3 and probably many more games.

» Really

I admire your work, and your CF is good.

But perhaps you should have waited to release it, AFTER it was fully/ closer to 100% working.

Instead of releasing so many updates. you could have released one firmware that was great as is.

anywho, keep up the good work

I agree with Bobtentpeg. I man I don't use this firmware because personally I'm waiting for that "mystery" team's. But I mean you released a patch for your FW yestarday, and now you're releasing a patch, for the patch.

I don't know, maybe you were in to much of a rush to be the first ones to create a CFW.

Don't get me wrong though no matter what good work.

by Why? - 2007-07-18 06:46
» This FW sux

Why keep updating this, its just getting to become a chore to update. especially when the 3.40 OE-A that DAX made is almost bug free and has almost all the features....

Just seems pointless as of now

by b@stard - 2007-07-18 06:59

By the time that GOW comes out there were be something better than this, and I also dont play many UMD games so why the hell do I care?

This gives better NoUMD Support. I don't personally use the feature, but it is a new feature that they improved themselves.

are the freezing issues worked out in this update? and also, whats the location of the folder you put legally backed up ps1 games into? because I only have been using 3.03 OE-C

» arent we clever

I;m not suggesting its up to me, all I;m doing is suggesting that maybe they should have completed more of thier firmware before relasing.

and technically it isnt "free" b/c i have to pay to get the interent to download it, pay to get a PSP, pay to get a memory card, and what ever else i needed to pay for so i could get this "free" firmware.

Also, I use m33, and I;m fine with the updates.

so kindly remove your head from up your @5S.

oo and I;m 5 foot 11 and only 185 pounds so I'm not fat

by pip - 2007-07-18 07:27
» no one likes testing

its harder to find bugs than to fix them. having some 1000s of users playing with it will result in bugs beeing found way sooner than if 1-2 people have a go at it.

its better they spend time improving and fixing firmware and let others find the bugs, as annoying as that may sound for you. that way things are improving conssiderably faster.

by Dammit - 2007-07-18 07:27
» Lol

I would've been on 3.51 M33 right now, but when I was, I couldn't seem to run PSX games. Everytime I tried to run one, I would just see my waves in my XMB and the game would not run. So unless anyone can help me with this crap, I'm gonna stay on 3.40 OE-A until a different Custom Firmware arises.

by Bobtentpeg - 2007-07-18 07:35
» thank you

Thanks you^^, you had an intelligent post, and I see where your coming from. But there the errors their fixing arent obscure ones really, their the simpler ones that are caused b/c they are linked to readily available options

F**k you i dont have my head in my arse!!!

» What does it matters

Hey, i think it's good that they keep updating it i've noticed also that it wasn't 100% but with this patches they are gonna make it a 100% so why is everybody complaining about the patches? Thnx 2 them we've now 3.51 CFW:D and they are everything doing what's possible te make it better:)

Just to clarify, do I just copy the M33-4 Over to games and run it and nothing else? Also I am in process of doing the M33 351 OE update and was wondering can I delete both of the directories over after it has updated?

Thanks

by Minas - 2007-07-18 08:27
» release

i think b@stard is right, allthough he is overreacting a little zomg. i rather like to have the 3.51 cfw a few days/weeks/months sooner than having to wait for the *perfect* release

by GaveUpTomorrow - 2007-07-18 08:51
» This firmware is just as good

as 3.40OE-A, if not better. I've been using it from the first day it was released and I've run into no problems whatsoever....how about you actually try it before making comments on it? DA isn't the only person who can make CFW, and its funny that after all of this time that DA made his OE firmwares, his releases become useless and obsolete after just a few weeks ;)

by GaveUpTomorrow - 2007-07-18 08:53
» I had no problems with my PSX games...

on M33, maybe you're doing something wrong or need to re-compile your game?

by Vin - 2007-07-18 09:02
» still not workin fully

much better in that the M33 Driver for No-UMD doesnt show that error message and return to the xmb but the game itself still doesnt play completely. Tested compressed cso of yu-gi-oh gx tag force with fake region and free region disabled. game works fine until you try to start the duel, then memory card reader keeps flashing constantly and game freezes.

its gettin better! but not quite their yet (love to see this work!)

by Voice of Clarity - 2007-07-18 09:25
» Well, while you guys are busy being A**Hats....

