Listen up, fellow beat-nicks! PSPUpdates is proud to bring you this exclusive release of what will hopefully be many official soundpacks for PSPKick! Volume 1 will introduce you to a collection of soundpacks from a well seasoned hip-hop producer named Diallo. Diallo put together 5 soundpacks complete with samples for all of you wishing you had more samples to play with.

For those of you who are out of the loop and scratching your head, PSPKick v3.00 by Noah Vawter and Nathan Wray turns your PSP into a portable sample-based drum machine. And if this first soundpack is any indication, the experience provided by this fantastic piece of homebrew is going to keep getting better and better if Nathan and Noah can continue enlisting the help of talented musicians.

"Our first contact with Diallo was when he showed up out of nowhere and started decimating folks with his beats on our old forums. Since then he has helped us with amazing amounts of work, whether it was beta testing, soundpacks, songs, user input or even just suggestions. Out of all our peoples, he has stood his ground and stuck with us the most and for that we thank him immensely. We can't wait to see what new blazing tracks and surprises he will be gracing us with!"

You can check out more of Virginia's finest producer on his website: www.diallobeats.com or stop by the Official PSPKick Forums here at QJ.NET and hear some of the tracks he's been throwin down lately.
There are two methods of installation. You can either unzip the file straight to the soundpacks folder on your memory card (/psp/game/pspkick3.0/soundpacks) OR you can unzip them on your computer and drag and drop the .pack files and the 'drum' directory to the same place. You will get a dialog box, in either case, that asks if you want to overwrite files. Just say yes.

NOTE: If you have added some of your own sounds, you may want to check to make sure that the sounds in this collection do not have the same name as the ones you have added or your samples will be overwritten with these.

#6

#6 listen to the beats made by Diallo and Restless and others on the forums for this app...they are tight...
by - 2006-04-26 12:28:57
Clear up stuff

1) Restless didn't release anything officially through PSPKick, YET.. But you should look out for one or two from him possibly in the future. 2) I agree most hip-hop on the radio today is substandard. But to say hip-hop is gay is retarded. Go listen to ANYTHING on the Stones Throw label. 3) As for incredibly hard.. Try picking new sounds that AREN'T techno based. Try any of Diallo's packs for that matter. Also try practicing or even emulating a track you really like so you can see what it looks like visually in PSPKick! So please enjoy! Come visit the forums!

......

.....ive been involved with music production for over 5 years.....and using pspkick was nice for a good 5 minutes till after that the novelty wore off...it has a lot of potential.....but it needs a bit more before its completely usable as a serious music production tool....it does kind of feel like a broken version of fruityloops.....(and i dont like fruityloops)
by - 2006-04-26 14:09:13
Because it's friggin PORTABLE thats why..

So what do you do for music production when riding on a train? Or a bus? Or at the supermarket? Or what do you do when you have a ebat in your head ANYWHERE and you need to get it down quickly? Apparently most of you whip out your computer, wait for it to boot, fire up fruity loops, then load up the sounds, then sequence it all. I think most of you forget what this site is about.

#13: The problems you are describing are a dead giveaway that some sort of Firewall or popup blocker is keeping your from downloading. To test, turn off software like Zone Alarm and see if that helps. If it does, you need to add QJ.NET and DL.QJ.NET to your "allowed sites" lists.

good feedback

Dear #15, Thank you for the brilliant post! It was really fascinating to learn that a program written by two people in their spare time in less than a year, given away for free and running on the equivalent of a pentium 2 from 1997 doesn't have as many features as one developed by a commerical company for over 6 years! And it really wouldn't mean as much if someone else had said it, because I really respect your opinion seeing as how you've been involved with music production for 5 years. Why can't you say "producing music?" Is it because "involved with music" really only means mopping up after real rock star orgies? I hope you continue to post your insightful comments because I'm sure each time I read one, I'll be reminded of what kind of musician I never, ever want to become - a snob completely incapable of creating your own style. And I, for one, sure hope the PSPKick team is attentively listening to your requests so that they can never add anything you want to the program. You won't need it when you're scoring the soundtrack to the next My Little Ponies movie. Go Nathan and Noah, we're with you all the way. stark d.

....

#18 Did i bash pspkick? no. I specifically said "IT HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL". Did i say something immature like the 10 year old posters who frequent this blog? no. I simply stated my opinion which is that it felt like a broken version of fruityloops. I couldnt care if 2 people made it, or a group of 100; IT DOESNT CHANGE ANYTHING. Do i respect what the 2 have done? sure. As for me not saying "Music producer", its because i wasnt giving myself the full fledged title of a PRODUCER in the sense of someone who does it as a career. Granted I strive towards it, but im not signed and im not under any contracting at the moment so i wouldnt feel comfortable calling myself a producer if i wasnt actually working on any projects for other signed artists (as i have in the past). So the actual reason for me not using that TITLE inappropriately, was to avoid misusing a title i hold in high respect. Until of course someone like you who was dying for someone to make a comment you didnt agree with came along; so you could wave your "Im a true musician and i love pspkick" flag. "I hope you continue to post your insightful comments because I'm sure each time I read one, I'll be reminded of what kind of musician I never, ever want to become - a snob completely incapable of creating your own style." Where do you get off judging anything about my music when you havent even heard it? You dont even know what genre or style of music i produce. I think you already are what you never wanted to become. Did that pointless rant make you feel any better about yourself? Do you feel more self-worth? People like you crack me up. I wish you luck bangin those pots and pans in your mothers kitchen Mr. Producer.

bring it

#22 So make something on PSPKick and lets see how well it stacks up against some of the others in the forums. Lets see what your 5 minutes of 'novelty' use sounds like. Some of the tracks people are making with this thing are quite impressive. I guess this goes for all you people that love to just trash ***** without really getting into it.. I think we would ALL love to hear what you can make with it.
by - 2006-04-26 15:40:08
whos the best

yo who beats do you think are the tightes on the forum??
by - 2006-04-26 16:02:00

O RLY what is your name cuz i happen to know the producer who made those tracks....
by - 2006-04-26 16:21:13
Flame war

Why do the comments for PSP Kick always turn to a flame war?!?!
by - 2006-04-26 16:28:39
#18 and #15

#18 sounds like someone involved with this project. No one would get that offended or take it so personal unless they had a hand in it. #15 just said it could use a bit more before it could be used as a serious music tool. Mopping up after real rock star orgies?!?! Jeez get a life and grow up!
by - 2006-04-26 16:57:47

some people have no vision

PSPKick is blazing the trail toward the next wave in audio production. And to those *****s out there trying to knock the progress of the PSPKick Team, I would say check out the tracks from each version and you will see amazing progress with each release. Thanks to these guys you now have a tool that allows you to produce quility music right from your pocket, let's see you do that with fruityloops. I've heard music produced with this program as good or better than any produced with FL, and while it has limitations in comparison to a music sequencing program runnin on a fully equipped PC, just as any other app running on this enviroment, it also has obvious strengths over any PC based DAW. I've tried all sorts of music sequencing programs and in my opinion there is no better way to produce tracks on the go!!
by - 2006-04-26 23:01:13
I agree

PSPKick does have potential. It would be nice to use custom samples (bitrate/limited length) and make a song longer than 2 minutes tho wish list: longer song length longer sample length effects like reverb, distortion and delay more than 12 samples! it can only get better with time. hopefully the next release won't take as long to come out :)
