PSP FW2.50 TA-082 SoftDown stopped

We've got some pretty bad news for PSP owners out there who have firmware 2.50 with the cursed TA-082 motherboards. Coder 0okm, who was working on a SoftDown downgrader for TA-082s, has decided to stop working on the said project. This decision came about after somebody tried to hack into his Gmail account and discredited him with some nasty gossip.

All the people who were generous enough to donate support for 0okm's work were fully refunded - which is a good thing - but we still can't help but feel a bit down about this news item. Hopefully, either 0okm will decide to work on the project again in the near future or someone else will pick it up.

Right now, let's all show some support for 0okm in whatever his next homebrew project is.

How it was a scam? I can understand that *maybe* you might need a serial to generate a certain code that is for the serial of that one psp only, but an ISP (ISP: Internet Service Provider) e-mail? THAT'S AS PATHETIC AS THE NEOPETS "hi i can give u free items can i have ur password?" SCAM! ANY ORDINARY EMAIL SHOULD WORK! I DONT KNOW HOW QJ COULDN'T SEE IT BUT IT WAS A SCAM OK??? I'm pretty sure that the same guy who hacked his g-mail account hacked his QJ net account and made this stupid hoax. How do I know? IT ENDED IN ONE DAY! AND HE (the hacker) WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO EVEN SEND A MESSAGE TO THE GMAIL ACCOUNT!

If this guy really did know how to soft downgrade T082 Psp's then he could have shared the source with trusted devs.

I was waiting to see what excuse would be used to stop doing this and now I see an extremely lame and unoriginal one.

I do not believe it for one second. He is beginning to sound like another Psdonkey. How strange that as soon as he makes a statement that he is going to go ahead with the downgrades that his Gmail account is mysteriously hacked. If you ask me, this is a classic case of ''biting of more than you can chew'' and then bottling out with some lame excuse.

Just think how much traffic this has generated on his site and how many people religiously visited his blog every single day. It was the perfect way to gain more traffic. Even though QJ.net states that all people who donated were refunded, he still gains due to the difference in currency rates. Either way, he wins. I do not trust him.

Ookm is a very interesting dev. A lot of people think SCAM! but, he was one of the first and worked on the tool chain as 35 said. If it wasn't a scam this definately sucks. However, I agree, he should release the source. I don't think it's a scam as he refunded everyone

thank god the downgrade wasn't realised. ookm's work so far has been a total dis-service to PSP game devs and to sony by enabling people to downgrade for the sole purpose of playing pirated games and ISO's.

People are gonna say they don't pirate games and only want to use legal homebrew which is bull*****, but we all know that 95%+ of people who do downgrade are doing it for free games which ultimately will hurt the PSP as a console.

And to all those who say "why don't you come up with a way to downgrade a PSP" I don't need to as I have a 1.5 and will never upgrade so why should I make something that would be of no use to me? I am currently working on improving on the n64 emulator so it will run Starfox and Smash Bros pretty well for my own use since those are the only games I liked on the n64. And it isn't that hard to do I thought it would from the amount of time and problems others have had with it, oh well. So I guess those 4 years of advanced collage computer courses are good for something.

P.S. my version even HAS SOUND. interesing idea for an emulator huh?

It is amazing how someone cancels a project online, and all of the sudden every body becomes an expert at if the project was real or not. I like how everyone suddenly becomes a psychic and worldly know it all whenever something is posted on line. I actually like using Hen on my 2.71. HEN C runs %100 of the time for me, and is the only step extra than what 1.5 users have to use:

1.5 : Better for using homebrew right when it is turned on, but you have to use devhook to play any newer game released.

2.71: Better for UMD Games, internet, flash, etc, but must load Hen (takes about an extra 5 seconds) and then devhook.

Now, because I like to play my UMD games, I prefer 2.71 (That and I have a TA-82 (originally 2.5), but even if I didn't, I still wouldn't downgrade at this point, especially if a newer version of Hen comes out that will run most homebrew without devhook) ;)

Source code is one thing you don't want to release if you protective of your own coding skills...

but to isolate working code that will either brick 100% of the psps out there, or successfully downgrade them... hmm...

