Homebrew coder Bubbletune is back to release a new update for Game Categories plugin, a handy homebrew plugin that lets you categorize and organize your PSP's Game menu. The latest update has added support for 5.50 GEN, new mode, new options, language support and more.

Developer's note:

This was mainly implemented because of the new integration with vsh, and it didn't look good to have an English string in other languages. You can translate the plugin by creating a text file at ms0:/seplugins/game_categories_xx.txt, where xx is the language code of your language. A list of language codes can be found in the readme. Note that if you just changed your language in vsh, you need to reboot to make the changes active (this will be fixed in a future version). A file game_categories_en.txt is included for translation purposes, but not necessary to copy to your PSP, as English is embedded inside the plugin.

Version 4 changelog:
  • Recoded entire project.
  • Added support for 5.50 GEN.
  • Added new mode, "Context menu", see below for more information (this replaces pre-game-menu mode).
  • Added new option under System Settings to pick your mode instead of the ctrl combo.
  • Added possibility to translate the plugin to your own language.
  • Order of your categories is now calculated from their modification time instead of randomly.
  • Changed remap code, a lot of character and count limits should now be gone or decreased, including SCE limits.
  • Show All option was removed in order to aid the removal of certain th limits.
  • Fixed compatibility with a lot plugins.

How about you read the readme.txt file...

by DarkXCloud - 2009-08-27 11:39
» Sigh...

Read the readme file

For example

CAT_PSX Games

CAT_ISO Games

CAT_Homebrew

CAT_Apps

Name them however you like but you need to include CAT_ in it.

» YES!

I've been waiting for this for the longest!

I really love this plugin and when I found out that it does not work on 5.50 GEN-A/B, I went back to 5.00 M33-6. But now cause of this plugin, I might just really update to 5.50 GEN-A/B!

Thanks Bubbletune!

» Sort Alphabetically

The only thing I wish this plugin could do would be the ability to sort your custom folders and their content alphabetically. Do you guys know a workaround to do this?

by SchmilK - 2009-08-28 04:08
» your doing it wrong...

you have done something wrong.

-rebrowse for your nes/snes roms, it is using the last used folder of somethign like \psp\game\nes\r oms path

-what firmware are you using? pops works fine for me

by iamshadow - 2009-08-28 04:43
» yes

since it sorts the categories by creation/last edit date, just re-make the categories in alphabetical order

by tainogunslinger - 2009-08-28 05:09
» ok..

Well, I didn't do anything wrong. I followed the instructions from the readme to the "T".

However, when I get home, I will recreate the CAT_Emulator folder and copy the Emulators back in there and then try rebrowsing my roms.

All the roms currenty work fine uncategorized, btw.

Also, I am on 5.00 M33-6 and my POPS worked fine before. I will check these after work as well to make sure something didn't become corrupted since the last time I played a PS1 title.

All of my PSP ISO's and other Homebrew apps are working just fine and I have CR-5400 w/ 2x16gb SDHC class 6.
