TruFlow v1.0: a Coverflow-like music browser for the PSP *UPDATE* |
Ó
If you're impressed with Apple's Coverflow User Interface (UI) for iTunes, then you can browse through your favorite tunes in the same way on the PlayStation Portable thanks to a new homebrew app from developer Da Merv.
Marking itself as the first version release of the program, TruFlow makes use of the same UI format as the iTunes music browser. To use TruFlow, all you have to do is add your preferred cover art for the song you have stored on your handheld. TruFlow will automatically index your music folder upon running it for the first time.
Anyway, here's a list of the application's controls for easier reference:
- Cross: plays the selected album, select menu item
- Square: stops playing the current song
- Circle: pauses/plays the current song
- Triangle: displays/closes menu
- L/R: play previous/next song
- Left/Right: browse albums one by one
- Analog nub: scrolls through albums
- Up/Down: change selection in menu
As always, please don't forget the read the documentation included in the file bundle for instructions on how to install TruFlow into you PSP.
UPDATE:
Da Merv was recently able to come up with an updated version to the homebrew music browser, bumping up the release to version 1.1. The new build includes a fix for problematic MP3s which tend to crash the program, as well as several other improvements to help error management.
Anyway, here are the details to all the changes made in version 1.1:
- Removed menu system, use R at startup to recache, use select for help, use home to exit
- Added config file to specify music folder
- Problemed mp3s are skipped instead of crashing the program
- Vastly improved error management

This was released last Friday, now the update is available in the same thread. Also, I already have a tag, this tag doesn't link to my other projects. Thanks.
since a computer can add art to a folder make the program read a folder and art if it has it then you open up the art folder on truflow and theres a list of the mp3s withen the folder it just seems kinda pointless to have one coverflow art per song i may be wrong but i think itunes coverflow setups are more like that as well.please make an update to include this option.itd be greatly appreciated.overall nice app
This is not based off of iTunes, I explicitly said this in my thread. This is based off of the original coverflow plugin not owned by Apple. I have heard the demand for multiple files under one album, and I am considering it. Please look out for updates.
since many mp3's have album art built into them, it reads that embedded image instead of us lazy people who don't want to google search additional images for all of our albums? Now that would be cool! Sorry, I'm just to lazy for this to be useful... I'd end up with 20 albums on my memory stick with no album art. Kinda defeats the purpose since the sony mp3 playback (built in) works just as well, otherwise.
I tried it anyways, didn't put any album art in.... It played some cracking high pitched noise when I tried to play the first track, then crashed the psp. So far I'm not impressed, but the graphics are pretty. It also didn't display any titles for anything until I actually tried to play a single song. Would be nice if it said what album I was viewing incase I dont have the album art. But if its going to crash, then, eh......
It does read art from the mp3s. Read the readme first.
look at the screenshots. It does say the album above the cover. I've not seen what you are describing. Contact me in the forums and I may be able to help you, and help me find bugs.
Pls help me, i dowload it but now i dont know where to put the file. I tried in psp
wheres the rest of my txt? i wrote e txt about 6 phrs, -.- | just tell where to put and what to do, ty
I GOT IT NOW (xD) but : ive got no covers, just that cd picture, and i cant see nowhere the name of the track, why? where i have to put the coverpic and how to make that with the trackname=????? pls help
I can't start the app. my error message goes like this "Error: MAIN:370: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value) Press start to restart" pressing start does not restart it, doesnt work at all. I updated the config file accordingly too. what could be the problem?
Thanks for the heads up, I will be looking into what causes this. It does not restart because at that point in the program it is drawing covers which uses the GU.
Put your covers in the same folder as your mp3s with the same name. If your id3 information isn't showing, open your mp3s in a id3 editor and add the information. If you have any more trouble, contact me on the forums.
why are so many songs not being all read? many are skipped. please help
That's good and all but, the difference between you and I is... I'M NOT WEARING HOCKEY PADS.
Cant get this thing to load right. I'm using a 4.01M33-2 Slim PSP. I get that error screen and am then forced to remove the battery. The error goes... Error: MAIN:370: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value) Press start to restart
the dark night!! haha