If what 0okm had was true, then why was the binary download such a big secret? Why could only selected individuals have it on all these rediculous agreements that don't do anything anyways? What are you going to do? Go to court and tell the judge a guy named 0okm *****ed your PSP you were trying to hack?

How many people actually gave him cash anyways? I'd be curious to hear from that side if they actually did get credited. There is no question in my mind 0okm is one smart dude, but face it guys... Sony won the TA-082 Downgrade war :). The softdown simply does not exist

White PSPs there are all downgraded TA-082 to 1.50. You'll know since he mentioned this:

Non-TA-082 WhitePSPs can be updated to 1.50/1.51. But the one his sponsor selling is not. And he also mentioned that his sponsor gave him PSPs to test in return of downgrading TA-082 PSPs.

Too bad he should've seen it coming. He posted his email publicly and we all know that besides chinese people, he's the only one who can downgrade TA-082 PSP right now.

The softdown can only work on a single PSP, it has to be personalised for each TA-082 PSP. If you use it on a different PSP, it would brick it, would it not?

The reason 0okm asked for an ISP email is simple: an ISP email is hard-coded to your connection, you have to pay for it. It's not something you can just sign up for for free the instant you need to use email for something. What's stopping some idiot from using a gmail/hotmail/yahoo/etc account from getting a softdown for their PSP, and then sharing it, thus bricking countless PSPs belonging to the uneducated?

0okm is just trying to avoid catastrophe.

Have a think for a minute why so many people are shouting SCAM and FAKE!!

The Psp scene has been filled with fake downgraders, fake emulators, people trying to steal money and so many other fake news and stories that it is no wonder no one has trust anymore.

People have donated to emulators that did not exist and lost money to downgraders that were never released.

So what the hell do you expect if a coder that many people do not know much about asks for your ISP and Serial numbers and then threatens to release your information if you some how leaked his work.

You cannot be too careful nowadays so I do not know why so many people are getting annoyed about hearing fake screamed out so much.

There is no trust left in this scene anymore unless a Dev is well known.

By the sounds of it, Ookm is more of a behind the scenes Dev so many people are unaware of his work so of course will be screaming fake. Either way, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, you have what #100 say and despite Ookm saying that the ta-082 SoftDown has stopped, he has published a new blog entry in his official blog with the instructions of the process (with pictures and all). I take it that is for the people who luckily were first to show their interest on becoming part of the proyect, so they can finish the softdown.

Personally I do have a 1.50 PSP (thanks to Dark Alex), but if you people want to show Ookm how bad you feel due to those wankers responsible for the cancellation of the proyect and show some support to him all I can suggest is to jump this Article up in QJ.NET everyday so it is on the "Top 10 Jumped Up Posts in the last 24 hours" for the next weeks.

Hopefully Ookm will rethink about it, realize that many people here have been let down (not only him) and come across a better system to carry on helping TA-082 owners (I am sad to say that the email system was bound to fail sooner than later)

Anyway, good luck to the TA-082 owners and my best to Ookm who REALLY is a PSP hacking master.

honk kong has been releasing white psp's left right and center (even pink) that are 1.5fw.

Incase you didn't know, it's very easy to change a face-plate and buttons

But when i found out that my brother updated to 2.71 when 2.6 downdater was released i was sooo pissed off.

Every 1 said there is no way that 2.71 is going to be downdated, well they did it (1.5 user now)

Nahh, Chuck Noris just needs to look at your TA-082 (or any version/model for that matter) PSP and it'll be downgraded to fw1.5.

It just doesn't make sense that he'd hold out on everyone when he was able to downgrade other PSPs just fine. Yeah, there could've been some things to work out in his method and such, but if the PSPs he already downgraded were good enough to sell online, it really puzzles me that he'd refuse to help anyone else.