This new update GREATLY INCREASED NO-UMD COMPATIBILITY.

Every single game that did not work previously with no umd inserted, now WORKS!

- Metal Gear Acid 2 - WORKS

- Yugi-Oh - WORKS

- Traxxpad - WORKS

- Monster Hunter 2 - WORKS

Still testing others. These are the main games i play.

bobsponge,

first, i didn't heard you crying so much when DAX made his updates and fixes (a, a2, etc). sure there are bugs. even sony official firmware got them. it's up to you to install a CF and test it. M33 group cant test all the games and homebrew.

and IT IS free. you don't pay a damn nickel for this download. it's you problem that you bought a psp. i got mine as a gift + memory card, so it is free for me.

and for the M33 group:

if you read this, keep up with the great work.

First off, I did actually ask, why he didnt he make it right the first time.

And its very irresponsible to say, its up to YOU to test it, no it not, its up to the makers to test it, if its not safe oe if it doesnt work they shouldnt have released it

» CAn it be uninstalled

I am running m33. Runs ok.. few compatibility issues. Is it possible to downgrade? Meaning can I go back to 1.5 then back up to say 3.03 OE?

by Snarg - 2007-07-18 15:52
» .

The answer to that is easy, if you just use some basic logic.

Does m33 have 1.50 kernel access?

Does the 3.03 OE installer run with 1.50 kernel access?

Does the 3.03 OE installer write the boot strap, and format flash0?

yes, yes, and yes.

There's no need to even go back to 1.5 first

Please read this, you will be excited. When you click this link, http://xrl.us/2z4h you will go to a website that will show you how to sign up for another website that pays you 2 - 45$ (PER) to do surveys, sign up for trial offers, and test products.

Companies such as ebay pay CC to have people try their offers, and when you complete an offer, CC simply passes the money onto you. By spending an average of 3-4 hours a week on cascrate,

I have made 472$ in May, 412$ in June, and 271$ (SO FAR) in July. You get paid in real checks from "KNGSIDE MEDIA" every month that you earn 10 dollars or more. It may seem too good to be true,

but I assure you it IS true. Also, with their referral program, you can refer people by sending them your link (you get when you sign up) and for every buck they earn, you get 20 cents also! (Think how much money you can make if you have 100 people making five bucks a day)

You do not have to enter your credit card or social security number. Nothing Harmful can come from CC. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE 18 OR OLDER, I AM 15 YEARS OLD AND REFERRING PEOPLE, AND I MAKE THIS MUCH MONEY A MONTH

JUST SPENDING A COUPLE MINUTES A DAY ON THE COMPUTER! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THIS.

Think it's a scam? Read this(from the website) "We assure you that this is not a scam! Companies need consumers to try and review products, services, and websites and are willing to pay money to have them do so.

Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation, what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 75% of it!"

There are alot of websites like this, I have tried almost all of them and this really is the best, and legit one.In addition there is a new UK section opened with more then $200 worth of free offers!

For those whinnie turds who failed to understand how great this M33 cf & its updates perform, stfu ! Only those turds who though this cf gave prob 2 psx games & a lot of bugs in it r all BS. This new cf has is a lot more stable & more complex than u think u hv in previous cf like 3.40oe. those who only truely know the depth of this new cf will greatly cherish it.

very commonly, these turds claimed they hv bugs after accepting M33 r afterall morons. Being the fact that none of the previous cfs were bug free. 1 solid reason is Sony keeps on implementing tighter security features on every new official fw which make reverse engineering harder to accomplish.

all ms. whinnie who complaint about M33 shld shut up! they work very hard & fast round the clock while some of u still sleeping...& for what? it's free afterall.

u hv the old option to stick yr head back to previous cf that u think it's more stable but let me tell u, next time dun cry when u can't play FF7 crisis core ! TURDS !

