Portable Meditation Engine - 02/05 Update

Psilocybeing from our forums has released yet another update to his popular Portable Meditation Engine homebrew application for the PSP. There have been no version numbers, but each release is dated - which seems like a better idea because it is being updated so quickly!

Portable Meditation engine plays sounds to influence your state of mind. The application is based on a program called Brain Wave Generator for the PC, and uses Binaural beats to influence your state of mind. This release (Updated 02/05) gets rid of some of the distortion issues users were experiencing with earlier versions of the application. There is still a little bit of distortion, but with some good headphones it should sound pretty clear.

After trying this application last night when I was going to sleep, I'm happy to say that it actually works. Although I generally don't believe that things like this work, using it helped me get to sleep, and I woke up feeling a lot better than I do most mornings. Maybe it was the program, maybe it was a coincidence, but I do suggest that even if you don't believe in this sort of stuff - give it a try!

Also, look forward to even more releases. The screenshot above is a draft for a new style currently being worked on by Psilocybeing - keep up the good work.

Always listen to music when trying to sleep, maybe this works better.

And yes, sleeping with an PSP isnt the easiest thing to do, never know where it is when waking up.

# presets have timersGuest 2006-05-02 09:10
most of the presets have a timer, and there is a bar at the bottom of the screen

perhaps this would be a great moment to shut down the psp ??

Psylocybeing... I don't know how you keep em comin out but it sure is sweeet. I havent tried this one yet but it looks cool and it sounds like there might still be a problem with freedom flight.

Anyway i'm tryin it now so thanks again for such a quick update.

Quick question, is there any way to add visuals to this? Something simple like windows media player? It would be sweet to something to space out into.

Sorry, my mistake.

to 17, there probably is a way to put these into mp3 but the point of them is that they play for hours without stoping if you let them. This is to allow you to meditate or fall asleep without worrying about restarting them. So you could record these out but they would be massive files.

I tried this to sleep and I slept very well, only getting up was hard in the morning... In the next days I will try the other sounds, I hope you didn't do any mistakes, not that I fell asleep during work instead to "get power" :-)

I have know Idea what you are talking about but I would think that Psilocybeing refers to psilocybin which is found in magic mushrooms

Mushrooms forever! ;) I can't wait for the June gathering at Stonehenge, it's going to really funky!

If you experience distortion with this version I'm sorry, the mixing that I thought was sorted is infact still not perfect. I'll continue to work on it to sort out the flaws.

The next version will include an option in the loop parameter telling PME to shut the PSP down after so many loops by forcing an exception.

# Why turn it off?Guest 2006-05-02 12:33
In regards to an auto shut-off, I thought the whole point of listening to these kinda sounds was to subconciously influence your brain into a state of deep relaxation, which should then be sustained for the whole time you are asleep. Why then make it shut off once you are asleep. Surely you want to keep the whole concept going throughout the whole night?

Dunno. The sure thing is that I woke up really late.

Think I will need more time with this, hehe

And I agree with the post above, think the sleep mode (freedom flight or something) could be little bit longer.

# The new "Freedom Flight" is awfulGuest 2006-05-03 05:45
Why did you change the Freedom Flight Frequency?? It used to be my favorite one, because it was so relaxing. But now I can't stand it anymore. The sound that has been added, sounds a little bit like a broken helicopter or that Velociraptor from JurassicPark, which aren't adorable sounds. Please undo that earache causing mistake and avoid any similar sounds in fututre updates.

I'm still trying to figure out where the mixing is going wrong. I agree that the old Freedom Flight was amazing, and I'm trying everything I can to get it back. Please bare with me :)

Alright then ;). I personally don't understand anything about that frequency mixing stuff. That's wasted on me. You know that's one of those things where I wish I spent more attention in school :) .
