TVSP Released. Watch TV on your PSP! |
Ó

Well, the good news just keep on flowing in. After the first playable N64 Emulator, we now have our very own homebrew Location Free Player! Yes, you don't have to buy an expensive $350 Location Free Base Player to watch TV on your PSP. This homebrew program does it for free!
Written by Lok Tai Fung, this program can receive wi-fi signals from DScaler, using a TV Capture/Tuner on your PC. Yep, all of it is free, apart from the TV Capture card of-course! Here's an excerpt from the readme:
"How did I come up with TVSP? Hmmm, it was one day in my bathroom to take a load off :-) When all of a sudden, omg, I have forgotten to bring anything in to entertain myself. Not a Maxim magazine in sight. Delerium sets in. What have I done??? While being quite bored, I had an epiphany. Hey, wouldn't it be cool if I can watch TV in the can. The rest is history."

Features:
- Watch TV anywhere with a wifi connection.
- Allows channel changes.
- No sound yet. It'll be added in the next version
Update: The .ini file wasn't uploaded in the previous download. Re-download it if you can't figure out how to input your IP address.

Nothing I would buy, to expensive, but cool that it's made!
TV on PSP
yes the greatest homebrew untill now for 2.0+ i hope
finally watch my entire south park collection when i,m *****ting on the toilet
well i guess that would be possible cause streaming the picture of a tv card is possible
wtf is a tv capture card? where do you buy that or do new computers ocme with it?
Another great app. These days the PSP scene is being GREAT!
the download link for the program doesnt work
and i founded a 4115 version my self but when installed properly and running the program i get an : can,t create overlay surface: 88760028
You have to buy a TV Tuner/Capture card seperately. Still, it's only about $50. Lot more cheaper than a $350 Base Station.
Does this work on firmware 2.6 with the GTA eLoader?
The download link works fine here.
there is no tvsp.ini in my rar, do i have to create it or should it be there
wow im glad im sticking with 1.5
homebrew scene will thrive again wuahahha!
I have updated the download with a .ini file inside. Re-download it if you were having problems earlier
at all the people who upgraded.
*still feels for the people who got their's that way.
Wow, THIS IS AWESOME. Can't wait to try it out. Watching TV, while im at work on my PSP. That a thing i dreamed 4. :)
got it, the link was http instead of ftp
and the error i getted was becouse i also was running windows media player
I get some kind of error, it tries to initialize and get an ip then says resolving host, enter pc ip 8888
Then something like
scenetresolver start ntoa failed -bunch of numbers
You still need to connect to the internet through the PSP right?
Yer i get that same error as #15
Every time i try to start it, init WLAN and then gets this error "sceResolverStar tntoa failed -2143222764".
Hopefully there's support for these cards in the future as I have 2 All-in-Wonder cards and would love to watch TV on PSP.
Should I be using my public IP:
77.117.ETC.ETC
Or my private IP:
192.168.0.ETC
And in the ini shouldl I put myip:8888 ?
does this work on 2.7
I would love if a newer release would use VLC in stead of Dscaler. That way you could stream from a linux box and/or htpc.
I'm getting the same error as #15 and #17, anyone know how to fix this? Or if someone else go this to work, post a detailed walkthrough.
what video capture cards DO work with this? i have an older WinTV card and id love to play with this!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOO! Y THE F*** DID I UPDATE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AA OMGOMGOMGOMG
PS. Wat channels do u get for this
i think that dudes pc setup rocks out.
a question for all the tech-ie people out there...
...is it possible to stream the data from the PC to the PSP using the home network rather than through the internet??
I have download/upload restrictions from my ISP and and I can't waste too much data :(
Yes, just use your Local Network IP
ex: 192.168.1.1
Anyone could explain please some things?
If i download this and add it to PSP, and have wifi connection, can i watch TV right away?
Or what do i need to do?
Thanks.
anybody can put an example of tvsp.ini?
i have the same error message as #15, #17 and #22. Please i will be so happy.
And thanks to the writer of tvsp. You have turned my load off in sth funny :):):):)
Cannot find "menu BTCard->PixelWidth to 320" ?
How do i set it to PixelWidth 320?