I HAVE THE 3.51 M33-5 AND ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT AUTHENTIC DAX FIRMWARE. ITS NICE TO KNOW THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE OUT THERE NICE ENOUGH TO MAKE CFW FOR ALL OF US WHO LIKE TO GET THE MOST OUT OF OUR PSPS. IF U HAVEN'T UPGRADED TO THE IEA M33. IT'S WELL WORTH IT. 2 RECOVERYS IS GREAT FOR YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE STRAIGHT BRICKERS. SHOUT OUT TO M33 FROM THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WHO DO APPRECIATE THE WORK LIKE ME.

by axelixc - 2007-07-18 19:19
» agreed

1 example is the opening_plugin. sony has change the soundboot format. the header in opening_plugin.prx has been edited to wav. the soundboot location of the VAG files in the plugin has been changed. So some would complain that this m33 cfw can't customise coldboot sound, dun target m33. it's sony who change it. not them. for those who can't boot psx game who previously could is bcoz they probably use the old opening_plugin in 3.51 cf. it's not compatible. customise it in decryted 3.51 opening plugin, then u'll know they is no problem.

another thing is the sysconf_plugin. an old sysconf from previous cfw would give problem to 3.51 m44 xmb system configuration + 1 would think that they is something wrong with m33 installer. wrong! it's also bcoz of sony changed it.

by axelixc - 2007-07-18 19:23

it's kinda like dax fw. m33 reversed his code to build a new 1. most of the fuction such in rec mode + pops loader r from alex's code. they just made it more pleasant + better. it's a great achivement. i believe alex would smile too : )

I've used this firmware since it was first released and I've had no problems at all, all my backups work, all my PS1 games work, not had any problems, I suggest the people who are having problems to go back and look at what they have done wrong, because this is fine as it is.

» Accumulative patch?

One thing that's not really clear, I think.

Is this last patch M33-5 containing all the earlier patches like the one with the WiFi patch etc?

Do I have to run them all and also in correct order to make it work?

I mean, is there a bricking risk just to go directly for this last patch or not?

This should be clearly stated I think.

I'm still on 3-40oe-a, and I'm just waiting until I see that this firmware appears to be reliable enough.

Even better, wait for the next full update of it, so that I get everything in one install.

BTW, I'm glad that the scene continues and that there are more coders out there who knows how to create custom firmwares.

Keep it up guys!

» Who cares?

The only feature that this one has over 3.40 OE-A is more No-UMD support and I don't use UMDs that much. Also I have tried this out and it freezes every other waking moment, even with the updates...

» quick question

can you have the original 3.51 m33 fw and update to this version, or do you first have to dl the other updates(wlanfix ,...) to install this one? didn't say in the manual, post or the comments...

by dudeman3 - 2007-07-19 06:10
» i agree with b@stard

They can release it whenever they want plus who the heck doesn't enjoy downloading new updates that have to do with the CF, it's much more fun than downloading it all at once and checking back every day for the next cf to come out, plus i love cf i hope some will be able to hack the new psp, !!!CF Rules!!! and !!!M33 Rules!!!

» Upgrade question

Can you simply upgrade from the base 3.51 M33 or do you also have to install update M33-4 before you can update to M33-5?

by who cares - 2007-07-19 09:10
» wtf

well i heard your going to need an updater to update that new update m33 team came out with and your going to needa do that everyday for a week until they make a new updater wich will be a more time consuming process with tons more updates. and once your done updating your going to needa patch that updater with the 500th patch out however it can only be ran on the latest updated m33 FW . And when your done updating you can have your 3 seconds of fun playing illegally downloaded games =) and then you update again.(sarcasm)

seriously don't release something unless you really think there isn't any major or minor problems .the only reason you keep updating is cuz your noobs who download illegal games, yet say your doing it for homebrew reasons.and go ahead and flame me little 10 year old psp fanboy bi***** who want everyone to do all this CFW for them.

All you do is just download and flash the *****ing thing, and now you guys are complaining??? Shame on you *****ers!!!

» M33 did not install

I tried doing the M33. On my machine specifically it didnt work. Goes to 1.5 then after it finishes and creates the 3.51 update, when I run it it says : PSR incorrect and quits.

The PSR file it creates is 17mb, I am told it's supposed to be double that, anyone know what this means?

Tried it many times. Worked on some other PSPs not mine.

If you ever programmed anything, especially a project you're going to constantly want to add features to, you'd realize how *****ing retarded you are right now.
