FreePlay released TIFF Font Hack Installer v0.1 for PSP firmware 2.7-2.80 (2.0, 2.01, 2.5, and 2.6). Originally created by FreePlay, TeamOverload, and Skylark, the font hack enables PSP users to change the fonts on the PSP's home XMB screen. Other things you can play around with: italic, bold, shadow, and other style options for fonts.
FreePlay says its one drawback is that you have to manually edit and fix your registry using some other tools they made. But they are working on ironing out this kink.
To install:
Copy the program to PSPPHOTO on your Memory Stick.
To run the program:
Highlight the 'fonthack' folder from your PSP's Photo menu, then press Start.
To modify your registry:
- Use the parsedreg/fixupdreg package (included in the download file). Extract the ZIP file to your computer.
- Run the Font Hack Installer, and press Cross to copy your registry to your Memory Stick.
- Copy the system.dreg and system.ireg files from your Memory Stick to the parsedreg/fixupdreg folder.
- Open system.dreg (NOT system.ireg) in a hex editor. Replace every instance of "flash0:/font" with "ms0:/fontmod". Save the file.
- Double-click fixupdreg3.exe . It should pop up a window that closes automatically. Your registry should now be fixed, assuming everything went well.
- Copy system.dreg and system.ireg back from the parsedreg/fixupdreg folder to where you found them on your Memory Stick.
- Run the Font Hack Installer again, and press Circle to install your modified registry.
FreePlay also says this app doesn't touch flash0 (only flash1)so there's absolutely no chance of bricking your PSP.

It says there are destroyed Files and i have to repair them...
Maybe we have to try it with other fonts ?
how many times did you find in hex editor of ms0:/font where you had to edit it to ms0:/fontmod?

i cant make custom fonts and if i try a birdman font(from hs fontpack) it also does not work.
after i instal the new registery i press home and the psp reboots. then i got a error and says press O to repair.
then ill go troug that menu.
and i see no new font.
can someone help me?
btw. i hate my 2.80 psp
It didn't work here either (2.80) because after you save the new registry, you reboot and AFTER that it will say the data is corrupt (press O etc. etc.) and then it will restore to defailt settings.
Hope this will be fixed in 0.2 :)
yes your right 20. the psp writes a backup when you press O at corrupt data screen.

i installed everything right , but when i install the font and go back to the home screen it shows my installed font working but then after a second brings me to the blue screen and i have to reset to the default settings and my font is back to the default one. is anyone found a workaround for that problem
If You Get A Blue Screen With Corrupted Data You Have Installed It Wrong
No, you haven't installed it wrong. It's a normal error. This is yet to be fixed.
I followed the directions completely and i used the replace all to find all the flash0:/font entries, i replaced them and i copied the modified reg to the memory stick and ran the program. I'm still getting the blue screen.
thats what happends to me i see the font then the blue screen comes up syaing its corrupted data in different languages including english so i gave up on the idea and now i just downloaded tiff invaders from psp3d.com
it worked after the 10th time...
i placed the fondmod and the system.dreg/ireg also in the psp folder and downloaded WAZZ UP's file...
the only thing is.... it turned arounf my P and X...
uthis site is late every time something new comes up this site is the last one to put it up
it switched around my x and o buttons. THATS NOT COOL!

you know that every program that writes to flash has bugs right? they are normally fixed in about one day. and really it's just a font.

Writing to flash1 has NEVER been blocked.
The ability to change Flahs0's registery has nothing to do with kernal access.

1. TeamOverload didn't do the font exploit, i have confirmation of that from FreePlay and Skylark.
2. Why does TeamOverload have a tag? It's not his application and read #1.

They should have a auto-installer for this.Its way to complicated.

Only thing different on mine was the font, the browser works fine for me (fw 2.80).
There's probably a way to change the browser font back to normal and keep the other custom fonts... but I don't know what it is :s
I have old english font on my 2.80 my model number is 1001 you guys are noobz...
i followed it perfectly and all i got was the blue screen of death

Yes it finnaly works! It's pretty cool, i recommend the GTA font.
1) Download: http://web143.server83.rhs-it.de/FontHack.rar
2) Get the dreg and ireg files in the root
3) get all the files from the fontmod folder in the rar file to the fontmod folder in the root of psp
*) Install the font mod (just place in PHOTO map) if you haven't done allready
5) Launch it, and press O
6) Press home and it'll reboot without the blue screen of death!
7) Now you can choose your own front! In the RAR there is a font pack. Just select a font, and replace it with the one in the fontmod directory on your psp.