Anyone?
if you need a pc and tv capture card you may as well watch it on your pc...........
or better still i'd rather watch tv on my 32" widescreen
concerning the ip to put in the .txt file, is it the same ip that my PSP reads when i configure the wifi network ?
The show that is playing is House.
The point is that you don't have to watch TV only when you're at home. This sort of thing allows you to watch TV on your PSP anywhere you can access the internet. That means, you could potentially watch TV at work, school, Starbucks, where ever you want as long as you have wifi access to the 'net. Of course, you'd rather watch it on a regular TV when you're at home. The point is to allow you to watch when you're not home. If you don't want to watch TV away from home or never leave the house with your PSP, then this software isn't for you.
erase everything in the .ini and just put the LAN ip of the streaming computer. the problem was that \\ don't work to make commenting characters.
open ini > delete everything > put 192.168.x.x > save
#37 have u got this working
Got it working.
Thanks #37
What u said did it.
Does it work with 2.7????????????
Well okey I dont have a tv thing in my PC, but maybe I will just steal my brothers card and.. yeah that sound fair.
#40: 2.7? Dont think even the GTA exploit works with 2.7... so the answer is: YES! IT DOES WORK with 2.7! Woho!
Just kidding, dunno but no, I dont think it will work with 2.7. But who knows...
There is no chance it would work on 2.7 no homebrew works.
when the psp connects with pc, dscaler crashes and also psp
:(
Help plz
same problem as #15 & #17... ("sceResolverStar tntoa failed -2143222764")
also tried what #37 said...
no joy...
any1 got any other ideas?
ut.
I wonder if there is any way i can use DVB-S (Satellite) Cards with DScaler to stream DIGITAL TV to TVSP ??
someone know that?
when the psp connects with pc, dscaler crashes and also psp
:(
Help plz
P.D: i got 2.01
Very cool app!
Only thing at this point is that its no use really,
when u don't have sound...
But we'll be patient!
i only have a laptop, can i get a card for that?
also i guess my pc has to be on at home for me to access tv channels when i'm out?
please help the non techie people please
to #45:
got a nebula digitv here, and dscaler only sees the composite video in. Dscaler was made for analogue tv really, so nope no support for dvb. (that i know of).
btw using 2.01 here too
what im doing is running the tv out of my gfx to the composite in of my nebula digitv,
kinda like running a second monitor in a window (in dscaler), was hopeing to be able to then run dvb-t app on "second monitor".
unfortunatly windows doesnt enjoy having more then one overlay.... but mediaplayer works alright on second monitor..
now if only i could get tvsp to work.. :)
ut.
what i am doing is plugging in my Digital Set top box into my tv card and turning Dscaler on composite and watching digital tv on the psp.
limited applications, since it has to be near your pc. you might as well watch your real tv and save your eyestrain. not to mention the difficulty getting this to work with your digital cable or satellite. otherwise youre stuck watching local air-broadcast tv, which generally sucks.
is there any software that will stream xvid videos from your pc wirelessly? now THAT would be cool.
to #48:
yes you can get usb tv units for laptops. quite a few of them around these days, hauppauge r good, i personally am a fan of nebula electronics.
general:
has any1 tried this over the internet? must need quite a bit of bandwidth!
ut.
In case someone know or plan to do..
Are there any plans to use the PSP together with the 'VIDEO DISK RECORDER' (VDR) by Klaus Schmidinger.
There are many possible useful functions in my mind that the PSP can provide..
1. Infrared Remote for the VDR
2. Programming of Recordings through graphical EPG
3. Streaming live TV or recordings via WLAN (mplayer)
4. ...
what is VDR: http://www.linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/Main_Page
DAMMM,my friend has a tv tuner on his comp, and his comp is new,got it last week, well it looks like i go to his house and put the program on his comp so i can access it,ANYWERE
I updated a few days ago! Worst Move Ever!! Ah damn I really feel f'ed up right now, I seriously want this :(
is this a program for 1.5 users?
or is it through the location free player through 2.0(or whatever)+
i get a "can't create overlay surface:88760168" error!! how do I fix it. Thanks if you help
Hi all im getting crazy errors then it crashes and iv port forwarded and iv done the IP thing WAT NOW!
thanks Chris Serpo
how do i get my private ip?
ok,
here is how i got it working, finally,
i couldnt get it to even detect my wifi when i only had one network connection in my presets, so just made a second dumby one with the "network settings" option in the default psp os.
that got me passed the init WIFI line... when running tvsp.
then make sure as #37 said that you only have your ip address in the ini file.
thats how i got mine to work, hope that helps...
ut.
