Slasher's MP3 Plugin

Slasher has updated his MP3 plugin for 1.5 PSPs today, bringing it up to version 3. Slasher's MP3 plugin is basically a custom firmware, as it allows you to play MP3 files from your PSPs memory stick using Dark_Alex's original P.O.C. Custom Firmware that was released a while ago. This plugin will currently play 200 tracks that are stored into the PSP/MUSIC folder of your memory stick whilst in the PSPs XMB. Here's the full feature list:

- You can change the CPU speed if you wish to get rid of any lag you may experience.
- The song display is now more consistent.
- Easy to remap the button control.

New for this version
- Now every button is configurable. Alot of people were wanting that - so here it is ;)
- Added a new display mode option.
    - Mode A = Show song title briefly after changing song.
    - Mode B = Show song title always.
    - Mode C = Show nothing...ever.
- Added an option if you want your music to auto-start playing.
- Bumped the maximum number of songs up to 200

This application has been tested by Slasher and no random crashes have occurred; however, if your PSP does crash after a lengthy MP3-playing session, just restart your PSP and it should be good to go. There are a few bugs with this plugin, so please read the known bugs list before complaining that this 'doesn't work' or something of the sort:
  • Make sure to stop (or pause) your current song before loading up a homebrew or UMD, else crashes.
  • When exiting out of USB mode, music may mess up. Just switch the current song(or pause it) to fix that.
  • When using this with any USB Activating-related plugins, It may cause this plugin(along with the others) to not work. Please remove all USB-related plugins for this module to work. (Attempting to fix this)
  • This won't work in devhook. I'm trying to fix this - so sit tight :)
For installation instructions, read the readme which can be found on the download page or in the zip archive. Remember, there is a workaround present for the 200 song limit of this plugin - Don't have over 200 songs at a time in the PSP/MUSIC folder. Thanks for the tip Slasher!

As I was about to say...

Kyle M. A couple things you should edit, - \"but remember as this is in the flash memory\" ~ This is just a custom firmware module plugin ;) it\'s located on your memstick. - \"meaning you can listen to your music and do other things like browsing qj.net on your PSP at the same time!\" ~ this is for 1.5 only, there\'s no browser for 1.5 :P this is mainly meant to view photos and listen to music...or watch videos...or do whatever. That\'s why I said I was working on getting this working with devhook, so people can browse the web while using it. :D Thanks!

casual

can u use this with casual custom firmware?
by - 2006-08-10 15:49:58
.

slasher, would it be possible to actually integrate this plugin into the xmb's music player? If you start a song from the xmb it would be really useful if you could control it using your plugin. Just something to work on for the next version. Thanks a whole lot!
by Slasher - 2006-08-10 16:12:22
@Fatvod

Yes, you can use it with any custom firmware. Just follow the install instructions in the readme.
by Slasher - 2006-08-10 16:15:10
@ford

Nope. That's nearly impossible to do, way beyond my knowledge.

okay, got it werking, just make sure that you have no subfolders in ur music deirectory. then install a custom firmware, , put this on the root and cold reboot(10secs up on power button) when you come back online it should werk, it did for me. cheers. oh and in ur next release is there any way to get the song title not to flash so much? This is great man, oh remote support would be wicked good too. Cheers on a nice mod!!!!
by Slasher - 2006-08-10 18:43:05
...

OGG is deffinitely a possibility. I'm working on getting it to read music files in all the sub-directories too. Just so it's not limited to the PSP/MUSIC folder. I can try to get the song title to be more consistant but it's pretty tough. I optimized it best I could, and that's what I came up with. I'll have another go, maybe I can perfect it :D Thanks for the comments. (minus the odd idiot that posts in here) PS - To anyone reading some of the comments. This is NOT a bricker. Doesn't even touch the flash :/
by senjutsu - 2006-08-10 19:19:29
useless

anyway I play my music in mp3 format and the psp reads it so why should I bother with something that can even lag? and if you boost the clock speed to run this you'll have less music listening time... ps: the psp is perfect with darkalex and the devhook mod emulating v 2.71 =D ( almost perfect, only lack emulated v2.8 lol but it's not important till games with 2.8 firmware flasher pop... )
by - 2006-08-10 19:20:29
devhook?

any chance of something like this working for devhook??? I like to listen to music while browsing photo's, but it's too slow in 1.5!!!! Plus 1.5 has a habit of sorting my photo's in a weird way, lack of support for other formats etc.
by - 2006-08-10 19:20:41
.

slasher for help getting it to stay, you should contact....um whatshisname... jas0nuk with the http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=59187 he has gotten cpu information to stay written to the psp's screen, like devhook. Isn't it the same thing with music?

