Psix Source Released!! |
Psix, without a doubt, is the most controversial piece of homebrew ever released onto our laps. It was announced just over a year ago, and has hit more bumps on the development road than Microsoft has had with Windows Vista. After all the delays, cancellations, and additions to the team – Psix became a highly wanted shell.
After psix was released, there was a lot of hate going around – but we all have passed that stage now. People complained that Fluff/Naoneo did not release the source; others applauded the first release such as myself. We all waited for the next release which would bring even more features, and we are still waiting for even more now.
Here at QJ, we are the first, and the only to receive the source to psix. Yes, that is right, I have the source to the famous shell right in my hands, just ready to be uploaded. The source code is something to marvel at – the complexity, the sheer size of the archive, and the thing that matters most – the code to the fist PSP shell ever announced. After having received permission from the main man himself – we are distributing the source to psix below.

Just like all other PSP Shells PSIX didnt offer the PSP scene anything other than an attempt to push a WIMP interface into a system that didnt need one.
It offered nothing to anyone. It was a pointless abberation in the world of PSP homebrew.
Who actually gives a crap, psix is the worst shell out there.
what's so special about this shell? just because it looks good?
2.80 Emulation DEVHOOK is out but on an underground website. I cant say where though but just search and use whatever engine your use to search for your desires.

everyone thinks ir shell is da best but to me the ultimate shell was file assistant, and it was on of the only shell that could play videos, whether it was mkv avi or mp4. i hate how file assistant is so over looked for that crappy shell called ir.
Ive never heard of file assistand, where does one get it?
Thanks to Fluff for releaseing his code. Hopefully the scene will do some good stuff with it. He certainly made a very slick looking shell. For all those people saying that other shells are better, just wait and see how this develops. Choice is good.
Not only was the source released but the source of the source is gone. Looks like this is the end of psix, psix exis and all the rest. go look the new forums are gone. Fluff musta been pissed off or something. See Fluff put up a contest on the site, with a $500usd reward if someone could figure out an encrypted picture, the deal was at first to pm fluff with your results to see if you were right, then after a few weeks became pissed off because there were too many pm's. Hence closed down the replies for the contest. Fluff is childish. After getting donators and possibly making those who thought they were friends she gets rid of it all.

Who the hell knows, it wasn't because of the attention by chance? can someone answer that?
I have but this little bit of advice:
If you are going to hype people up, expect the hype. Don't run scared or get pissed off at people over something you and you alone did!

IR is over-rated just like this psix shell. I couldn't help but laugh how the poster of this blog was creaming his pants over the divine holiness of the mighty pee-six shell.

Both of these shells are made by the biggest crybabies on the PSP scene, Fluff and AhMan.
These were the same guys who talked crap about Yoshihiro and SonyXteam and were the darlings of QJ before SonyXTeam, Booster and Dark_alex proved themselves.

Ir Shell was the most useful of the shells for the sole purpose you could browse and playback files from your computer via usb or wifi. I've used Psix but never actually found it useful.
Firstly, PSIX and IRShell are way different shells and AhMan has never done anything to justifiably upset anyone. In my (humble because I don't program anywhere near as well as Fluff or Ahman) opinion, IRShell is NOT overrated. It's almost underrated... and he doesn't cry about it (no where near as much as his users may). It started off as just a way to play mp3s in the background of homebrew and control IR devices. It just happened to become the best shell and an almost equal to FileAssistant.
Fluff made a good move here though guys. The announcement of Exis should have been enough. Get over your distaste of its origins and focus on the accomplishments made.
The SonyXteam don't even deserve what they get when they only lie and take every attempt at taking credit for others acheivements. (think WAB)
I hope this really doesn't mean the discontinuing of Exis. Fluff is a great programmer, but like some he needs more than just recognition for his hard work and couldn't trust the users to provide that without more motivation. He obviously went the wrong way about it, but find a way to pass the stick out of some of your butts. Take generosity and gifts for what their really worth.
And I've heard that sometimes his wife (maybe girlfriend, not sure) helps out too through the shared s/n.