This is much better than location free because here "free" has dual meaning... TV at work = happy employee.
see, this kinda homebrew doesn't hurt anyone and it makes the PSP more and more attractive.
Is he the person who made DJSP? I love DJSP, and this is looking cool too.
I was also wondering if he is ever going to update DJSP.
does this work on 2.6?
Anyone got it to work on a 2.0? If yes, how....
Thanks in advance!
no support i wish a exploit is created for this firmwire, to allow me to use it
This programs is teh balls!
Keep up the great work, can't wait for the next update!!!
Where can i find the BTcard so i can set it to with 320.
Please help.
jujust buy a locationfree player, if u really wanna use this feature, I mgiuth test it out, cuz many times Ive thoguht of buying that TV capture card from ATi, only $100
how do i get this ip 192.168.x.x
Go to (on your computer) Start -> Run. Type "cmd", press enter. Type "ipconfig" in the black window. Try the three sets of numbers.
then i get
10.0.0.4
255.255.255.0
10.0.0.138
Try those 3 sets of numbers.
#63, yes I wrote DJSP, but let's just say I'm not at liberty to update it anymore, so I decided to work on something new.
Anyway, here's some clarifications to help you guys.
1) For the INI file, make sure the IP is on the first line. The program reads the first line from tvsp.ini file and connects to this ip.
2) Your DScaler server computer can be over the internet or just in the same network. If your psp is in the same network, then you DO NOT have to configure your router to forward port 8888. Forward port 8888 only if you wanted to connect from work or somewhere over the internet.
3) It uses the first connection profile (or second, I don't remember). Just make sure the first two profiles can access your router correctly.
4) DScaler is a Win32 only program. I will use VLC in the future since it makes more sense (i.e. more tv card compat, etc). However it was much quicker doing this with DScaler since I have it already on my computer.
Tips:
I had a thought. You can use it like a security system if you have a video camera attached to DScaler's input. Anyways, enjoy.
This doesn't work for me. It connects to my network just fine, gets IP but when it tries to connect to the DLL server it never starts. I did select even lines only but obviously I can't set the width in BT options since I don't have or see that tab. DScaler displays my local file just fine (since I lack a BT8x8 card) but tvsp won't connect.
I'm hoping your VLC version will work for me. Hopefully I'll also be able to use my DVB-T box this way.
thx for the work already done..
Hi, does VLC supports the Compro Videomate DVB-T 300 Card?
This would be great as a security app. Then I will be able to know whats going on at my house at all times if I have access to a wifi connection xD
Hi, I see that VLC supports the Card, so please can you use in the next version VLC Player instead of DScaler.
vlc would be awesome.
then i could also use my settop box.
i´m currently using vlc for udp streaming from it.
any chance that you´ll support that in future versions? :)
well i am no n00b but i have a capture card some where but i cba 2 put it bk in pc just tryed this app using an iso but i dont thing it wants to work just crashes psp
thanks for the good release
i have a hauppage wintv usb, i dont get the btcard option, when i run th program on my psp it shuts down dscaler.
Make sure to set PixelWidth to 320. It might be in another menu. Just look for a PixelWidth submenu and change it to 320.
for laptop users, u can a an usb 2.0 tv card. ati and avermedia have some nice cards. as the laptop(pcmcia), i'd say avermedia has the best ones and there's not that many pcmcia tv cards out there. i think theres a site called http://www.tv-card.com you can check them out and it has a forum and reviews hope it helps u tv card newbies out there
Good Video Speed - better that with PMPStreamer - maybe they should work together ...
Or is it so fast because of missing sound? We will see in the next release.
Great work! Can´t wait
This program is the dogs...
My set-up...
PSP 2.60 (it does work!!)
MSI TV@nywhere Master (this is not a BT card it's a CX one)
Belkin ADSL modem wireless router
It works great. Just been watching Eastenders (Pah!)
This is great, been waiting for something like this for a while now, since I swapped my iPAQ for a PSP (was much easier to do on iPAQ!).
