FlashplayerPSPHacks.net has teamed up with RK Digital.net, Heavy.com Newgrounds.com and 71M to put out SWFPlayer v1.1. SWFPlayer v1.1 currently runs on v1.5 firmware, and is being tested for compatiblity on 2.x. Currently the player is a little buggy when playing flash files that use MP3 sound due to the fact that MP3 decoding requires too much memory, however PCM sound is fully supported, and hopefully the MP3 issues will be sorted out soon.

Another issue that is being worked on is loading times. As a ?proof of concept? release, there are plenty of fixes currently being worked on, an the source will be released in a couple days, once it is cleaned up. The source will be released in the hopes of involving more developers in code cleanup and bug fixes

For installation of the PSP Flash Player, simply decompress the file into your x:PSPGAME folder. After that, you can place the flash files anywhere on your memory stick. The SWFPlayer comes with an included file browser to allow you to locate the flash files, after which you simply highlight it and press X.

i tried out a flash movie on my v 1.5 psp but it didn't work!! :( it just froze my psp!!

Thinking it might be just attachMovie that didn't work I tried out a flash game I made for mobiles using a very limited set of commands but that also didn't work :(

whoa, this thing has great potential! Take that Sony, I bet this flash player will become better than anything Sony can add into their browser.
by - 2006-02-28 00:37:00

Agreed, the potential for this is huge :) We'll be able to make decent games in a couple of days :D

Here is a 2 player Mario battle game I made using Flash, I'd love to get this working on psp.

just to try, im gonna see if you can load web pages through this, because if you can, someone could create a web browser!
by - 2006-02-28 00:50:00

I tried my Foamy library and no such luck. I had everything frome freezes, auto power off, and eventually a full load of a flash smaller than 500kb, but wouldn't play when I tried to cleck "Play" (the Attach Movie thing?).

Thank you PSPHacks.net and 71M for this first bold effort. I eagerly await the next development phase.

GiBBz,
You wanna give homebrew developers **** for putting out first releases that don't work properly yet? That's cool with me, but you have to be in the right position to do it. Do you you code homebrew to share with the community? I HIGHLY doubt it. If you do code, I can still guarantee that you've never had a perfect first release. No one does.
All of the leaches and bottom-feeders here need to be put in their place. Writing programs for PSP is much more difficult than most people think. If you want to whine and complain about how some homebrew doesn't work like you want it to, either pass on some constructive criticism, or GO MAKE YOUR OWN HOMEBREW!
Long story short, vommiting your "opinion" into the comments like that doesn't help anyone and makes other people more reluctant to start coding homebrew themselves.

71M,
While there is no shortage of bugs in your flashplayer right now it's a wonderful start with much promise. I look forward to seeing the source soon.

APPARENTLY SOME OF YOU CAN'T READ -

Key mapping is in the XML file.

Debugging was left on in this release by accident. That increases load times 10X.

very cool!
this will increase the number of games in the homebrew world to new levels!

awsome [: Flash games on PSP : D
by - 2006-02-28 07:48:00

awesome job 71M ... congrats on the contest :) Now get back to work on FileAssistant!
by - 2006-02-28 07:49:00

Good news!
If they release the source it would be a great step forward for Eclips!
by - 2006-02-28 08:09:00

one problem i've thought of is the keyboard requirements of flash aren't met by psp...
key remapping an option?
by - 2006-02-28 08:25:00

Does this support ActionScript or is it just time line animations? I've looked for a readme but can't find one.
by - 2006-02-28 08:36:00

This is huge. Im surprized this isn't getting more comments.
by - 2006-02-28 08:39:00

"The current version supports most action script through version 7 and runs on 1.5 only....."
That's what said psphacks.net (the source of this news)

i really want to play that katamari flash game i saw on transbudha
by - 2006-02-28 08:59:00

by the way: in the filemanager, in the left-bottom corner, it says "V1.0" not 1.1 like the news and the rar-archive said... just wondering....
by - 2006-02-28 09:05:00

Tried a few flashes that took forever to load and none of them were working. Then again I've got a firmware 1.0 machine and have had problems with File Assistant ++ (exiting it) and it seems to be using that as its file browser.

Here's hoping this will be worked on a lot :)
by - 2006-02-28 09:10:00

Fails to load on 2.6 :(
by - 2006-02-28 09:47:00

katamari? lol weird ass stuff...

I'm sure they will have a script to sync buttons to the buttons on a keyboard someday.

Untill then it will be cool to have some of my funny ass flash joke collectiion on my psp.

Lol poor 2.+ upgraders, shoulda waited!
by - 2006-02-28 09:48:00

EVERY button on the PSP is fully remappable to ANY keyboard button via the included XML file.

Debugging was left on in this build which is why the load times are slow. Expect and update very shortly

this is so exciting. great job guys!!!
by - 2006-02-28 11:09:00

Great but i have not enough space on my card to try it im saving some money for a new one
by - 2006-02-28 11:51:00

From what I can see this doesn't support attachMovie so none of my games work :(
by - 2006-02-28 16:46:00

thats one small step for psp programers and one huge step for homebrew :)
by - 2006-02-28 17:14:00

Anybody figured out how to use the mouse to actually press a button yet? I don't see the point of having the mouse left in if it can't press. It looks like it presses when hitting X but does nothing. Also, does anyone know of any dev forums for this project?
by - 2006-02-28 17:37:00

Are there any Flash files that actually work with this program as of now?
by - 2006-02-28 20:55:00

Maybe i'm just lucky? I got Gun Run to boot up (Can't play because of the mouse problems...) and 90% of Secret of Mana theater work on this. I could not get any file larger then 1.5mb to run. Sadly, no Nightmare City or Decline as of yet. Hopefully a patched version comes out REALLY soon...

Theres no sound. No MP3 function is a major loss. However, the player is MUCH better then I thought it would be.

I think I infact made a thread talking about this back in the begainning of feb. (Now I understand why that guy said I was stupid! Theres ONLY 28 Days in February! I forgots ><)
by - 2006-02-28 21:21:00

NICE- I got a few flash games to load properly but just cant play them due to no buttons being recognized! A configurable button setting will probably be next and will most likely detroy and vestiges of sociability left in me.
by - 2006-02-28 21:48:00

I got some old classics to run (without sound, sadly): peanut butter jelly time, wheeee, and mario twins. badger badger crashes =( (albinoblacksheep.com has em)
by - 2006-02-28 22:47:00

all i can say is.... phucking crap
sure it a flash player but does it actually work? well i tried all my flash rips, after waiting a rediculous amount of time to load a 500k file it simply crashed within 3seconds, and to think he actually won $2000 american for this piece of crap.

u cant honestly expect me to praise the most useless homebrew yet, get real people or do u want "wow this is great can i toss your salad?" if its crap ill say what i feel, opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one.
by - 2006-02-28 23:02:00

GiBBz - as with most homebrew the first releases are (as you say) "crap".
Im sure that with further releases and bug fixes, loading time and capabilities (etc) will be improved. People are not saying "wow this is great can i toss your salad" because of what it can do at this moment, THEY just realise that this is a first step, and a big one at that.

good job, cant wait until its running smoother
