After what seemed like a long hiatus, homebrew developer David Rudie came out anew and released an improved version of WiFiController for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The program is based from Mikko Mononen's original controller program for the PSP.

WiFiController for PSP v0.4.3 runs in kernel mode so it should work fine on firmwares 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, and 2.6. Also, David Rudie mentioned that this should also work with CFW 3.x OE-x provided that you use v1.00 of this program for this. Changes since the last release include:

v0.4.3
  • Renamed WiFiController.exe to WiFiServer.exe so it won't be confused for the actual PSP application itself.
  • Added the ability to act as up to 4 separate controllers.
  • Extended the life of some messages by 1 second. (This isn't in the CHANGES file itself.)
WiFiController was coded by v0.4.3 - Image 1v0.4.2
  • Rewrote some functions to clean up code more.
  • Shortened all message displays by 1 second.
v0.4.1 (Never publicly released)
  • Fixed configuration selection menu.
  • Changed invert combo to L+R+SELECT.
  • Renamed SocketTest.exe to WiFiController.exe
v0.4
  • Cleaned up code some more and removed old header files not used anymore.
  • Added ability to select which WLAN configuration to use.
  • L+R+START now inverts analog Y in case some games don't support it.
  • Probably new bugs introduced.
WiFiController v0.4.3 and the GPG signature files can be downloaded directly from David Rudie's personal site (his request) via the Read link below. And to set records straight, for what purposes it may serve, the developer doesn't know Mikko Mononen or the authors of PPJoy.

I am quite displeased with the amount of inaccuracies in this news posting about my release, previous news postings about my release and other peoples news as well.

For starters, Mikko did _not_ write PPJoy. I've mentioned this before. As posted on my site, he wrote the original controller program for the PSP. Something else to take note on my site that further separates the two is under the affiliation notes where I clearly state I do not know Mikko _or_ the authors of PPJoy.

Was posting the previous changes from my changelog really necessary? It's v0.4.3. The changes only relating to v0.4.3 would have been fine.

On top of that, I also asked that they do not mirror the file and link directly to my site instead.

Yes, I'm trying to get this working, but as I posted above you, It doesn't seem to show the connection profile that i need to connect to... it shows other ones I have, but not the one I need.... Its set up on the psp.. but the program doesn't show it... the only thing I can figure, is that theres an issue with it being a WEP encryption... could this be? o and btw what is your site? i'd like to give it a look.

But your site could go down.. backup servers are always nice. The article does need a link to it though

If you are using 3.x OE:

Placing this program under the GAME150 directory will launch under the v1.5 kernel. This will allow unencrypted and WEP support.

My site has been up over a year with zero downtime. They do link to my site at the bottom where it says "Via David Rudie." I would have preferred a direct link to my site and not a mirrored file since it would bring more traffic to my site. The fact that I asked them to not mirror the file and they did is also upsetting. They could have e-mailed me back and discussed possible solutions.

I have never figured that one out. Sometimes you just have to remake the profiles.

# Isn't this the same thing as PSPVNC?Guest 2007-05-11 11:12
I like PSPVNC quite a bit. Runs perfect. I have a webcam running on my home system about 200 miles away and I am able to turn on my PSP and see my house remotely... I think that's pretty cool.

So I have the server running just fine, but I'm having trouble getting it to run in the 3.40 OE kernel. (Using the 1.0 EBOOT) I keep getting 80020148 errors. Any ideas how to solve this?

put it in game150 directory

or go into recovery mode an change homebrew folder option to 1.50 kernel

under 1.50 kernel it should work fine under game directory

# WPA?Guest 2007-05-11 21:42
I know that'd let it run, but what about getting it with the WPA support? +\ That's something I'd really like, since they are advertising it anyway.

First off, thanks for correcting the article and linking to me. I appreciate it.

WPA support should work as long as you use the v1.00 EBOOT and place it in the GAME directory on 3.x OE. This will cause it to run under the 3.x kernel, which has support for WPA. If you place it in the GAME150 folder, it will run under the 1.5 kernel which does not support WPA.

# some problemsGuest 2007-05-12 03:34
@imk

my psp is a 3.40 OE

my router has WPA, I therefore have to use the 3.40 kernel (EBOOT 1.0). However, if I use the GAME340 directory, I have the same error as EdgeKun (80020148). If I put it in the GAME directory, it seems to work, the connection seems to occur as well (4 steps ok, then the application launches), but if I press any button, the Wifi light goes off. No reaction in the "joystick panel" on windows. (I have the server correctly running on windows and my router is correctly set up to allow UDP packets on my pc for ports 20001 to 20004)

any idea ? I know that other applications such as pimpstreamer have problems with WPA on 3.40OE, could this be related ?

@greve: Use a static IP in your Network configuration

# Already said thisGuest 2007-05-12 12:09
That's what I've been saying. I DID put the 1.0 EBOOT in the GAME folder, and it's not even running. It's giving me that error.