My setup:
- FW 2.6
- eloader 0.97
- static IP connecting through wifi access point
- Pinnacle PCTV Rave PCI card with official 5.50 drivers
Exits perfectly back to eloader when you press 'start' ;)
Not tested with any other setups but this worked straight out the box for me.
Thankyou Lok, can't wait for sound to be added, in my haste to try this I didn't read the post properly and have been trying to get sound working for the last hour or so! lol
Keep up the good work!
'(^_^)'
ye this screwed with a driver file and stops my pc from booting can old boot in safe mode but when i do i have to press esc to stop vax347b.sys or sumart like from booting or my pc just dunt boot be warned !!!!!!!!!
How do I set the BTCard to 320?
#91: In one of the menus, look for a submenu called PixelWidth. Choose that menu option and set it to 320.
Do you know what the menu it is in I looked at all of them
maybe a little bit more precise, cant find it!
i cant seems to find it... any obvious clue/hints please..? under which tab? Thanks
The way I see it is that certain cards don't get the BTCard or pixelwidth menu. I could be wrong, but if someone who does have the BTCard menu would go to menu Sources and tell us what it says next to the name of their capture card. Does it say (BTCard)? I have a Hauppage WinTV PVR PCI II capture card and next to it, it says (DShow). I also get a DShow menu option with no pixelwidth.
can i use this software just to stream my videos from my computer to psp
Genius U R GENIUS!!! COOOOOOLLL LOVE YOU..
HOTTEST ON INTERNET..
The next version I'll fix the pixel width problem. I currently have an ATI Wonder VE and it probably uses a BT8x8 chipset.
#97: Only if it's fed into DScaler. You can hook up a DVD Player, Game system, Video Camera, anything you want as long as it's fed into the TV Card.
My configuration is exactly the same as Zero.Wing, I got it to work, but can't select the channels... any clues?
when psp connects to dscaler they both crash...
Hi,
I have fw2.6 and an ATi All-in-wonder - set everything up as instucted got the ini file and everything.
My PSP says its connected (it gets IP and everything) but one of two things happens....
1 - Both PSP and Dscaler crash
2 - PSP says connection failed aftertrying to connect to a the socket (it was something along htose lines anyway)
The only thing i can think of that may be different is the pixelwidth thing because my ATI all-in-wonder doesnt use a BT chipset - the nearest thing to pixelwidth i could find was "Resolution" which i changed to 320 x 240.
Anyone else had any luck with an ATI 9800Pro All-in-Wonder?
Gettin an error..
Connecting to socket
Connection failed..
this is wat i get when i tried to do so.. In DScaler it said 'call to bind() returned 10048' ? error in dll?
When is the next one going to be released or any clue when???, because this one is to hard to make it work. i couldn't get it to work, so i gave up. thxs
21. "I would love if a newer release would use VLC in stead of Dscaler. That way you could stream from a linux box and/or htpc."
Great Idea. A HTPC remote control with fullscreen GUI.
People that do not know what a capture card is.. Just ignore this topic. There isn't a chance in hell of you getting it working.
number 93 types like a *****
I don't know how to set my "Pixel Width" to 320...Where do I do that at, in the "DScaler" program? ...I'm so confused, and I need to know how to work this. And in the "Deinterlace" menu, there's no "Scanlines" option...WTF?
Can someone get on aim and walk me through the steps because I guess I'm a noob and need help.
i too get the error and then my PSP shuts down. i have just my comps local IP in the .ini file so im lost now.
#107, i too cannot find the pixel width option, but in the deinterlace menu, there should be 2 columns. in the right one it is around the middle and says "evn scan lines only"
ok so i got everything done except changing the resolution size to 320 can someone please tell me how i would really like it if somone could give us a walkthrough
I read that you will migrate to VLC - that sounds fantastic but please do not abandon DScaler support. Dscaler works soooo well with an older noname BT878xx capture card that I have and I love the idea of a SECURITY system. I just bought a house and the long driveway would be perfect to keep an eye on while at work.
I also look forward to VLC support due to other capture hardware I own and the general goodness of VLC.
EXCELLENT WORK!
If your still getting that weird cant connect error - make sure the ini is empty except for your ip i.e. 10.0.0.2 - make sure theyres no slashes //
So glad this was made! We really needed a homebrew Location Free Player! Much less expensive, no upgrading! Excellent work, and I can't wait till it gets sound. When it does, I'll immediately buy the card and get it all set up :). Great job!
how u get ur ini.
