PRX Loader for 2.71 SE

kingofalleet tells us that Eiffel56 announced the PRX Loader for 2.71 SE over at the German Portable News forums. Now because of the intricacies of translation from German to English by weblator, we can't tell if this was from before or after he bricked his PSP from before (for no apparent reason). Well, if it's after, not only do we feel happy that he now has a running PSP again, but that "I tested the whole extensively, before I mean PSP gebricked have. And it functioned marvelously."

Still, as with all homebrew-that-loves-to-flash in life, "
NO warranty, it uses nevertheless on OWN DANGER!!!" (And from the Readme) "AT THIS POINT, WE WRITE TO FLASH0!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, IT COULD B R I C K YOUR PSP!" Gott in himmel. Gott schützen unser PSPs.

Caveat emptor: Eiffel56's "Nose list" - we think he means "bugs." You know, like weblators are so buggy.
  • Those config is sometimes not accepted. That config parsing module is something Buggy. Take best config from the VSH the Extender and change according to desire.
  • Not all PRXe functioning. I successfully tested VSH Extender and AIOMOD2 at that time.
More details from Eiffel56's forum post in the original German at the Via link. Let's hope your weblator's better than ours. Thanks kingofalleet!

UPDATE: We just love the QJ readers...always ready to help their fellow PSP users. Niklas Kunkel (thanks a bunch!!!) has just sent in a much, much better translation of what Eiffel56 has to say about his PRX Loader. According to Niklas' translation, this app has been tested by Eiffel56 before his PSP got bricked.

Also translated was the installation instruction, which I'm sure most of you have been wanting to know about. And Niklas translates:
  1. Extract the folders MS_ROOT to your memory stick.
  2. If you start your 1.50 homebrews out of GAME150 you have to change it!
  3. After this you just start the installer.
  4. Make sure your battery is full enough, and attach the AC cable.
  5. The installation is fast and easy.
  6. The installer can unflash the whole thing.
By the way, the "Nose list", which we first thought was a bugs list, was actually instructions on how to use PRX Loader. And the instructions are as follows:
  • First you have to configure the whole thing. This is just like in the custom firmware. ThatÂ’s why I use Dark_AlexÂ’s.config parsing Routing.
  • For best test results take the VSH Extender for the custom firmware. There is a config file with it and this config file must be in /PSP/SYSTEM.
  • When its done, go to your network update icon. This is from now on your PRX Loader! Wait for a second and your PRX will be loaded!
There you have it. Hope that helped. And Niklas...you are heaven sent! =)

» PSP piracy has gotten out of control, gamers will eventually suffer the most

Let's look at an example. Lego Star Wars 2 for the PSP sold around 15,000 units in October. A meta search of bit torrent sites shows that at the moment more than 500 people are seeding or leeching this game. The number of people who downloaded the game through illegal means must be well into the thousands. If you don't think this has an effect on sales, you are crazy. Even the sub-par DS version was able to sell more.

These poor software sales, which aren't helped by rampant piracy, will eventually lead to developers abandoning the PSP. Therefore, this will hurt real gamers the most.

I translated it here guys.

Hi

Maybe the first thread has been bumped down a bit, Maybe no one is interested, but I will place the whole thing fresh up again.

With this program, its about the PRX loader for firmware 2.71 SE. PRX data are modules, that in essence can be reloaded. The users of the custom firmware will know this. With this you can load the VSH Extender Loader. I have the tested the whole thing BEFORE MY PSP GOT BRICKED. And it work wonderfully. But No guaranteed, you use this at your own risk.

Installation:

Extract the folders MS_ROOT to your memory stick.

If you start your 1.50 homebrews out of GAME150 you have to change it!

After this you just start the installer.

Make sure your battery is full enough, and attach the AC cable.

The installation is fast and easy.

The installer can unflash the whole thing.

Using

First you have to configure the whole thing.

This is just like in the custom firmware. That’s why I use Dark_Alex’s.config parsing Routing.

For best test results take the VSH Extender for the custom firmware.

There is a config file with it and this config file must be in /PSP/SYSTEM.

When its done, go to your network update icon. This is from now on your PRX Loader! Wait for a second and your PRX will be loaded!

if it actually affected the developers will to make a game, it would have to be because i physically stole a game.

it may be copy righted material, but what we have access to is 1 copy of 1 game, therefore it is being shared. not *****ing stolen.

I'm running SE B'' on mine as well, and am now having issues booting. No worries, recovery works, I'm sure it's as simple as reflashing the .txt files or even reflashing 271SE-B2 again. I'll post again when I fix it - Kenny, hold R when you boot. If recovery comes up you're not bricked yet, just make sure you don't keep screwing around until you are. Bedtime for me, then work. It'll be a while before I post again.

» retarded 12 year olds

If YOU studied harder, you would know that if you stole a UMD, the developers wouldn't be hurt by it at all, the store you stole it from would. They already payed for it. Downloading them, however means less sales for the stores, which in turn discourages them to buy more from the developers, and directly hurts them. Good game, genius.

