Here's some good news for the PSP community, homebrew coders Xenogears and Becus25 has released Custom Firmware Enabler. This program will enable the functions of M33 CFW using ChickHen except for Recovery and Pops. It also works with TA-088v3 motherboards, but sadly it doesn't support the PSP 3000 yet.

To install the program:
  • Download the file in the link below
  • Copy the CFWEnabler folder to your ms0:/PSP/GAME/ directory.
  • Start ChickHEN R2 (minimum) from the Photo Directory
  • Run the app called "CFW Loader for ChickHEN". After you run the program, it will ask you to install the needed CFW modules to flash0, press circle and then "x" to start the CFW.
For more info about the release, please read the README provided in the download.

» finally..

a iso loader at last?

by Py7Val - 2009-05-26 04:16
» Great job

Great work. All the PSP Slims can now do all the functions of the Custom Firware (except load PSX Games and use the Reocvery Mode)

by iamtheonetruejebus - 2009-05-26 04:31
» awesome

man..its hard to believe how amazing these ppl are.. they never give up on making the psp scene better than it already it is...my hats off to all ppl who are taking the time and effort to make my life that much happier..lol...thnx guys keep up the great work..!!

by bsanehi - 2009-05-26 04:39
» yea

and you cant use custom themes

by m3rox - 2009-05-26 04:41
» ..

Good job on enabling piracy, jerks.

by bsanehi - 2009-05-26 04:41
» And if you brick the psp

your fu*ked because theres no pandora to unbrick it

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 05:00
» Dont worry

This enabler does not overwrite anythin in flash0. Instead it writes new files in the free space of flash0. So the chance of bricking your PSP is about the same as bricking it while setting a picture as wallpaper from the XMB. Not really big

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 05:10
» BTW...

Whats the difference between the 3k and 2k with TA-088v3 motherboards?

Why does this not work on the 3k?

Is it to protect the 3k from piracy or does it jusst takes more time to enable this for the 3000?

Does anyone care to explain it to me?

by 1337-Scruffy - 2009-05-26 05:11
» wow

i like how people re-use the M33 files, why not start something new? make a new firmware? dont get me wrong M33 is a damn good CFW, lets see what the other devs can make, and im sure if some of you got together on an IM session, you guys could make something REALLY good.

just my thought, great progress though.

by sicksider - 2009-05-26 05:18
» Weird...

Hey guys..

Just wondering, Why PSP returned to official 5.03 after I hack it 5.03ChickHEN R2 and Custom Firmware v1.0? It happen when I reboot the PSP.

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 05:32
» This is why

The m33 is written to the flash alright. But none of the old files are lost

(If you try to install CFW permanently it would result in a bicked psp). this is why your PSP still boots into OFW!

but you dont need to write it to the flash0 again next time you wanna use m33, its still there.

by akadewboy - 2009-05-26 06:10
» Because:

It's not easy and there's no reason to re-invent the wheel.

by JorgeVdB - 2009-05-26 06:40
» hm..

So, basically, I just need to press O (to flash M33 cfw into the flash) the first time, then the second time and so on I just need to press X?

by silk_threads - 2009-05-26 06:50
» wonderin the same

was wondering why cant it be done on a psp 3000 with TA-088v3 mobo,

its the same mobo as psp 2k

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 07:09
» mhm

When you install it for the first time you will have to press O to install it and then X to run it. But thats only the first time. Now you jusst have to use the X option every time you wanna use m33

by celebv1 - 2009-05-26 08:12
» its not easy

i dont think you realized how complicated the programs that make this work. the raw data is too long to fit on an email if its not compressed, never mind IM's doing anything.

M33 is the top of many years of work, you dont just "start something new"

they've allready made something REALLY good, its called CFW.

by L0NG - 2009-05-26 08:20
» you jerk

S my D you piracy victim ^_^

hahahahaha die *****!!!

you all die *****es!!! pirating is allways ROCKS!!!

Ok so Alex explained this sometime ago, so I'll just link you so you can read it for yourself.

» Its been done before

Well I'm not sure how long you have been in the scene, but if its been over a year you should recall the who GEN firmwares, and how the creators were pretty much crucified. I never tried it myself, but from what I've heard it wasn't that bad.

by Shabbypenguin - 2009-05-26 09:16
» actually

wallpaper is store along with the rest of your settings, in flash 1

by m3rox - 2009-05-26 09:34
» ..

Let me guess, you're the queer who spray painted "S my D" on the railroad tracks by my home this morning?

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 09:35
» Bah!..

I still dont get why this doesnt work with 3000.

There are two fakts that makes me belive that a 3000 version should be possible.

1. The chickhen is working on it. (there you have the kernelmode)

2. The does not overwrite anything and will caus any brick.

And its loaded the sama way chickhen is loaded... almost. you do not boot into the custom firmware.

You load it from a homebrew... And the "Homebrew enabler" works on 3000 right!

And yeahl. I know that those old iso loadres doesnt work on slim or bright due to 1.5 kernel.

Well this should be able to work caus it built for the same kernel. and the same frimware. and the same friggin HEN!

by SolidSnake117 - 2009-05-26 09:41
» That's like saying...