They are dumb or rich and don't care, tell them they shouldn't but if they still do it then good for them, none of your business, why can't you just let it go? so what if fluff charged for the shell? don't pay, nobody force you to pay for the shell or forced you to like it, why do people have to start hate things? I'm sorry that : Psix sucked, that anyone ever had to part with a dime to access any aspect of it, that it took so long to never get finnished, and that it's now died.
Truth is, i hate psix, i hate it with every inch of my soul, for the past 5 or 6 months it's been nothing but a burden to me, last month was the last push to try and get things on track, and it seems all the push did was knock the car onto the wrong sides of the track, so this is the result, the crash.
i haven't released this source for any other reason but for it to be used by other developers, so hopefully something good, no matter how small, will come from this mammoth mistake, i want the year and a half of my life back, and i'm starting by saying a buck ***** you to psix, i hope developers can pick out some useful stuff, and let the rest rot in hell.
Sorry to you all for having to put up with this pointless bull***** all this time.

umm I highly doubt it that that was fluff, where's the angry banter and broken english that we've become used to. Hell in the psix forums, if you even dared ask about a release date, you were banned from the forums. IS THAT FAIR? NO! if you asked how things are proceeding, banned. I supported Psix in the begining, but it all seemed to be an ego booster for the fluffer, in the end. I gave up reading the site or even bother to post anymore there. Why bother I say? well nothing was ever being done. just a whole bunch of HYPE and thats all.psix could have been alot better if fluff had of been reasonable with its following. Alas you weren't Fluff and thats why people got fed up. To be an elitest you need to act like one, not like a jerk. IMO.

well, anyway, having given up on psix i say good for fluff... onto better things, new beginnings etc. i support whatever he has coming next.
i only ever banned one person on the forums, and that was harry for saying my daughter was "a mistake", which i believe is a completely justified reason.

in the end I suppose psix never lived to its full potential - possibly out of internal problems but probably also due to a general lack of support in the scene.
in a demographic composed primarily of 11-14 year old kiddies who want want want everything for free and on demand, it's pretty hard to please everyone. that said, the production value on psix is far higher than any other shell. sure psix isn't as functional, but the foundation it sets for itself is on a level completely different from everything else.
nonetheless, its the only logical decision to see whats been coming for a while: psix' death.

I just found the new Devhook site. Just search pspsoftware on google. You will come across a wiki. Follow the link in that to it. It seems they are still having legal trouble but who knows? They may just release it on a torrent site. They can't be touched there.

I am new to homebrew. I installed File Assistant and psix to my PSP. I let them battle it out by honestly trying to delete one shell from the other allowing 10 min per try. I even used psix first. Of course I found that psix is useless and that File Assistant deleted psix within about a minute. Guess its File Assistant all the way for me.

fluff was all talk and no delivery, now he is getting props for releasing the code... I mean come on, he said he would release it to an appropriate party to develop solely before releasing it widely - and what did he do, release it to a wide audience.
He is a hypocrit and can't be bothered finishing what he started due to a little flack - get over it and yourself. Don't praise the man for release the source - it's something he should have done in the beginning rather than charging $10 to write comments and read dribble on a site.
He doesn't support his forums in anyway shape or form, this is only backed up by his lack of delivery. It has been lies from the start... 2 releases a week... a release when he gets back from holiday... problems with audio bugs are fixed. I think I have seen 3 releases as a member and with little to rave about with each progression

Oh great stuff, what an appology, its just what everyone wanted to hear.... Now what about refunding people the money they paid you only to have the project die and the source that they paid for released to the public for free!! Not only do you have shaky ethics in charging people for homebrew but you let down everyone who paid you money! Its amazing, if Xbox turned round a year and a half after releasing the 360 and said "sorry everyone, this was a big mistake and were dropping support for the console. We really wish we could get the last year and a half back of our business year, no theres no refunds for your consoles AND were giving away all the xboxes we had in stock for anyoen to have and do what they want with" people would go nuts, fluff does it and its all sympathy and understanding. If youd just kept it free you wouldnt have this problem. Scene is free and has always been free and always should be free. Thats the point..free homebrew solutions to things sony cant do (or whatever company)... thats why we have scene.