P.S. Capitalization is taught to you in like what, elementary school? I think that shows your intelligence level right there.

your best friend, it is stealing. It is essentially taking someone else's intellectual property illegally what everyone else i spaying for. it is illegal to rip/hack/download intellectual property that does not belong to you and share it over the internet. It is like going to a game store and grabbing a umd and shoving it down your pants.

by Wes - 2006-11-15 01:53
» re

Iso download will only affect sales by a small amount. Do you think that every person that seeds or downloads an iso would have bought the game if the iso wasn't available. No, they would just do without because they don't want to dish out the money. I've download over 100 psp iso and maybe 20 of them I liked. There is no way I would purchase all 20 UMDs even if the iso wasn't available.

I'm fluent in German and I read the forum, from the looks of things he said "I've tested this whole thing extensively, Until i bricked my PSP, yada yada yada" (HE bricked his PSP, not this app!)

» Even the sub-par DS version was able to sell more

The DS has just as much, if not more piracy than the Psp. Not only that but there are not firmware blocks or security fixes to prevent it. Pirating Lego Starwars 2 on the DS is as simple as downloading and flashing to a cart. The difference is Nintendo make money from DS hardware sales, apparently Sony do not.

by blah - 2006-11-15 04:08
» piracy rant

how did this get turned into some anti-piracy rant? well i agree that those that download don't intend to buy anyway. if the iso wasn't there, they wouldn't get the game. so there's no lost sales. those were sales they never would have got to begin with. secondly the person using lego star wars as a example. that game was also released on other consoles at the same time. i own a ps2 and a psp. the graphics and controller of the ps2 are superior to the psp. if i have to choose between a game on my ps2 and psp, i get it for ps2. i'm sure others do the same. a lot of psp games have not sold as well as they should have. it's not because of piracy, it's because the majority of psp games suck ass. period. if you paid for some of the horrible psp games that have been released well then i feel sorry for you. i think the vast majority of people that complain about others downloading are just people that have purchased a crap game just to find out that it's a crap game.

historically the console 'scenes' were focused around 2 categories, homebrew and piracy. both have overlapped each other, such as the psp 'scene'. fan sites are not true 'scene sites'. they're bull***** like this site with game reviews and ***** that nobody cares about. every console to date has had its fair share of piracy and its respected scene. the psp is no different and it doesn't matter how much you complain or post your opinions about the negative effects of piracy, it's not going to change. you're just preaching down from your soap box to an empty audience. so if that gets your jollies off, be my guest...but it's not going to make a difference.

What is the relevancy of this? This isn't an article about .ISO downloading OR Lego Star Wars II you d**che bag, so how is this even a relevant comment? Oh, and, if you don't care about this 'news' then move on. This website isn't about the news that you, and only you care about, it's news that the entire PSP community could possibly care about. So, next time you feel like posting try coming up with something to say that is both positive AND relevant.

and for example, I have cwcheat, gtaCheatDev, mp3lib so far in my flash..

so if we go too far, it may end up in a dead-end, with a wall, made of.. u know.. bricks ;)

» explained better

this really needs to be explained in more detail does this mean we can load prx mods just as we did with the custom firmware poc? eg editing the config file in system bu then to load them you have to use the network update icon!? i think thats what i managed to make of it but im still not sure. does this basically mean we can load prx's like gta vcs cheat device without flashign it ???????????? anyone works it out plz answer lol

by covandy - 2006-11-15 08:09
» correct

it is as i thought just in case anyone else wonders what this is it is basically a custom module loader that uses modules without them being flashed. You use this by creating the connfig file as in custom firmware poc and enabling the mods such as mp3 mod or cheat device mod or overclocking modules. the onyl downside is that they are not activated on startup so you must activate the modules by selecting the network update icon in the xmb....

» explaination....

....you know like when we had the cuwtom firmware for 1.5 (the hold left button to boot devhook...etc) all those plugins started to come along where you could set you clock speed from the xmb...etc. This is like that you can now customize 2.71 se b to the point of having things like VSH (which allows cpu clock speed changes from xmb), however i thouhgt you could do this anyway by editing the txt files that tell the firmware which prx's to load and then flashing them from the recovery menu....maybe this is an easy installer for prxs to save you editing the txt files

» WHOS FAULT IS IT THAT THERE IS PIRACY????

LETS GET AFEW THINGS STRAIGHT HERE:

1. IF THE PRICE OF GAMES, SOFTWARE , AUDIO AND VIDEO MEDIA WAS A REASONABLE PRICE IN THE FIRST PLACE PRIACY WOULDN'T BE IN THE STITUATION IT IS.

