PSPlayerMT For PSP - Direct AVI Player Works On All the PSP

Today, another homebrew player has revealed itself on the internet. I'm now acting very calm, but in fact I'm starting to boil inside! Read the following text and join the boil with me! =D

PSPlayerMT is a homebrew audio/video player for the PSP, which is capable of playing AVI videos with resolution up to 480* This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it fps without lags. Yay! No more transcoding! The GUI is currently very simple, but the performance is so great.

The name of the author may be kkman (nugi2222).

UPDATE: Boys over at CNGBA has confirmed that this player also works on 2.00+ PSP! Upgraded users, download the eLoader and join the wonderful homebrew scene now! =D

Here are some more details from the readme:

It supports the following extensions and formats:
  • Video: AVI, MOV, MP4, OGM, MKV, NUT, ASF, WMV. Audio: MP3, M4A, WMA, OGG, WAV.
  • MPEG1/2/4 video(DivX, XviD), Windows Media Video, Ogg theora, Mpeg audio (MP2, MP3, AAC), AC3, OGG, Windows Media Audio
How to use the program:
  • Left Shoulder  - Start from beginning
  • Right Shoulder - Go to Menu
  • Circle - Select the file
  • Triangle - Zoom
  • Square - Displays info
  • Home - Quit
  • D-pad Left - Rewind
  • D-pad Right - Fast forward
Download: [Removed]

According to the wish of the author, the download link from our website has been removed. But you can still find the original download over [Here]. Look for the "PSPlayerMT-20060121.zip (1.12 MB)" text with a diskette icon in the "pire" field of the table (Yea, that's the way how Korean people read "file" ;-)). It should be easy to spot.

» Well...

Technically, it's a beta, and the formats they list are really just what they *expect* to work eventually. So far I've managed to get Xvid, WMV, and MPEG video working. Haven't tried OGM or MKV.

but you have to make the resolution 480*272??

Do i need to make a folder where i place my video?

no you dont need to make a special folder...

wel i tried to play a avi file.....but its very slow!!!!! so there are lags

by Jeff Chen - 2006-03-16 05:08
» Some hints

It seems you cannot play videos larger than 480*272 on it. And videos in very high bitrate may still be laggy. Maybe 23fps is recommended.

works for me, u just have to resize the resolution.

prefer this then pmp, its alot easier !

by mhawk134 - 2006-03-16 05:32
» this is great

I'm glad that there is a real avi/xvid/divx player out now. I mean come on pmp was rediculous. whats the point if you have to convert it anyway. Why not just go for the mpeg form. yeah maybe a little bigger but, still, alot easier then having to comvert to pmp, then load to psp the start up the player then play it. when you could convert to mpeg copy yo psp then play with the psp menu. this one you copy to psp then load the player then play it. Either way these two both have fewer steps then pmp.

» Nice to see that you agree.

Your right 7 seconds is a long time. Most of the vids that I would watch will be smaller then 420 by what ever. I just want to watch my cvs cam vids on the psp, y would I transcode a movie to watch on the psp when I can just watch it on the tv? Makes no sence to me.

» good stuff...but...

This is good news, but yeah, until something can decode higher-res videos and downscale them its not much use...Who has 480x272 sized videos anyway? Most of mine would be 640x272 or 640x352, 512x384 etc. (or higher).

Since I still have to open the MKV/AVI/OGM/whatever in VirtualDubMod, resize, and re-encode, its no different than encoding straight to MP4/AVC/PMP/whatever except that I'm more familiar than XviD and could manage a good encode in my sleep.

Author's comment:

Dont upload this software other than ruliweb at any case.

by matts1900 - 2006-03-16 12:55
» At long last :)

I'm liking this a lot, although alot of my content is above 480x272, however I can just encode at 480x272 next time I backup a DVD, and as evilgrug said, achieving a good encode is a piece of piss using divx/xvid. For the stuff that is within that res already, its a damn site better than converting everything, drag & drop is much more convenient for obvious reasons. Also it seems only to work with avi's so far for me (on 1.5), and I've tried avi, mov and wmv.

Although downscaling would be nice, subtitles (.SRTs specifically) would be better :)

by kardiss - 2006-03-16 13:10
» The author will stop developing this application.

I'm a Korean and actually I've been enjoying this program for more than 3 months now.

However, the author specifically requested that this SHOULD NOT be uploaded any where other than ruliweb.com (Korean videogaming community). In any case if it was uploaded other than ruliweb, he said he will cease to give any more updates on this program. Well, partly good news for you guys but bad news overall. BTW, if configured and encoded correctly, it can play most avis and xvids at full speed with excellent playback quality.

» Whats this???!

WHO THE Hell uploaded this here!!?

Have you even asked the developer? not that he would let you upload it even if you asked him. and yes, the developer is korean, and had been (although not known why) boldly stating since he started the developement of PSPlayer ,which is some months back, that he prohibits uploading of any version of the PSPlayer to foreign sites(that is, at any condition), and Korean sites(if not permited by him). Maybe its just me not being informed, but if that is not the case I advise you reconsider and contact the developer.

unfortunately I do not know his contact, nor if he is comfortable with english. As a korean, I could ,if needed, help by translating.

by ~420~ - 2006-03-16 15:03
» Good Start

Yea i agree this isn't the best player out there and it does have some problems playing videos but its its got promise. Its good for transfering movie clips in a hurry instead of having to wait for them to be encoded. Can't wait for the next update. Would like to be able to play a clip where i left off. Good program good potential.

by The_Cradle - 2006-03-16 15:30
» About the hb itself

seeing how pmp doesnt work for 2.0 and above, I have no doubt that it IS the best player for 2.0+, though it needs to be incoded to the appropriate size by other programs, which isnt so hard of a task.

That is the page, and from the google translator it seems "kkman" is the author. Hopefully someone who reads the language can verify this.

Also, i do not believe that linking directly to their .zip is what the author asked. I think he wants the actually page linked to so that people can comment and see his comments also.

Trust me. They read the word like "pire". "p- I - r:.

I've localized 2 Korean MMORPGs before and learnt how to pronounce those symbols finally ;)

yes they pronounce it to something that sounds like file with a P instead of an F but its still no pire on that site but pair/pail

Its really "pair" or "pail"

if it was "pire" it would be written like this:

» Strange thing all this

If it is the strong wish of the author not to upload this anywhere else than on "ruliweb" , it should be respected of course. But as this player now was presented here on pspupdates it got and will even get more famous all over the world and there will always be some idiots uploading this anywhere else, this can´t be prevented, it´s normal with such a lot of users.

In the end the success of the player is the author´s glory and if he would stop now just because some people post this anywhere else (accidently) he would act a little bit ---- strange and not to his own edge.

Of course it would be great if Jonny and this stranger would cooperate. But no matter, Jonny will improve his player for sure. So whatever.

I really dont know what all you guys are complaining about. I encoded a 93min avi at about 900kbps (video) and an audio bit rate of 96kbps. It ran 29 fps very smoothly for the whole movie. Dont complain that it skips frames and freezes if your playing a movie thats oversized (480x272+) and is at 2000kbps. Seriously, thats just stupid.

PS. For all you idiots out there who dont know how to encode an AVI, use this http://divx.ppccool.com/ (PocketDDIVXEnc oder)--->its free, and it works really well.
