Prometeus v0.9.5b |
Ó
Operating systems Mac and Windows are like apples and oranges (Pun intended? Probably). So when it comes to using them with our dear PSP handhelds, we've got to have different homebrew applications. Take for example PSX2PSP from developer KingSquitter. It's for Windows, yes, but it also has its Mac counterpart as well.
We've actually reported on Prometeus before. Created by Dago^WATT, the application allows for manipulating PSX games and making them compatible with 3.02 OE. Accordingly, there was a rather nasty problem in the previous release, which would sometimes generate a defunct EBOOT when performing the conversion.
The bug is now, of course, fixed not to mention that the conversion and the games themselves run faster. In case you guys are interested, there is actually a somewhat Pro version of the application that can be obtained by donating one dollar to Dago^WATT. The Read link below will take you to the developer's personal page. The Pro version, lastly, has these following features:
- Create folder with Game Name, automatically copy there KEYS.BIN and EBOOT.PBP.
- Allow different PNG sizes (but not allow bigger than max size) except BACKGROUND.PNG (it has fix size).
- When you change Game ID Number or Game Name you don't have got to press Enter. (Just Press Start button).
- Live preview.
- Unpack / pack PBP files.
- Supports direct CD-ripping.

direct cd ripping is what sony should have allowed from the start, the fools. All hail the homebrew!
how do you work the direct cd ripping??
i dunno how
u need to get the full version of the app by donating a buck to the author
i dowloaded this earlier and converted two games in like 30 minutes it works really fast and both game were running great thanks watts =)
Is this only for mac? Is that what the article writer was trying to say?
Yes, that's what the article is trying to say. This is a Mac OS X tool which will convert PSX games so as they would be compatible with the 3.02 OE format. Hope we answered your question. :)
This ugrade is great! But does anyone know how to get a game id to show up in the "PSX->PSP" window? I'm trying to convert resident evil 2 (leon's disk) but it won't let me start it cuz the game id box is empty and i can't click it to change it. Does anyone have any ideas?
i had the same problem. chances are the game is ripped. that happenes to me sometimes when i try and convert a ripped game. you might have to try and find onother iso.
Does this handle the CDDA issues when direct-ripping a game? In other words, since it's not using a disk image (say a bin that has the audio data in it but can't read the data because of the lack of cue file support in Popstation, resulting in no music in-game) will this make eboots that play their cdda music on the PSP? if so, I'd gladly donate the buck.
Can this be used on old G5s?
so this means that i will never use it cause im usin windows???
thanks gta2800. that's so strange cuz my game isn't ripped. I converted it from the actual psx cd. I don't know what to do now.
Fortunately enough, this is a Universal Binary. It'll work on OS X systems running on even G3 processors, and fortunately it's not too heavy on the CPU, so even a Powerbook Pismo is decent enough to run this app.
Yeah, you'll never get to use it because you're using Windows. Just like you'll never be able to use ffmpegX, iSquint, Disco, or Comic Life. Unless someone designs something like a reverse DarWine.
But stop complaining, you get the exact same tools we get, with the exact same functions (for the most part). The only difference is that we get a decent GUI in exchange for the programs being a little harder to find, and in exchange for not having a bazillion clones of it.
Thank God that QJ is finally reporting on some OS X tools. I ran accross Prometeus a while ago, but never heavily used it. Now that I have 30.2 OE-B, I'm finding it immensely useful. Now, if only it supported compression...
All we need now is for QJ to start giving us some Linux news, and we'll be set. However, given how Windows-centric this place still is, I doubt that'll happen any time soon.
just releas the pro version
i dont have a credit card so how am i supposed to get it??
i want it