Just installed this on my 2.0 and it works great, slight lag (milliseconds) but not bad!
I tried using my web ip address but it failed. =/
Looking forward to sound support and web ip address support!
SOO u need your comp with a tv cord to get it to work?
This is a GREAT homebrew program! Thank you for making this! It doesn't work yet with my tuner card, but from what I am reading, it will within the next few releases. Keep up the awesome work!
great prog. I first got the connection fail dll make u use the "Even Scanlines Only". Now the Server DLL is running. can't wait for the audio. great apps
I have a ATI TV Wonder VE Card, and I set up everything in DScaler, The TVSP.ini file has nothing but my ip address in it, and TVSP still doesn't work. I am still getting the connection failed error. Any suggestions?
Okay I got it working, but for some strange reason I cant change channels. Any suggestions?
Oh and for those of you out there that still cant get it working, try doing this. Instead of putting 192.168.1.1 , put 192.168.1.100
I LOVE the doors this program is opening! I can't wait to see faster streams with sound.
Keep up the good work! The PSP community is LOVING IT.
Any chance of someone doing the PC end for me? I dont have 50$ to spend on tv tuners and such. lol
PLEASE WHERE DO I PUT TVSP% AND TVSP IN THE PSP?? IN THE GAME FOLDER? WHERE? PLEASE HELP, ONE WORD ANSWER THANX
does it work on 2.7?
so does this work for 1.5?
if not, dammit
otherwise, i am runnning wid a ati aiw 9800 graphics card, i cant find the pixelwidth sub menu, and even if i skip that step it says connection failed.
plz help, im begging here :((
its slow and makes the DScaler program use 99% of my 2.5 ghz CPU and gives me 1-2fpm(frames per minute) but nice to show that it can be done
Strange, i got it to work and in real time..
126: are u streaming in full format?
PLEASE MAKE A VLC compatible version ASAP!
My TV Tuner is Mpeg2 encoder type (MCE compatible) and Dscaler doesn't support such cards. (Dscaler is extremely outdated btw).
Please we need a VLC version!
I get an "sceNetApctlConn ect failed" error. I had many wireless connections but the program didn't select the right one so I deleted all but this. Now I get this error.
My PSP is 2.6 with latest eLoader.
i followed what the readme said word for word im using 2.0 with eloader, anyone else using 2.0 and getting this? maybe il just downgrade again
Thanks a lot for this homebrew...
It works on fw 2.60
I take a while to make it works : you need to have two presets on network !!
I'm waiting for the sound
Is it possible to increase FPS?
i was a huge fan of your DJSP and now great job again!
you are one of the most talented people for making homebrew app
now that you have created something for the bathroom use can you create something for the bedroom? i would love to help you get your inspirations, i promise you won't be disappointed.
cool
what exactly are presets?
this has the potential to become the best application for psps ever!!! if sound can be integrated correctly this will indeed surpass pspradio. awesome app...andy fung pleeeeease keep it up. thanks a ton.
Is there any timeline as to when SOUND will be available with this app.. This is a GREAT app! Ive been a 1.5 loyalist but LocationFree TV looked so awesome, i was considering upgrading and shelling out all that money.. but this would be great , Keep up the good work, and please hurry with the SOUND :) THanks !
PLEASE WHERE DO I PUT TVSP% AND TVSP IN THE PSP?? IN THE GAME FOLDER? WHERE? PLEASE HELP, ONE WORD ANSWER THANX ...
please where
sceResolverStar tntoa failed -2143222764:
Just delete and readd your Conection but leave it with the default name: Connection 1...I think. It will work!
Also, It has to be the first in the chain, the program will go to the first on the list.
Lastly it works on 2.5 with GTA.
Good luck everyone.
SoUnCool
Hey! So which laptop card should I buy. http://dscaler.com/card-support/index.htm has the compatible tv cards but I don't know about the laptop ones...please help me! What chip do they need to have!
Hey can someone help me setting this up to use in the office or somewhere else, I have the wap code and I tried but it just stops in the connecting point....the order matters? and do i need to put at least 2 connections?? thnx!!