Good job sony, you made a new update that can now do all the functions of the custom firmware M33 (except load homebrew, iso, psx games for free, emulators, .ctf themes, recovery mode,....and the list goes on) but good job anyway :D......

No!!! if you say it can do all that a real cfw can do, then why did you start saying: except....!!!!!!

by FreePlay - 2009-05-26 09:52
» ...

None of that is relevant. That's why you can't boot directly into CFW, not why you can't use HEN to load it.

by FreePlay - 2009-05-26 09:54
» It's relatively simple.

If you look through the files M33 installs, it has different versions (for a few PRXes) for the 1000 and 2000 series. There are no 3000 series files yet, since nobody outside of M33 has bothered to make those yet.

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 10:20
» but?..

Doesnt 3k share pretty much the same system as the 2k? they use the same mobo and they have the same firmware. They should have pretty much in common.

I thought that the microphone and color screen/options was the only big changes. and these things does not need to be touched. doesnt 2k and 3k use the same kernel?

by shanky887614 - 2009-05-26 10:30
» this is why 3k doesnt work

to anser to your question

let me cast your minds back to when they put a 2k processor in a 3k remember they could only get the screen to work through remotejoy

bassicaly long story short the files the 3k uses are different

if you wont to see for your self get a phat or slim a copy of psar dumper (the one with 3k moduel support) and you will get a folder called F0 in side that is the different prxs

get it from DarK AleX's website

by DaniPoo - 2009-05-26 10:36
» ok... I belive you.

but there is still hope for the 3000?

by jasonyip33 - 2009-05-26 11:44
» wait...

so still no iso even after using this, right?

and do we need the original m33 files?

by jagrege - 2009-05-26 12:05
» for 2000 only

ISO support for the 2000's only. And I hope it stays that way. If you want to pirate get an older version of PSP. I dont know about you people, but I eventually want good games.

by jasonyip33 - 2009-05-26 12:18
» thx, still wondering to clarify

Sooo, I can play custom iso/cso on the 2000 right now with this, right? do i need to dl any additional m33 files?

by Aces In The Palm - 2009-05-26 12:30
» ITS NOT THE SAME MOTHERBOARD

previously unhackable PSP-2000's have TA-088v3's

the PSP-3000's have TA-090v2's

maybe simular BUT NOT THE SAME!!

by ThirstyCow - 2009-05-26 14:02
» Nice Work!!!

Good Jobs People, we are closer to fully enabling the PSP's full potential now. People who are against ISO's are really enemies with 93% with the Dutch as a recent article states....probably more with the rest of the world, PSP 3000 anytime soon???

by FreePlay - 2009-05-26 14:17
» No.

That's why we had to wait to be able to decrypt the 3000 modules from an OFW, too. They're different files.

by jasonyip33 - 2009-05-26 14:24
» other dl m33

Do i need to dl any other m33 files? and also, i can play downloaded iso/cso on 2000, right?

by jagrege - 2009-05-26 14:32
» read...

the readme aka directions.

by billylee8 - 2009-05-26 14:42
» And there we have it

When people say "they want custom firmware," what they REALLY mean is "they want to totally illegally pirate games," as this user brazenly demonstrates.

I can't help but get the feeling that some people make homebrew games (all of which seem about as fun as watching paint dry) just so pirates can say "Yeah man these homebrew games are GREAT! Go get custom firmware so you can play these great homebrew games!"

It's kinda like how a gang could get a hold of some real estate, serve the worst food available, and set up a sign that says "Joe's Restaurant" just so they could say they run a legitimate business.

by jasonyip33 - 2009-05-26 14:43
» ...

so wat's the answer?

by jagrege - 2009-05-26 16:20

» PSP 3000 question

They have not been able to decrypt the firmware yet right?

But have they been able to extract the files from it?

Why have they not been able to decrypt this yet.

They're use to decrypt the firmwares kinda fast normaly.

by Donish1786 - 2009-05-27 04:07
» bin files...

while installing these prx's, its also writing command lines in the bin files, if this program writes the bin files first, then the installers drops his or her psp or disrupts the flashing of anyway, then the program cannot install the prx's, then youve got a semibrick... srry

» but

pandora batteries are still usable right? you just open up the battery and clip off a pin, its really easy

by ThirstyCow - 2009-05-27 16:17
» sigh*

Guess the 3000 one will have to wait a while then since modules compatible with it havent been created yet

» ChickHEN R2 and CFW Enabler 1.0

Hello, I just purchased a 3000 and a 2000 psp. I have the 2000 working with the chickHEN R2 and the CFW Enabler. Everything checks out even in the systems info. So I have the ISO folder in the ms:root with the iso games in the folder. The games appear when I get ready to load them but when loading the games the screen turns black and turns the psp off. Any suggestions? I am really new to this and would appreciate any comments. I dont know if this has anything to do with not having a pandora battery or am I missing something. Again everything from chickhen to cfw works. Just no luck with the games.

» CFW updating after enabling

I wonder if you can update to 502 GEN in a TA-88v3 using

this custom firmware enabler?