Dont get me wrong, all the shells are pretty useless except for some of the streaming functions in IRshell but at least there not presumptious enouh to think that there shell warrants being paid for! How big headed do you have to be to think your homebrew and time is worth more than every other dev out there tirelessly working to bring FREE scene releases. Better free scene releases I might add.

did Fluff put a gun on your head and told you to give him/her money? I don't think so, if you gave Fluff money is because of your own stupidity because you could have waited some more time and download the public releases or you could go to a torrent site and download the pro release. This reminds a lot of the people that donated to Wab and Yoshi never released a downgrader. You should never give money for a piece of homebrew that is not stable(that is why I only donate money when at least the homebrew has been going for a long time or that it is stable like snes 9x or devhook.)

Those who have flamed Fluff may suffer consequences if they continue to do so. Fluff never told you - you have to buy this, heck we didn't even tell you you had to buy it - I suggested everyone try the free version first! Yes, that's right - Psix was ALWAYS FREE!!!

S'all very strange, fluff gives up developing for this app and then wab are back on the scene.. we shall see what develops, but I wouldn't be surprised if they join forces - seen as their ethics are as low as whale *****.
I don't care if we see our money back, it's just unfortunate for scene developers, I know I won't be donating to a project unless it has a good roadmap and stable current release thats for sure.

you can't have it both ways, i continued to complain just like i always had done. i didn't believe in one piece of homebrew claiming to be worth money while others were free, but there you have it, it was your decision to pay - and you should have known the risks. the fact is homebrew has no contracts to sign or trading standards, you support it out of the goodness of your heart and you must deal with what happens after.
you got fluff's hard work, it may not have lived up to your expectations but how often does anything in life fully do so?
learn your lesson, I stood up for what i thought was right back in the beginning, i made these points but those who thought it unimportant paid anyway... that's you... and you have to live with it.

Its the incessant flaming from the likes of Macleod and gang that pushed Fluff to the limit. As a matter of fact, this entire comments section is all the evidence one would really need to see why Fluff is leaving.
And for the f'ing record: PSIX Pro members bought access to beta builds + access to the forums.
Beta as in, preliminary builds before it got public. Not, as the longwinded comment a bit above me said - to the source code.
That said, PSIX Pro members did get their hands on beta builds of psix and more before PSIX turned open.
So, a long overdue f*ck you to the psp scene :)
PSIX IMO was a serious problem in the homebrew scene, and im glad its has been laid to rest. Never has there been a developer and program that got on so many peoples nerves. Not becasue the shell was good/bad, but becasue this was the first time a developer tried to make money off of homebrew. (Then try and justify it by saying its for forum access, to keep it constuctive..blah blah. Just a bunch of BS)
Charging for software that you used freely distributed homebrew tools to make is wrong. If you want to make money (Or charge for "Forum Access") you have to buy the proper SDK, and licensing rights from Sony.
Looking up, seriously #94, get a clue. The reason he quit is becasue he couldnt do what was promised/hyped etc. And hes trying to save face. Nothing more. Fluff gets no simpathy from me.
Im sorry but everyone who thinks that Fluff quit becasue of the PSP scene needs to open there eyes. Fluff can only blame himself, he dug his own grave. And the problems the scene had with PSIX were FLuffs own doing.

Ok, so you have appologised and ppl have payed you $10 each for the Beta build, but about you wasting your time, I disagree and feel sorry for you.
Instead of giving up you should seriously think again, this has great potential to integrate alot of homebrew all into one package, and if I were you I would contact the scene and ask for help to complete this project, even if it takes time.
The best thing that you can do is complete it and send the full version to your loyal customers.
Dont give up, you will have learned many lessons during the time you have been working on PSIX, and there is always room to learn more.
Im sure ppl will help you if you really wanted it to work in the end. So start working on finding a group of devs to help you on your quest to glory.
Make us proud, we still appreciate the time you have put in but dont give up your almost there.
Your Plan:
1) Get a group of Devs.
2) Review and explain the program, Shell and
Coding and what you want out of it in the end.
3) Work on project.
4) Run into problems! Release your work and ask
for more help.
5) Beta testers slag the work youve done till you
feel sick.
6) Go back to work and fix the bugs and problems.
7) Is it working perfectly or near perfection?
Yes: Go to step 9
No : Go to step 8
9) Release it and ask for what else the scene wants integrated into the shell.
10) Work hard again until everyone is happy.

