PSP2Joypad

Stefano Russello is known worldwide as the person responsible for PSPBREW. He is out to his usual antics: Developing something so good and brimming with potential, that it can change your PSP gaming experience; and in turn wow us with his new creation for the PSP this time PSP to Joypad.

PSP to Joypad allows the user to connect your PSP to a PC via WiFi and use it as you would a typical joypad. It can support two PSPs at the same time, without having to edit the IP address as well as simulating the keys L2 and R2. The application is still on the early development stage. That said, if you encounter any sort of bug while using the program, Russello encourages you to send in feedbacks about PSP to Joypad.

Thanks for sharing this information Puffo83.

HBI

What are you supposed to do with an hbi file extension? Looked it up and it seems to be create by handy backup but the program says that it is a corrupt index file. Advice would be appreciated if you have sussed it!

help

hi, my ip is xxx.xxx.xx.x but on the homebrew i got a mask for a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ip, what to do?
by Supermart - 2006-08-02 15:37:20
Re 10

Just use leading zeroes, worked for me
by - 2006-08-02 15:40:12
@ # 10

Example: If 192.168.69.5 (random numbers here) is your adress, then type 192.168.069.005 in the PSP. I tried to use this but somehow nothing happens. I connect to my computer, but there is no reaction. Does anyone know how to use this?
by - 2006-08-02 15:51:55
nice!

nice one! btw *.hbi is a file extension for direct install with live homebrew installer, full file is in the first link, hope qj fix it :)
by Supermart - 2006-08-02 15:53:03
re 12

You have to run the PSPtoJOYPAD.exe on your PC. You then need a game that wants to use the joypad, but the exe shows that the psp is connected and working as a joypad.
by - 2006-08-02 15:56:09
Nope.

It's far too slow to be practicle. I was trying to play 007 Goldeneye, and the delays are insane. I gave it a shot, and it fails.
by - 2006-08-02 15:57:27
anyone got this working?

anyone got this working? i used the full install from the psp-ital my psp connected just fine but i just can't get it to work if anyone get it to work just tell us how you did it in a quick tut, please my italian sucks
by - 2006-08-02 16:04:47
UN MOVABLE RECYCLE BIN????

WTF,I now have a recycle bin on the m/s that formatting does'nt remove, anyone else got this?
by - 2006-08-02 16:07:17
:(

This is what I'm doing: I start the app on the PSP and the .exe on the PC. The PSP Program asks me for the IP adress. So I type in the IP of my PC. Then i says "Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx..." (The x's actually show the real IP adress.) Nothing happens until I press START. Shortly before I see the next screen, it says "Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", which is another IP adress, but not my PC's one. The .exe doesn't show any reaction at all. The window for "Joypad 1" remains yellow. What now?

Dont have WiFi how about USB?

can we use the psp as a joypad through USB?
by - 2006-08-02 16:34:29
USB ver.

Someone should create a USB version of this. For I do not have WiFi in my house. It is cool though, keep up the good work.
by - 2006-08-02 16:54:26
USB would me much better

Tutorial

it works, but sends each botton press like 2 or 3 times like ill hit X once on my psp and it goes"ss" Easy Steps 1. Unzip all files 2. Copy files to psp 3. run program on pc 4. run program on psp 5. enter the ip of the pc running the program To find your ip 1. Click Start, then Run 2. Type "cmd" or "command" 3. In Xommand Prompt type "ipconfig" 4. A local ip should start with 192.168.x.xxx EG: 192.168.1.107 5. on psp you would enter 192.168.001.107 *these are not my ip addresses *they are fake and used for show
by - 2006-08-02 17:01:20
It works fine but....

It's unusable since it is incredbily slow.
by - 2006-08-02 17:05:33
...

it works, but it responds kinda slow. maybe the next release will be better.
by - 2006-08-02 17:06:43
AD-HOC

PLEASE!!!! Add ad-hoc support
by - 2006-08-02 17:15:10
Would be nice...

if only the PSP wouldn't have the *****tiest D-Pad ever T_T
by - 2006-08-02 17:42:31
nope

isn't there another kind of wifi controller? in the forums under homebrew discussion on page 2 theres a controller like it and everyone who has it working says its no lag but i couldnt get it to work
by - 2006-08-02 17:45:43
Should use USB

I agree; it should definitely use USB. Even if the code was really well optimized, the fact that it goes through WiFi will inevitably make it slower. USB, while having the ugly cord, would easily allow it to be as fast as necessary (and allow for easy use while traveling as opposed to having to set up an Ad-hoc connection to the PSP). It's a great concept, though.
by maverick990 - 2006-08-02 17:54:41
third wifi controller this week

@27: yes there is another controller and it works perfectly in pretty much the same way. search for "WiFi Controller" and it should turn up.
by - 2006-08-02 18:04:10
sorry accedent

I meant, why the hell does this wifi controller work, and the other one doesnt for me. I hope he releases a fix for it so the response time isnt so slow, other then that.. good job!
by - 2006-08-02 18:29:57
this NEEDS to be USB

not everyone has a wireless god damn router -_-
by - 2006-08-02 18:35:26
^^^^^^^^^^^^^

just use the analog stick
by - 2006-08-02 18:40:20
use the other one

yea... the other wi fi controller is works pretty much perfectly if you work your way through the complicated installation. it also supports use of the analog stick! woot! super smash with a wireless controlller is the greatest!!
by soopergooman - 2006-08-02 19:23:37
...

