They say boredom is an artist's greatest inspiration; When you've got nothing to do, your imagination just kicks into overdrive. And from what it seems, tophead420 had that same spark of inspiration when he told us about his recently developed homebrew app, topsXMBtheme.

As you can see, the app switches the PSP's XMB browser to a vertical theme, very reminiscent of the drop-down toolbars we've seen in Windows. We kind of like this layout - being heavy PC users and all. Make sure to view the bundled README for the full details on how to install the app. We're hoping tophead420 updates this soon. Just imagine the possibilities. Once again, thanks for the app, dude.

by - 2007-02-01 16:13:41
how?

"switches the PSP's XMB browser to a vertical theme" how does it do this? the picture looks fairly normal to me.
by - 2007-02-01 16:16:23
So..

So what's so special in this? =/
by - 2007-02-01 16:19:29
.

Yeah...I'm confused too.
by - 2007-02-01 16:23:02
DUahhh

by - 2007-02-01 16:24:26

the menu looks the same to me just less good looking icons compared to what i have seen, and wats up wit the vertical theme isnt it horizontal?
by - 2007-02-01 16:41:41
white

whenever i try to flash the BG, it comes up as a white screen (i have 3.03 OE-C) is there any way to keep the BG?
by - 2007-02-01 16:46:16
idiots

if ur gonna show a pic of the app, show one that supports ur claim, not some crap that has the same layout as the current menu. the app does look good tho, but i think, from the pic, it still keeps the cross-bar (or t) menu from the original XMB
by Mentality - 2007-02-01 16:46:17
Normal

Yep looks normal here to, what you going on about QJ
by - 2007-02-01 16:47:31
Theme Settings

Go to the Theme Settings and set the theme to the January theme (the one beneath "Original") and it should work.
by - 2007-02-01 16:55:27
Shame

Some articles recently have shown a decline in quality, Vertical is UP, Horizontal is SIDEWAYS. Now that's cleared up, onto my second point...THIS IS NOT AN APP you have to flash everything yourself, it is merely a theme, if it was an app it would flash the theme itself...
by - 2007-02-01 16:56:03
Well...

...This is just another theme pack for the PSP, theres like 1000's of these circulating around at the moment. No biggie just different look for your XMB. QJ you really screwed up on this piece of news its useless unless you put EVERY theme out on the net on the front page :)
by Slasher - 2007-02-01 17:02:36
...

Whoever wrote this article obviously doesn't have a PSP. QJ shouldn't hire clueless bloggers. This is *****ing ridiculous.
by - 2007-02-01 17:08:30
NOT AN APP

wow I thank all of you who like my theme for the rest of you well you are all *****ing stupid. Some of your comments prove you dont know your ass from a whole in the ground. But I thanks all of you who left positive comments and know what the ***** your talking about. AND ALL THIS IS, IS A SIMPLE FLASHABLE THEME NOTHING ELSE
by - 2007-02-01 17:15:51
01-12.bmp

01-12.bmp in this theme pack is broken. The file size is to large and the image at to high a resolution. Heres a link to download the icon set in .rco format: http://www.sendspace.com/file/36ki8b Tested, ugly.
by - 2007-02-01 17:19:13
oh, please.

christ guys, cmon. this isnt an app. its a theme. and on top of that, everything has to be done on your own. yeah, alright, its a theme but does it really need its own article, let alone make the god damn front page? and tophead420, the only person calling this an app is whoever wrote this trash article, we are only calling that out. honestly, qj. wth is with the front page these days?
by - 2007-02-01 17:26:09

Very poor

Its poor and i got a better theme than this
by - 2007-02-01 17:33:12
Cam Down And Read Before You Type

Tophead420, nobody has said your theme is bad, just the article that was written about it, i like your theme, and if it WAS an app then i'd definitely put it on my psp, the only reason i commented on this article is because i downloaded the theme expecting an easy 1 step flash, which this is not. If you want to call somebody "****ing Stupid" then aim your word to the author of this article, nice job on the theme, but the badly written article is giving it a bad name
by - 2007-02-01 18:06:31
hmmm....

screw the icons...where can i get the background? Does it move? Also does anyone know how i can get a regular black bakcground(like the ones for each month)?
by DigiTalDeaD - 2007-02-01 18:08:35
No

