oh god...

it's so freaking sad when you have to explain what a mod is. God. To 'sceners' - ok I'll stop complaining and explain what they are.... but seriously this is ... there's this thing called "GOOGLE" ya know?

Anyway, a mod file is a sound file, made popular on the Amiga. It was the forerunner to the .s3m, .it, and .xm formats. It contains samples and patterns for playback.

You can find mods to play at places like modarchive.com, chiptune.com, and many other places.

How old are these mods? I have no idea what .s3m, .it or .xm are. Sorry, but thanks for the explanation

Generally, it falls under the category of 'If you don't know what they are, you probably won't care'. They are music files from back in the Commodore Amiga days (early 90s?) It's what we had for computer generated music before MP3s. :) It's like the SID player that was mentioned a few days (old Commodore 64 music files).

There's already a couple of MOD players for the PSP, so I am kind of surprised so many people are asking about what these are...
