PSP homebrew developer PirataNervo has released an update to NervOS, his official entry to the PSP Updates Summer Homebrew Contest. NervOS is a shell application similar to IR Shell. This update has several new features and bug fixes. If you're a fan of the previous releases, you should definitely update.

Of the major changes is support for certain data compression formats, Adhoc file transfer, and increased compatibility with PRX plugins. Here's the full list of changes in NervOS 2.2, as enumerated by PirataNervo:
  • nosautoboot.prx: now it is more stable (both autoboot plugins) and fixed a problem that caused the XMB to not load sometimes.
  • System Info: Free Ram uses a different function now.
  • Unpacker: Added unrar support
  • Unpacker: Added 7z support
  • When typing your password in log in (not in recovery), it shows the password as *
  • Adhoc File Transfer
  • NervOS Configurator: Now opens the file browser when you choose the font option.
  • NervOS Configurator: Now opens the file browser when you choose the user image option.
  • Picture Viewer: added GIF support (animated GIF's too, maybe not all gif's are displayed right (specially the black and white colors))
  • Picture Viewer: added BMP support (16 bit BMP can be loaded but may not be displayed correctly. 24 bit BMP files are displayed correctly. 32 bit may not be loaded or displayed correctly)
  • Picture Viewer: fixed 1 bug
  • Increased compatibility with PRX plugins
  • File Browser: Fixed 2 bugs and 1 typo
  • NervOS Installer: remade the graphics and added some sounds
  • NervOS Configurator: when changing theme, does not restart anymore.
  • USBHostFS: No need for UMD discs anymore when you want to play an ISO (if no UMD is inserted, it uses OE Isofs)
  • Added 3 new icons under applications: NetHostFS, Unpacker, Adhoc File Transfer
  • File Browser: Added usbhostfs0 and nethostfs0 to root directory so you can navigate through there.
  • File Browser: Added "Send file via Adhoc" in tools window
  • ISO Browser: fixed bug when reading ICON0.PNG.

Cool!@

Why don't add ad hoc conection between PC and PSP? That would be cool! Transfering fies without using a USB cable and without using an internet conection. My pc suports ad hoc connection and when I connect the PSP in ad hoc and when I check PC conection PSP shows in, but its impossible to make anything, because Pc doesnt have this kind of Software and PSP may have it but not to use with PC. Still pretty cool! Why don't add PSX multiplayer interface? Why don't add PSP ad-hoc server to Infrastructure so We can play ISO/PSP games that aren't ONLINE but ad hoc via Internet. Too much to ask...

sir pirata nervo i've got a bug report

i have dl and using nervOS 2.1 for a couple of weeks now here is 2.2 with new features the problem is... "I cant play isos on usbhostfs...it says error "0x38473" something like that" on nervos 2.1. i can play isos on usbhostfs with no problem at all. here's what i did: 1) i uninstalled nervos 2.1 completely. 2) i deleted the nervOS 2.1 installer 3) copied the Nervos 2.2 installer 4) i installed it as prescribed in the nervOS documentation. but when i play isos on usbhostfs. it says error "0x38473" somethin like that. and when i revert back to nervOS 2.1 everything works normally including playing isos on usbhostfs. any one here to help me? or anyone experienced this? please help.

It does work

ISOs with usbhost works just as good with 2.2. You don't even need the UMD. The problem could be is that it uses OE Isofs. Try another iso and disable any plugins you have for game.

hm...

i've tried this shell before, but.... i couldn't get past the fact that there are no transition animations. does this release have them?
by UltimaArmorX - 2008-09-13 14:34:16
I guess that's a no.

Not using NervOS until then.
by Twenty-Se7en - 2008-09-13 20:53:03
There is a way around all this...

Use the NervOS configuration to turn off the password requirement - auto logs in without any user name, etc.
by Twenty-Se7en - 2008-09-13 20:57:24
huh?

Transition animations? Like a fade effect between pressing on shut down and the shutdown screen?
by robby69 - 2008-09-14 06:27:17
movies....

can't watch movies? well everything else is good, nice job and hope you could add that feature
by UltimaArmorX - 2008-09-14 09:56:46
Oh hey cool.

Thanks.

I think he means he wants it to be like the XMB, the way it slides(transition) rather than just instantly happening.
