PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior - Image 1

A possible exploit, a multi-tasking iR Shell, a couple of developer-centric homebrew releases... This was a pretty good week for homebrew, since even if the releases have become a bit few and far between compared to when the homebrew scene was a booming one, the quality's still pretty high. Anyway, enough dawdling. Let's get right on to the latest issue of the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior!

GENERAL PSP HOMEBREW NEWS:
  • Could there be a PSP-3000 exploit hidden in Phantasy Star Portable? Somebody checked it out, and while the results weren't spectacular, they're still interesting, if only for a point of discussion. Link.
HOMEBREW APPLICATIONS:
  • Pegasus2000 has released a new version of Nanodesktop, the popular SDK for homebrew devs. This version has several bug fixes as well as three important new features, including support for Python and the PSP serial port. Link.
  • Here's another one for the homebrew devs out there. Drakon has released a PSP-optimized revision of Box2D, a 2D physics library. Link.
  • If you want to do just about everything on your PSP, here's a start: SuperFury1's PopStation PSP, an app that will let you convert PSX games to eboot using your handheld (Link). The dev also released an update that let users change their eboot's save id, game title, and game id (Link).
  • Finally, it's the big five-oh! AhMan has released that uber cool "advanced multi-tasking" iR Shell he was teasing us with last month! Link.
  • Developer Moscas has released the latest version of GoblinPSP which includes a bug fix for some problems in the applications menu. Link.
HOMEBREW GAMES:
  • Everybody can use a little Wario in their lives, and homebrew devs theallteam knows that. Hence, they've released a little homebrewed minigame collection called PortableWarioWare. Link.
  • Crazy Gravity made its way to the PSP thanks to a port by The Underminer. Link.
  • PSP homebrew dev zeroXorXdieXskater added more weapons to unleash your wrath on your XMB with in version 3.- of Smash My PSP!. Link.
  • Here's another reason to bring your PSP to school: the second version of poool's homebrew calculator app,Calculette. Link.

Wololo's guide to searching for PSP gamesave exploits was pretty much the high point of my homebrew week. It's been a while since I last heard something regarding homebrewer efforts to render the as-of-now-impenetrable PSP-3000 open to homebrew, so news of a possible exploit in Phantasy Star Portable was welcome, even though it didn't really pan out.

The main thing I appreciate here though is Wololo's guide to exploit searching, since it opens up a way for even non-devs to try and look for exploits on their PSP games. The more people searching for something, the higher the chances that that something is found. Of course, that also depends on if that something really does exist. Still, here's hoping that the 3000 becomes part of the homebrew family soon.