Hey i found out that after you have already done everything im mean editing the files and such then when you go to install new fonts after you have already have done one then you can just take a font out of birdmans pack and draf the fontmod folder in and then say yes to all when it asks you to replace all you dont even have to go back into the tiff font hacker you can just disconnect from usb mod and turn off your psp and when you turn it back on it will have the new font installed hope this saved people from the frezze.

if you want to go back to normal font just take your memory card and umd out and hold the power button for 5 seconds then turn back on and it should take you to the blue screen of death and if u still kept ur system.dreg and system.ireg you can do font hack over and over
I changed my font 2 days before this game out, now i don't feel as special with my disko font :[, o well it's always nice for people who upgraded for some customization
i basicly have it working, but i dont know where to put the fonts. and with my current config, it starts working, than restarts my psp and this blue screen apears with all this writing and says i have to reset the settings and just brings it back to the start. someone help, id ask at the chat rooms but i got banned for asking for too much help.

Since I hear it swaps X-O if you have EU/USA version, someone might be able to figure out to do the reverse (I have a jap-version ta-82 fw 2.6 with x-o swapped which I would really like to swap back to normal/EU configuration :) ).

I got it to work after 3 hours.. bealive it or not! O.O but i figured out that in the "FontHach.rar" folder there sould be a folder named "Fontmod for the root odirectory" get all those 18 files and make a folder in the root of your psp (f:/fontmod) should be like that. Put the 18 files into the folder then get a FONT u like and in the "Birdamns fontpack", the file should be named (ltn0.pgf). And put it in the fontmod folder then it will ask u if u want to replace it, press YES. There should be 18 files now. And do all the rest that is stated on this site... Hope this helps it worked for me!

that would be impossible to brick your psp.
the only way to brick your psp is to write to flash0.(aka kernel mode)

Ummm where the heck is the /fontmod folder.. cause i looked everywhere and i dont see anything named that.. sorry if i sound stupid but uhhhh.. im new at this kinda and dont really have any idea what im doing.. i followed everything else right, but idk where that folder is to put fonts in and stuff
This f***s up your browser(ex.When typing a web address..it freezes up the psp/Web portals dont display right)
Meh, not like i use it much anyway but if you do, I wouldnt recommend this unless you want to load your psp w/o the mem stick all the time since the font loads from there.Another thing is it resets all your settings so you'll have to enable the flash player/wma again and correct the time ect .Still, this makes your psp look pimp as hell lol

THE REASON THAT THE ERROR SCREEN COMES UP IS THAT YOU ONLY PUT THE FOLDER CALLED "FONTMOD" WITH ONLY THE ONE FILE IN IT.....GET BIRDMANS FONT PACK AND COPY IN THE FOLDER "FONTMOD" WITH A BUNCH OF FILES INSIDE THEN COPY THE .PGF FONT INTO IT AND SAY YES TO REPLACE.................THIS IS HOW I GOT IT TO WORK, AND IT WAS AS EASY AS THAT

IT WORKS ALLS YOU HAVE TO DO AFTER YOU COPY THE FILES USEING FILLASST YOU TURN OFF YOUR PSP POP OUT THE MEMORY CARD. TURN IT BACK ON THE REPAIR SCREEN WILL POP UP TURN OFF THE PSP. PUT THE MEMORY CARD BACK IN TURN IT BACK ON AND YOUR CUSTOM FONT SHOULD BE ADDED. YOUR PSP 2.80 WONT KNOW THE DIFFRENCE. THIS APP DOESNT TOUCH FLASH0! AT ALL IT DOES TOUCH FLASH 1 SO IT WONT BRICK YOUR PSP. IT CHANGES THE SYSTEM system.dreg AND system.ireg INTO A NEW ONE THAT TELLS THE PSP TO LOOK FOR THE FONT IN THE FONTMOD FOLDER.