@senjetsu

So just because you think it lags a little too much for your tastes (even though I'm yet to experience any amount of lag that would be considered uncomfortable), you go ahead and call it 'useless'? Thanks alot. Makes me want to continue contributing.
by - 2006-08-10 20:17:06
dont listen to senjetsu

I don't think he gets the concept of this program. Everybody who does appreciates what you have done.
by DrNicket - 2006-08-10 20:27:57
My compliments.

Good stuff Slasher. Keep it up. I look forward to a DevHook compatible version, as I'm too paranoid to flash my PSP without something like a U.P. chip.
by Shlongaconda - 2006-08-10 20:46:12
????

can you still listen to music while playin homebrew at the same time?? because i have it playin in the XMB menu then i pause it, then launch the homebrew but it wont start the mp3 no more maybe i go to change the control configuration
by - 2006-08-10 23:16:04
*****in' A

I apreciate your contributions Slasher! You are the only one thus far who has provided any alternative to sony's 'limited' music player. Keep up the good work man, I am a faithful user and am enjoying the ability to re-map the buttons. Looking forward to future releases!
by - 2006-08-10 23:27:24
Slasher, please reply to this!!!

Hi Slasher. I am writing this message HERE because I don't know your e-mail address, or any other way of contacting you. I installed this plugin, and it worked great. However, my bootsound has now stopped working ever since I installed you plugin. I am using Mode A, and no auto startup. Also, when I use the L and R buttons to change songs, they don't go in order, and some songs get skipped. I have to cycle around a more than once to get to a song that I was looking for.
by - 2006-08-10 23:27:33
font

i really want that font. Does anyone have it?
by - 2006-08-10 23:34:16
lol

the psp can already play mp3's..
by - 2006-08-10 23:42:06
Kernel?

Can this plugin keep MP3s playing while using a kernel-mode homebrew such as DAXZ ISO Loader? The other plugins I've tried worked fine with most homebrew but couldn't keep playing the music if I loaded an ISO.
by - 2006-08-11 02:49:17
ISO loader

@35 yes you can. Load the iso first, then press home and go back to the XMB. Now load IRshell and play ur music and then launch the loaded-iso within IRshell

Has anyone noticed...

Has anyone noticed that the screenshot provided seems a bit different. I've been searching for a while fo a black background such as the one displayed above. I thought at first it was a black and white screenshot, but the text, "Memory Stick", is yellow. I would like to know where to get this background, and how to make the "wavy-line" effect still work, as it looks like it's working on the screenshot.

@39, shut the hell up lol moron! You obviously don't know what this app does so stfu!
by Slasher - 2006-08-11 08:05:07
This is gonna take a while...

@30 No. This is restricted to the XMB only. Perhaps I could remap sceKernelLoadExec to include some sort of loading module command, so it keeps the mp3 prx in memory. @32 I'm not sure. Your problem must be a special case. Everything seems to be in order on my side of things. @33 It's just the regular XMB font...I think :O @34 Have a gander at the bloody readme. "This plugin will allow you to listen to mp3s in the XMB! Well, if you're sitting there wondering "We can already do that!? wtf!?". This allows you to listen to mp3s ANYWHERE in the XMB; While watching a video, while viewing images, while changing settings, etc. The regular XMB mp3 player was restricted to the music section only." @35 Every plugin ever released for the custom firmware has been restricted to the XMB only. When sceKernelLoadExec is called, all the module get unloaded. @37 The text isn't actually yellow, I guess it just appears that way with the screenshot shrunken a little, and the contrast of colours in the background. Here's the background if you're interested. http://www.sendspace.com/file/o9o5yb (You must flash it directly to the psps flash if you want the wavy line effect to stay intact) @38 :P @39 Do you honestly have anything better to do? How about ***** off, you *****in pansy?

You are a bunch of..

Arguing over here and calling someone in numbers are really what *****ing retards do.

BackGround

Anyone know how he got the black background in the picture? Is that colour on European PSP's? Or is it just some background that somebody made? Help me out. I've been dying to have the PSP Theme background in black.

Well it plays my mp3's, and I can come out of the music player and wander round the menu's (XMB) but can't look at photo's or anything without music switching off, if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong give us a clue. All I want to do is set a slideshow to music!