2. I LIKE MOST RUN ISOS. THIS IS DOWN TO THE FACT OF HOW MANY DO YOU KEEP AND PLAY OVER AND OVER. (OUT OF ALL THE PSP GAMES THAT HAVE BEEN RELEASED SINCE LAUNCH THERE ARE ONLY 8 THAT SPRING TO MIND THAT I HAVE KEPT AND REPLAYED)

3. THE INDUSTRY PLOUGHS MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS INTO ADVERTISING AND HYPING A CRAP PRODUCT. (CAUSING PEOPLE TO GET SUCKED INTO THEIR BRAIN WASHING EXERCISE AND PURCHASE SOMETHING THEY ONLY PLAY ONCE)

LOOK HOW MANY FILM TRAILER YOU SEE ON TV/INTERNET AND THINK YEAH THAT LOOKS GOOD, BUT WHEN YOU COME TO WATCHING IT YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE BEST BITS IN THE TRAILER.

4. OH AND LETS NOT FORGET SONY. EVERY UMD IS MANUFACTURED BY THEM AND LICENSED BY THEM THATS GENERATING MORE MONEY FOR THEM (MONEY FOR NOTHING) SONY PUT PRESSURE ON THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPING COMPANIES TO DEVELOPE SOFTWARE FROM THEM GENERATING YET AGAIN MORE MONEY FOR SONY.

LET JUST CAST OUR MINDS BACK AFEW YEARS FOR THOSE WHO ARE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER. SONY ADMITTED AT THE PLAYSTATION 1 WAS THE BIGGEST SELLING CONSOLE AND WHY ??? GOING BACK TO WHERE I STARTED OFF BECAUSE EVERYBODY WAS RUNNING COPIES (ITS A F.U.C.K.I.N RIP OFF) AT A GUESS I BET THAT 85 - 95 PERCENT OF PEOPLE THAT USE THIS WEBSITE ARE RUNNING ISOS, BUT LETS NOT FORGET AINT SONY MAKING ANY MONEY FROM THE PSP HARDWARE...HHhhMMmmmmmmmmm

» explaination....confirmation

yes I am right, remember dark_a's original POC custom firmware for 1.5? remember the config.txt file where you could "add" your own prx's by adding a line like "loadmodule0 = "ms0:/vshex.prx " well this is the same. What you do is extract the archive to your mem stick, run the eboot and it will install a permanent memory resident prx. Then you create a file called "config.txt" in PSP\SYSTEM and add in a line like I mentioned above (loadmodule0= "ms0:/vshex.prx) in will then allow you to run the prx plugins you used to use in 1.5 with the Dark_ Alex POC custom firmware.

I WOULD NOT SUGGEST EVER USING THIS THOUGH, IT APPEARS IT ONLY ALLOWS YOU TO LOAD USER MODE PRX'S. SO IF YOU TRY TO USE A PRX THAT IS HEAVILY KENEL MODE DEPENDANT, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT INTERGRATES WITH/ ADDS FEATURES TO THE XMB AS IT MAY APPEAR TO BRICK YOU PSP, BUT OBVIOUSLEY YOU CAN RECOVER VIA RECOVERY CONSOLE

» Issues solved?

I've managed to de-'brick' my PSP, but I'm not sure if it was ever really bricked. This little thing is buggy due to hardware issues, so I may have been running into those. The easiest way to de-'brick' once this app causes issues is to get ahold of the .txt files from another PSP running the SAME VERSION of 2.71SE-B (B2, b3) and put them in ms0:/reflash (kd first, then kn - if you don't know what I'm talking about you'll need to dig a bit) and reflash them to the PSP. I only had to reflash my 1.50 stuff.. Then, to be safe, I re-flashed SE-B, upgraded my way to SE-B''. Again, my issues could easily have been the buggy PSP - I'll try it on my GOOD PSP next.

by Danin - 2006-11-15 16:58
» config.txt file

And for those of you who have had issues figuring out what to do with this, I've so far only tested it with VSHExtender v0.1 - available by download from qj.net:

http://dl.qj.net/VSHExtender-v0.1-for-1.50-with-Custom-Firmware-PSP/pg/12/fid/8921/catid/114

From there, you can easily add other PRX files from various locations, including the MP3 player PRX files, and perhaps the cheat devices as well. As I experiment, I'll likely post, but my primary attempts will involve the more modern VSHEX mods, because they're just that sexy.

» actually...

this not only makes it easier but it stores the prxs on the memory stick and not the flash. this makes it to where you only have to flash your firmware files once then use the text file to direct the firmware to the new prxs on your memory stick. I prefer this form of loading because it has a much lower rate of bricking your psp and keeps the flash clean.

by aguy - 2006-11-16 08:35
» just follow these steps

1. Create a new text file in PSP\SYSTEM\

2. Name it CONFIG.TXT

3. Add lines that look like this:

loadmodule0 + "ms0:\blablabla.prx"

#loadmodule1 + "ms0:\blablabla.prx"

#loadmodule2 + "ms0:\blablabla.prx"

4. Lines that begin with "#" are ignored.

» Uhm, no?

C.G - No, it's not. And do us all a favor, talk like an at least post-pubescent human, not like one would assume a two year old would speak. This is not an application that will allow you to load ISOs "THAT" "ARE" (you mean require, I assume) 2.71 or above - Devhook does that. This is an application that allows you to load PRX files into the running kernel, for extended features. For example, the MP3 player modules that allow music to be played while browsing the XMB, web, etc.
