PReSS v0.4 - full integration with http 1.1 pages, now more stable |
Ó
There are times it can get quite bothersome having to drag a newspaper everywhere you go just to keep up with current events. Thankfully, developer The Underminer (Nino van Hooff) was able to come up with a neat PlayStation Portable homebrew app, which wraps up all the important information you'll ever need off the 'Net into convenient, bite-sized RSS feeds.
The latest build, version 0.4, now supports full integration with http 1.1 pages and is now more stable due to the reusing of connections. For more details on the other changes implemented since our previous coverage of PReSS, you can check out the latest changelog taken from the Readme.txt file:
version 0.4 - 31 May 2008
- Full integration of http 1.1
- More stable due to reuse of connections
- Speed up through higher CPU speed. To compensate; the speed is lowered when idle.
- The playing song now displays at the bottom of the screen
- 2 major bugs fixed, and some minor ones
Also, any corrupt images tended to lock up your PSP from time to time. Should this happen, just reboot your handheld and restart the program from the XMB. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved in future releases of PReSS.
To give you a better idea of how the application works, we've provided a video of PReSS in action below. For more information regarding the installation process and the program's different controls, please read the documentation included in the file bundle.

Comments [refresh]
Wow, it took QJ some time to find out; I notified them the 29th of May. Compensated though by a lengthy article
The crashing due to corrupted images hasn't been a problem since v0.3 but in theory it's still possible. The unsupported characters is only problematic for non-english feeds wich contain characters with accents like Ç and Ë.