#1 from now on, it should be that if you're unregistered, you can't make the first post. With that out of the way. I'm so glad virt joysticks are out for the psp. I never thought pc games would be so much fun. I wonder though, if you can make a psp work as a controller for pc's, then couldn't you also make a pc controller work as a wifi one for the psp? Cheers on the release!
by - 2006-08-02 21:17:16
eh?

Ok? So this is the third WiFi PSP Joypad homebrew to come out :S And so far this one seems to be the same as the last one to me??? I didn't see any improvements?
by drew4237 - 2006-08-02 21:54:15
this one works for 2 psps to connect

but by doing that it supposedly lags. im gonna stick to the other one taht i already have working and it isnt as complicated as u think i can install it in less than 10 min depending of ur internet but if u have a wifi router then u probly have high speed.
by Mystic8277 - 2006-08-02 22:53:36
.

Works pretty damn good playing Contra III on ZSNES
by RaiderX - 2006-08-02 23:25:12
USB would be nice, much faster and more responsive.

This one is great! But each key press sends about 3 times and on all of my emulators and games, it isnt so responsive. O well, thats why I bought my wireless logitech controller! :D Nice work on this anyway! I hope to see improved updates!

Here is the actuall file, from the site

Here is the FULL link to the 2mb prog, http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=it_en&trurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.psp-ita.com%2fupload%2ffileup%2fpsp%2fPSPtoJOYPAD.zip
by - 2006-08-03 01:08:53
.There is already something like this.

There is already that WIFI controller out which runs at full speed. I use it as my joystick for alot of emulators like n64. its eaiser to install too. do what #34 says. Good attempt though.

Why?

I can think of absolutely no reason why I would want to do this. If I'm understanding this correctly, your PSP then becomes a wi-fi joypad to your PC? How horrible. One of my biggest (only) complaints about the PSP is the controls leave a bit to be desired (especially L3 and R3 functionality). Carrying this downfall over to your PC seems totally unnecessary especially when you can mod a standard PS2 controller to plug right into your PC for under 5 bucks. The standard PS2 controller is not perfect, but VASTLY superior to the PSP in every regard. This is like developing a kit that will allow you to put your 1300 VW beetle motor into your Ferrari... what's the point?
by - 2006-08-03 05:55:34
IT SUCKS

this one sucks its not good as the one WFI PC Controller this one the buttons some time hang for a sec or two
by Al2x - 2006-08-03 06:31:07
:\

Button times barely even hang. Maybe half a second. But it's connected through your IP, and this is only his first version. Give the guy a break. He never makes his programs bad.
by - 2006-08-03 10:08:16
WOW

works realy well, i was playing super mario 64 with it, ran great, after about 2 min it started to lagg but i guess that has to be expected on such an early release, keep up the good work ill be looking forward to new releases p.s dosnt work with visual boy advance, it says "capture screen" then goes white and stalls
by - 2006-08-03 12:38:47
Here is why its slow

I have a high end wifi network and router. And the precision is great for me. A reason it is so slow for others, is because of the signal sometimes. Try making sure you are really close to your modem or wireless router. To where the psp registers it as 100%. That should help alot, if not completly fix it.
by - 2006-08-04 03:20:56
sef

This is pretty amazing. Needs a little more tweaking before it's 100% useable, but great non the less.
by - 2006-08-04 06:01:53
eh

i got this to work but it was incredibly laggy and barely functioned...even with a 100% signal from my router
by - 2006-08-04 06:45:12
mac

anyway to get this to work with macs?
by - 2006-08-05 18:35:38
uhhh what?

umm when i try to open it on my psp it says"the game cannot be started. the data is corrupted." Help? i have 2.71 if that matters
by - 2006-08-08 03:46:51
how about PS2-to-PSP?

I play my PSP during the long hours of work. Alot of Tekken with co workers. We would play more Street Fighter and Guilty Gear if i could just sit my PSP on my desk and use a PS2 Controller instead. Fierce and Roundhouse on R1 and R2 would rock. A WAY better digital pad. the TV Adapter Kit (PSP2TV) on Liksang.com has this feature but who wants to pay over $100? Anyone else in the works on something like this? It doesn't have to be Wi-Fi, then again it Might have to be. Happy Hacking.
