If you're worried about someone accidentally viewing your unmentionables (files, we mean) on your PlayStation Portable, you might want to try installing a password protection system into your handheld. A good example of this would be developer MaxTheBest's homebrew application, Protect Me.

This simple yet efficient homebrew app is wrapped around a PRX plugin, which prompts the user to enter a password before granting access to the XMB. The latest build clocked at version 0.91 includes added security features, as well as fixes some bugs noted in the previous versions.

Anyway, here are the complete details of the new changes implemented in Protect Me v0.91:
  • Now when the intruder inputs 3 wrong password, an alarm will be played to alert you about the thief.
  • Some bugs corrected.
For more details on how to install the app, you can check out the Readme.txt documentation included with the file bundle. In any case, we hope you find the latest version of Protect Me useful. Enjoy!

» Does this still not work at ALL??!?!?!

Here is a good follow up question the previous one:

does this fix the bug where this program has absolutely no security?

What? you mean this can still be bypassed simply by entering the M33 menu and disabling the plugin and then rebooting? And it can still be bypassed also by simply removing the memory card, booting up, then putting the card back in?

This is a useless waste of time. Until this can install to the internal memory and can not be bypassed by removing the memory card or disabling the plugin, then you are simply wasting all of our time. This is like putting a sticker on your front door that says, "Protected by ADT" and a sign on your gate that says, "BEWARE OF DOG", but you really don't have ADT service and you don't own a dog.

Sure, the appearance of security is better than no security, but this is simply a JOKE!

Even if its fully protected by installing in flash, such that recovery is not accessible, you can still get around it by writing a plugin that removes it from flash. Just enable the plugin on your memory stick using another psp, then put it in the locked psp and turn it on.

» I have to concur

My only hope is that my friends, or anyone who gets a hold of my psp doesn't have enough brains to know where the recovery menu is and hopefully they don't use the memory stick bypass........need updates for this homebrew!