It is not a scam. My friend and I bought a FW1.5 White PSP from imported from china for each of us. We were shock to find out that there's IC1003 on both of the unit. I even nearly believed that not all IC1003 are TA-082. My friend tried to upgrade from 1.50 to 2.50 and then downgrade back to 1.50 using Dark_AleX downgrader and guess what, BRICKED!!!

Now we know the fact that $ony never released a White PSP w/ FW1.5. We thought that our TA-082 PSP were "hardware" downgraded but we wonder why the void warranty was still intact and untouched.

And the fact that 0okm can both hardware and software downgrade (he's a chinese) and some other chinese people who hardware downgrade TA-082 for a fee, we know its not a scam.

Yes, hong kong is releasing White PSP FW1.5 left and right. But didn't you know that most of it (if not all) are TA-082? We know the fact that in Shanghai, China there's a small group of people there that hardware downgrades White PSP for a fee. And 0okm is the only one we know who can software downgrade.

I'm not surprised by your reply. You don't have any knowledge about programming. I'm a developer myself and in my point of view, 0okm is a great PSP C/C++ developer in TA-082 area.

Every developer has their own strengths like Dark_AleX @ downgrading stuffs and 0okm @ TA-082 area + Hardware knowledge, etc...

Although I think 0okm is a bit overreacting on the hack stuff, he should've seen it coming since he posted his email publicly.

I can understand that, and you do have a point, but I'm mainly curious as to why the PSPs he downgraded for his sponsor(s) were good enough to sell online at all.

Say you were in 0okm's position. Wouldn't it make more sense to you to work out all the bugs in your downgrader before letting your sponsor sell them?

If you offered the service for free to a select group of people, in order to work out the bugs, you'd be able to give them the "I won't be held responsible if this bricks your PSP, etc." warning.

Sure, the same thing could be done even if you let your sponsor start selling the PSPs you downgraded for them, but if your downgrader had a bug that had the potential of bricking, you'd not only have people angry at you for not fixing it completely, but also at your sponsor as well, for not verifying that it worked exactly as it should.

I can agree that 0okm is only one person, and as such he can only do so much at a time, but to me, things don't add up in this case :\

You see as an adult, you are not affected by taunting and being called out.

That only works on other children (and insecure or childish adults).

An adult does not have to prove to a bunch of children that he does indeed have a program that does what he says it does. He can be satisfied just knowing that he's accomplished what he says he's accomplished, and no amount of childish taunting, or calling out can change that.

And believe me, if on the off chance he really didn't accomplish anything, then he will live with that shame also. None of the positive OR negative comments are truly relevant.

However I personally I have 2 somewhat conflicting opinions on the issue.

1)I have no reason to doubt that he did indeed create the program, and I would never try to discredit him of that accomplishment without proof that it was a hoax.

2)On the other hand, I would not brag about, or entirely believe he actually made this program without seeing proof. And that would need to be at least a good dozen or so people confirming that they have downgraded (any less than that could just be friends of his posting for him)

So basically I'm not convinced either way, but because there's no proof either way, it wouldn't be logical to either back up OR discredit the claim.

Well, in terms of my knowledge(since I live in Hong Kong).

White PSP fw 1.5 is once again very common(since 2.5/2.6 downgrader released) almost in every game store, not second hand, but brand new @ a price not far from a black 1.5 PSP.

I have not done any research whether they're TA-082 softdowned or Harddowned. But changing motherboard service to get fw1.5(from older motherboards) is also common here.

In fact, these fw1.5 psps have a one year warranty(as they're retail PSP-1006 model), suggesting that it should be not hardowned. (But fake void warranty labels exist in China)

Finally, as of today, nearly all Hong Kong PSP 1.5 owners are not TA-082 PSPs(very few claim they have, but they said they used Dark_Alex 2.71 downgrader to downgrade their "IC1003 PSP"(they call it this way in one of the popular HK forums), so should be lying).

p.s. My common sense tells me that 0okm is not a scammer because, he refunded the donations, which a scammer usually don't.