@pspdude4life Unlucky, if you'd read the relevent articles on QJ you'd see that 3.10 has only just been decrypted and has no working homebrew exploit yet, furthermore you need an ORIGINAL copy of GTA:LCS, the newer ones don't allow exploits because Rockstar patched them, that is unless you bought a second-hand original copy of the game? If you did it should contain the FW 2.0 update, Even if you did, you'll have to wait till homebrew is on 3.10, which will probably only be a matter of days.
by axelixc - 2007-02-01 18:19:30
stay cool man

1) Extract the DATA.PSP from original 3.03 fw using pbp unpacker. 2) Dump the DATA.PSP using the latest psar dumper. 3) Look 4 the font folder in ms0:>F0 folder. In the font folder copy out the ltn0.pgf to somewhere in yr pc. 4) If u r using 3.03oe-c, activate Toggle USB (flash 0) (ms must be in the psp slot). 5) Put the original ltno.pgf u copied somewhere in yr pc to flash0:>font folder. This will overwrite the crap font u got. 6) If u r using fw other than 3.03oe-c, u hv to use some font flasher application to do it.
by - 2007-02-01 18:43:28
Hmmmmmm

Ye I'd like to apologize for any confusion this caused. I just made the theme a thought I'd share it. I personally dont know where they got the idea its an app. I posted this same thing over at Dcemu with my article in my own words and people love it, Who ever made this article needed to use what I wrote in the forums. Go here for what I wrote: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-mods-media-18/t-topsxmbtheme-93313.html#post1361589 And anyone needing original files dont be lazy and stupid use PSAR dumper to make a dump of 3.03 its not that hard to do. And thanks again to all the positive people commenting and actually understand what this is.
by - 2007-02-01 18:49:25
m5R

i bet i can tell you what the 420 in his name stands for
by - 2007-02-01 18:59:27
hav u been in a hole?

sry if u think im freakin out but umm.. u r so far off i cant begin... first of all, no u can use this becuz u dont hav 3.03 or lower. and u cant downgrade so ur pretty much screwed. and so is ur patched gtalcs umd. and kxploit was for 1.5 a long time ago...
by DigiTalDeaD - 2007-02-01 18:59:36
Woof

Its not your fault tophead420, keep up the good work :-D
by - 2007-02-01 19:32:10
Grrrandpapi

Is there any way someone can send me a dumped 3.03 firmware, or help me out, because I get a white screen when I turn on my psp, so like people said, I need to change the theme, which is on the psp menu, which I cannot look at, because it is a completely whit screen. Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
by - 2007-02-01 19:36:05
ASS

yea, that's me, I'm an ass. I mean I figured it out, I think I just panicked.
by - 2007-02-01 19:48:07
dfhfh

That XMB wave effect is very misleading. I almost thought it was the PS3 wave effect, but it's just the background.
by - 2007-02-01 19:51:37
stuff

tophead420 looks good. i dont think people can understand how the xmb style's diff. just by looking at the pic but i know cuz its on my psp :) love the bg lines. keep up the good work.
by - 2007-02-01 19:54:35
Can someone help me?

What do I do if when I turn on my psp it just turns white, because some people said to change to a different theme setting, but you can't do that in the state that my psp is in. Thanks in advance, hopefully.

by - 2007-02-01 22:01:04
Bricked PSPs

Alright, I don't know if this is happening to everyone but most of my friends have tried this application and found no good results. In fact, it has bricked most of their PSPs or messed up their menu. However, with the help of the new 3.03 OEC-'s Flash 0 feature for recovery via USB, they were able to get their PSPs back to normal. I hope this doesn't happen to you guys when you try this program yet it seems very risky, so please, if you do mess up your XMB/Menu - go here: http://rapidshare.com/files/14498784/Messiah.rar It's for those of you who don't have the flash 0 feature and are unlucky to have a friend nearby with a PSP that has the 3.03 OE-C custom firmware. I'm calling it the Messiah - bit of a stretch, but yeah. Hope it fixes your problems, farewell. P.S: I had hoped that QJ would have actually gotten a bit of info on the people trying this app before actually putting it up here on the front page.
by - 2007-02-01 22:18:15

dang for 3.10

are there any programs for pc that i could use to make a downgrader for 3.10, i would like to try to help out for myself and others. i mean, how hard could it be? or could i try to download a 1.50 update, but instead of saving it as 1.50, if i saved it as like 3.11 or something, then i could have the 1.50 for homebrews. i'll try that and let you know how it worked out. if it does work, this will be great news for me and 3.10 psps everywhere.
by - 2007-02-01 23:10:04
