pspWxp Encore v4 Beta 1 |
Ó
It must be the week for portal releases, as there's another one on the loose. After mentioning the release of DarkPortal and Pro-Messenger, Hunter Onhika sent in a tip about a rebuild of pspWxp, known as Encore.
According to the pspWxp forums, pspWxp Encore v4 is the first beta out for the portal. They don't intend to offer a release date till they know how long it'll take, but until then, you can enjoy this portal. They also mention that the interface currently uses the Linux-based K Desktop Environment, and will feature additional themes later on.
As for functionality, their progress is currently at 40 percent, so expect bugs here and there. Still, their readme is very instructive, featuring installation instructions and some troubleshooting tips. In any case, here's the full changelog they've posted on their forums. Give it a try, and let them know what you think. Enjoy!

Wicked Sweet, I dig where this is going. I'll post back when I've tested it.
Really buggy indeed... yet i'm impressed. It will turn into a fine app if the auther continues his work, I see it heading in a great direction. Not much worked in the app but still looks like a great start. I tested all the stuff in the app, only a few things worked with a whole list of other stuff that didn't work at all, like the Net Browser. Hopefully this can move out or portal stage into homebrew & even EBoot in the future. Keep up the great work and hope to see more of this app in the future.
is that really some form of Firefox? i see you said it does not work, but did he mention anywhere if it is Firefox or if it's just a shortcut to the original browser? cause Firefox on PSP could mean no more low memory problem
it is not firefox its basically an iframe im a dev for this site but it HELPS with errors
There is already a psp homebrew browser that helps with the low memory problem. I havn't gotten the error message when browsing. Back on point: this is a cool looking portal. I messed around with the pspWxp portal and edited it. But mine isn't linux, its just more realistic than the origional windows portal.
Is this an Operating System? Is it like Linux for the PS3 where you can put emulators and stuff on it?
Firefox is an amazing browser... on a PC. It would take up way too much RAM on the PSP; the official browser that was designed with the PSP in mind and more limited browsers such as Links work well, but Firefox would just couldn't run efficiently with such little memory.
not at all no where near an OS its simply something running within the PSP's browser it cannot load any file other than the ones supported by the PSP browser but it is a nice looking ap and i hope to see more releases
i can install i'm will help
do games work on it?
Ive hacked it. But i cannot get my custom start sound working.