Fluff can't continue this project unless the dev team wants to, which I frankly do not think will happen. Fluff did not quit because he wants to stop it all, it's more like - the devs haven't been keeping up with Fluff's plans of the overall project - nothing seems to get accomplished.
Fluff has tried to give rebirth to Psix several times after its death a while ago, but all attempts have failed and resulted in nothing
they spelled first wrong
I don't even know why I am defending myself, but none of my 'rants' at fluff have ever been biased or unjust. I am afriad that in a business world you have expectations based on technical details and timescales - neither of these aspects where met after several statement to pro users.

I paid for it because I believed in it and I felt that the developers would be going somewhere with it, as I knew about the OS about 6 months before it was released, naoneo/fluff had shots up on his site. My expectations were unjustly high - and that is my fault, since I thought they had been developing for six months prior to initial release.

All my flaming has only been about unaccomplished claims by the developers. If you aren't going to do something, don't state it, you state it and you will get shot down if expectations are not met - it's how the world works.

yea psix looks great, the art is amazing, but it never provided any real functionality and no other shells have either except IRshell which does everything even with its simple interface.
There have been many amazing shells in the past that peoepl dont realzie are shells or even exists! Allow me to begin with fielassistant:
- Fileassistant++ is a nice looking shell that began with a VERY simple, two dual menu interface for file browsing and manipulation. It evolved to a full fledged shell by being able to view images, play mp3s, view text files, execute PBPs, copy, rename, delete files, and even play .swf files! an amazing application, very sad it isnt updated anymore.. :(
- PSP PDA is an amazing program that started out as a simple LUA text editor. Even in its first stages it was great, it was then ported over to C and then got many more features like a calandar that can set dates and appointments and save its settings, an alarm clock, address book, FULL FLEDGED TEXT EDITOR with OSK (its really amazing, a must have homebrew for the PSP), calculator, photo viewer, music player (play music while viewing photos and while typing stuff!!), and many other PDA LIKE APPLICATIONS THAT MAKE THIS JUST ONE OF THE BEST HOMEBREWS, its really a shame so amny people ahve never heard of it and that it also has stopped being updated.. :(
- DJSP wasnt a full shell but it is an amazing mp3 player with 7 awesome visuals! It also had a lua player built in to allow playing games while listening to music! Sadly this is another no longer updated homebrew, but I actually knwo why it isnt updated anymore, but I wont get into that.. Just go download the last versino and enjoy it! ;)
I woudl love to beat the ***** out of that ass*****s who lied abotut hat *****!! Thye screwed Andy Fung out of his DJSP code and now eh cant wokr on it cuz those asswads own the code!! >.< I would knock them into next week cuz DJSP is one of the best hoembrews eveer! And imagining what it coudl be if it was still beign update today.. oh my god.. i dont even want to think fo what we could have by now cuz it just akes me horribly sad....

Many thanks for releasing the source code, i'm sure it will be helpfull for many coders. But i wonder on which kind of license you release it ? Is it a real copy-left license such as the BSD one, is it compatible with the GPL or LGPL ?

Like many PSP homebrew users I have no knowledge of how these programs come into existence. I know just enough to get them from QJ (or whatever) onto my PSP. All I care about is functionality. I still use File assistant++ and PSPPDA although not as frequently as IRShell.
I tried Psix once and found that other than the fact that it was more attractive than other shells I used, it offered little else. I'm not knocking the creator(s), I just didn't find it usefull. As a matter of fact, I appreciate the creator(s) effort as I do All Homebrewers efforts. Since I am incapable of creating my own programs, I rely totally on the efforts of others. The fact that the creator(s) have released the code will hopefully help someone in some way with regards to future homebrew on the PSP.
Too often I read people's (which I assume to be spoiled children) comments on here demanding this and/or that of homebrewers who owe us nothing. Sometimes they are just complaining about programs that they say are useless or what have you, but they are always wrong. It is unfair and childish to put expectations onto something of which you have no control over. If one can do better, by all means, do so, but don't whine about something that is born of others efforts and given away for free. That really irritates me.
I would like to thank all those who make homebrew and therefore make my PSP's worth every penny I spent on them.
