FileAssistant v0.05

One of the must-have pieces of homebrew, FileAssistant, has been ported to the TIFF Exploit by Freeplay. Although it's one of the older versions (v0.05), this was the only version whose source FreePlay could find. The original version was coded by Lin J.R, in case anyone's curious.

While not being as slick and shiny as the newer versions, it did the job, and wow! While talking to FreePlay, he revealed that the speed of this version is amazing. He actually had to slow down the dialogs, just to make them readable. Here's a few more screenshots in case you want to check out the GUI

This version allows you to write to Flash1 only. Looking at all the homebrew being released for the TIFF exploit, expect to see more ports and scratch-made homebrew in the coming days. For now, enjoy this latest homebrew.

Update: Just a few hours after the release of the first public build, FreePlay has told me that he has updated FileAssistant. Turns out, he's correct. The new version allows you to browse your UMDs and he has also got the battery meter working. Plus, while talking to him, he also revealed that he has polished the dialogs since they were a bit problematic. To download, check out the link below.

The colors in the screenshots aren't the real colors. Taking screenshots from FileAssistant is... bizarre.

And this works for?

2.70-2.80?

Sorry i'm just curious because usually qj.net state these things in thier news.

» Compatibility

Tested (as far as I know) on 2.71 and 2.80 so far. Works on 2.71 in Devhook. Also works on Epsilon, which apparently has a few glitches - e.g. pressing Home crashes the PSP rather than exiting the program.

as someone who has released stuff myself that may be used from a linux box, I always use .zip for public consumption

this is a real breakthrough for the TA-082 owners out there..

its really useful if u use it correctly

by nicko01 - 2006-09-18 10:26
» file unzipper

we need a file unzip utility! thats what i really need.

then i could download a new tiff homebrew, unzip it, and move the files to the right place, instead of doing it all on the computer.

by impressed - 2006-09-18 10:46
» cool, but...

how do you know which file will copy where? first time it was right to left, last time it was left to right, overwriting the file i wanted to copy.... doh! help....

» Well done

This is just what I needed for my PSP when my laptop isnt around. Works pretty well.

by some guy - 2006-09-18 11:20
» It doesnt work for me

I try to use it like all the other 2.80 homebrew and it doesn't work for some reason it just stays frozen or somethin in the part where you just bearly press X on the file Assistant and there thats where it freezes it doesnt even run the program

by cheese - 2006-09-18 11:29

» AWESOME

by Kazart - 2006-09-18 11:51
» I agree with 26

I came to the post to write the same thing, but it was already there. it would be cool if it could unzip.

does anybody know hpw this thing works, theres two screens, when i alter a name of something the change is only noticible on the computer when i have connected psp

by reptie7 - 2006-09-18 13:02
» Problem

I been experamenting with problems with tiff files.Heres what i got:

If you run a umd then a tiff game the tiff will freeze but if you don't it won't so if you play a umd then play tiff it will freeze after that it will probaly Never freeze unless you play another umd.

by Joe - 2006-09-18 13:32
» cool

this is great and all and i apreciate all the work that went in to it, but i agree, we need some emulators, we've seen the power of this exploit and it seem to be able to handle alot. this thing isnt all that usefull, i mean it can be if you dont want to go to your pc or if you cant.

all in all its a great app, not something id use though. and good luck to the devs on making or porting some emus.

by no - 2006-09-18 14:05

im on 2.8 by the way.

anyone else have this issue?

by 2.80er - 2006-09-18 19:29
» #46

Both .5 & .6 works on my. I even dump 1 UMD to MS without any problem on .6. I am also on 2.80.

by crazymunch - 2006-09-18 21:27
» Works Fine

I'm on 2.8 and It works perfectly, just like all the other 2.8 Homebrew. FYI, I launch them all by pressing Triangle -> Slideshow, as this is the most stable way to do it.

My Question is, seeing as you can read and write from Flash1, can you do your own custom FontHack, so instead of editing the registry, you just put your own files in using this, so it's your default font in the Flash1 instead of on your MS?

Just wondering, too chicken to try it. I know it wont brick, but I just got my PSP the way I like all the settings and dont want to risk having to re-write Flash1

by crazymunch - 2006-09-18 21:39
» Ok, Suggestion

Ok, I just realized Fonts are stored in Flash0.

Soo... WHy not make a font hack that stores the fonts in

Flash1 and directs the registry there?

That way, changing MS would not screw up your font.

Just a thought, I don't know enough about HB to do it, but it would work, right?

» 2.6 kernel for ta-1082

anyone heard on any progress for kernel access for these crippled psp users? running a 2.6 on a ta-082 sp the TIFF exploit is my only hope of loading isos...

by FreePlay - 2006-09-19 00:12
» #49

That was my original plan, but I wanted to get this out there first so that copying modded fonts to flash1 would be really easy :)

by crazymunch - 2006-09-19 01:01
» Sweet

Well I'm trying to make it work, but currently it just keps re-writing my Flash1

I'll post a full file if i get it working

by alex - 2006-09-19 02:09
» bad work

The psp always freezes when you start the application. The TIFF based homebrew is useless anyway. When you have more than one game or app on your stick you cannot choose between them because the thing starts immediately while hovering over.

organize the tiff homebrew files into seperate folders in the psp/photo folder that way you can choose wich one to use!!!

» so?

can this brick my psp?

by EvilMonkey - 2006-09-19 04:19

No it can't brick you psp #57. It has only FLASH1 acces, no FLASH0.

This homebrew is awesome, it is exactly like having a "Windows Explorer" for your PSP. :)

BTW, the .06 version didn't work for me the first time, but in the second try it worked like a charm.

by jamaica0535 - 2006-09-19 06:17
» unstable?

am i the only one thats having issues with this being stable... i mean i got to a white screen with the loadign ripple, and my memory stick got acseces, but thats as far as its come for me. all the oother times it just crashes.... and my psp turns off...

» Works Fine on 2.8

Just wanted to say it works fine on my 2.8... i have a good feeling that if a 2.8 downgrader ever comes out it will work on my psp... everything else that uses tiff does... fonthack, all games and this... perfect well done FreePlay, alos just wanted to say both work on mine.

by peacedood - 2006-09-19 07:20
» when is the eloader coming out

some1 should make a mario bros. tiff game

by alex - 2006-09-19 10:17
» nonsense

the app doesn't work with my psp and not with 3 of my friends psp's. Nobody can tell me that it works.

>organize the tiff homebrew files into seperate folders in the psp/photo folder that way you can choose wich one to use!!!

I already did this. But the app starts immediately when you hover over a folder. You have absolutely no chance to scroll down more than 3 or 4 items without opening one automatically.

If this writes to the flash so easly then why is it so hard to make a downgrader for 2.80???

by cheese - 2006-09-19 12:01
»

doesnt write to the flash that allows downgrade. thats why this 'supposedly' wont brick psp

by anoob - 2006-09-19 12:45

some 1 should make a tiff version of super mario bros.

by Hook - 2006-09-21 01:30
» used to work, now doesn't

How odd. It worked fine for a few days, but then I changed my font with FreePlay's fonthack (which works great, BTW) and now I can't get the FileAssistant to work. it freezes my PSP every time. I even reinstalled it and it still freezes.
