PMP Mod AVC

Just recently, Jonny released a variant of his PMP Mod homebrew application for the PSP. Thanks to PMF Player author magiK's help, the AVC capabilities have been unlocked, allowing Jonny's now famous player to support AVC video format. By converting AVC files to .PMP movie format via the included muxer, firmware 1.5 users now have the power to play AVC movies without having to upgrade to 2.0+.

Jonny now comes with a new version of this PMP Mod variant. V1.01 still has a reduced set of options vis-a-vis the original PMP Mod, but Jonny promises to implement the full set of options on his upcoming releases. To convert files to the PMP format, there is still the included muxer where width, height, and fps of the video need to be specified. But since x264 has been patched to write a file with the width, height, and fps of the video, normally, you would not need to provide the info manually.

Maximum resolution is at 480x272, where width/height is divisible by 16. The latest version runs at 120MHz and 20% of battery is consumed for a 2-hour movie.

Just like any of Jonny's projects, the source code is also available so you can modify the application to your liking. If you'd like to give this a go, the downloads are below. Jonny provides the controls while playing:

triangle = exit
o = toggle osd

square = pause/play
left/right = rw/ff
x + left/right = faster rw/ff

up/down = change volume
select = cycle audio streams

left/right triggers = change luminosity
start = cycle aspect ratios
x + up/down = zoom up/down

Thanks Spaz for the heads up!

Changes Are?

I would rather not have to download a file just to read a changelog. perhaps you could provide that as well. thank you :)

AVC

"By converting AVC files to .PMP movie format via the included muxer, firmware 1.5 users now have the power to play AVC movies without having to upgrade to 2.0+." 1.5 users can play AVC already...just use devhook to load the firmware.

AVC

@#2 Yes, but the sony firmware will not allow you to play full-resolution, UMD quality AVC.

Convert DVD

Hey guys If I convert a dvd to pmp I allways get the error "total number of frames doesn't match the number of frames found" And it has to do something with the video and audio are not the same size or something. any1 of you have had this problem? I have used pmen and mencoder both use the muxer 2.0 if I'm not mistaken... And help would be super! :-)

blerrrrgh

If he could make a demuxer that could handle UMD mps files that would be impressive...........

What?

Shouldn't it be 120MHz (MegaHertz) not 120mHz (MilliHertz). Sorry, but as an engineer that just annoys the hell out of me.

Benefits of PMP Mod AVC over Devhook/Sony Firmware

+Full-resolution AVC video +Better battery life Sony firmware only does 368x208 or 320x240. PMP Mod can output 480x272 (the whole PSP screen)

Awesome!!!

I've been using the pmp mod avc for a few days now, and I think it is awesome. The file size is smaller and the quality is better for the same bitrate as the original pmp. Also I checked with irshell, and it says that it is running at 119 MHz. I'm using XviD4PSP_3_1_0_7 to encode my videos, has anyone found any different programs with more options.

Great work!

This is some great work johny! (also magiK, raphael, *****yD*****69, etc.!) Been following PMP since the beginning here (JiniCho's release) As mentioned above, PMP Mod shows 480x272 movies in NATIVE PSP res. Looking a lot better than Sony's FW video player which downsizes video to 368x208 or 320x240. Great progress too, battery life can last for hours now, allowing us to watch several movies on a single battery charge :-D Keep it up devs!

What audio are you supposed to use? MP3?

question on how to use this

How do we install the x.h264 file? is it a plugin for virtual dub mod?

XviD4PSP_3_1_0_7

Is it just me, or does it seem like XviD4PSP_3_1_0_7 take a heck of a long time to encode a video? A 24 minute episode of GITS: SAC takes about an hour to encode. Are my settings messed up or something? I encoded another video @ a 900 bitrate, and it only took 30 minutes for another 24 minute video.....same settings ast the GITS episode I encoded....

video encoding tools

besides Xvid, what other video encoding formats can create a h264 file that we can then put into the muxer?
