psp flash autoinstaller

Homebrew overachiever Shallan is back with another program that's meant to make life easier for people like me who is still trying to covince myself that I did the right thing when I updated my PSP's firmware. PSP Flash Auto Installer v1.0 automatically installs swf(s) in a location specified by the user and creates a bookmark in the browser for it. With this program, we 2.7 users can distribute flash content (or browser content) that will autoinstall in our units. According to Shallan, all we have to do is put the file/files into the data folder and change the setup.ini accordingly.

Below is Shallan's example of the setup.ini file using his game Xword.

Title  =  Xword (Title displayed on the installer and also in the bookmarks)
Path =  PSP/Xword/ (Path to copy data to on the PSP must terminate in a / )
Start = PSPXword.swf  (The file to run when the bookmark is clicked)

Make sure there is at least one entry bookmarked because the installer will quit. Note this will work on most versions of Windows except NT4. For you Apple People, don't fret. Shallan is releasing the Mac version in a few days.

# listed in homebrew?Guest 2006-06-01 22:57
Shouldn't this be listed in "Flash Applications" if only for the sake of proper classification?? I imagine it would be easier for people to find later on too instead of having to sift through a bunch of homebrew they can't run....

# Piracy sucksGuest 2006-06-02 02:27
To be honest, I upgrade my PSP to support Sony. The PSP piracy is lame, people pirate games and the developers never get any money, then everyone complains about how there are never any good games because developers are dropping out due to their games being pirated.

If Sony didn't block piracy, they'd have crashed and burned by now.

This is a great tool and is saving me a load of time

I totally agree with house.

I don't have a problem with people

that use homebrew and what-not.

ISOs, etc..

But I update to support Sony. They

try their hardest to stop pirated gaming

and they also try their hardest to

update there great product that we

bought with new features (rss, web

browser, etc..)

piracy, while not always a good thing per capita, is needed. or else sony would be charging alot per game. /. had an article a way back about how things would move in the software industry without piracy.

is it really that hard to browse to the file and bookmark it? Or code a little html page with links to all your flash games?

You'd be suprised how many emails i get about things not working cause the user has installed incorrectly, and well the bookmark thing just makes the whole process even more painless, no-one likes typing 20char+ addresses into the psp text entry system hehe

# piracyGuest 2006-06-02 05:21
it really gets me annoyed when people think that piracy is a problem for multinationals like sony.

less than 0.5% of psp owners have any idea what an iso is and i bet 50% of them buy the game half the time anyway as they can't be bothered with the trouble of downloading and installing it.

if you really think sony give 2 *****s about your measly £35 then you're living in a twisted reality.

did you know 93.8% of people maake up stats on the spot?

Lol, but i would like to say that i agree with what you are saying 1.5er.

Sony isn't bothered too much. They are bothered a little though or else they would not block us from writing our own stuff.

I think you mixed your numbers there...

"less than 0.5% of psp owners have any idea what an iso is and i bet 50% of them buy the game half the time anyway as they can't be bothered with the trouble of downloading and installing it."

Should be:

well i have only ever bought 3 games and i have 114 games iso are the best thing about the psp the games are poo.i have now got a 2gb sony duo so im supporting sony as well.

think about i8t sony what people to play iso other wise they would not have had duo card bigger enough to handle games iso's.

any1 and i dont care who you are when you say i dont wanna play free games you are a freak or a liar or jealous cuz you updated or you cant do the easiest thing the easiest thing in the world to play backup games.

this program is pretty pointless. I DONT see much point in using it. Its pretty simple to move flash games etc to the mem stick anyway.

# as if yall upgraded to support sonyGuest 2006-06-03 01:16
yall upgraded because yer either

A. dumb

B. had a 2.01+ to start with

if ya had a 1.5 at any time in yer life then ya would know it aint about piracy its about freedom to do what ya want to with YOUR property

i do think sony should stop all the iso torrentz cos thats what causes the problems

but the vast majoraty of homebrew i use is to personalize my psp

custom boot sounds, custom loadin screen, custom menu font

***** i can even have a custom menu if i want

then ofcourse if ya make ya games into iso's ya can fit multiple games on a mem stick and remove the annoyin intro movies and add custom soundtracks

1.5
