PMP Mod AVC

Jonny has released an updated version of his PMP Mod AVC homebrew AVC media player for the PSP. This version of his original PMP Mod allows firmware 1.5 users to play full resolution, high-quality AVC movie files converted using the PMP AVC Muxer without having to upgrade to firmware 2.0+ or use DevHook.

Just two days after the last PMP Mod AVC release comes this version which fixes some sound problems such as random pops that were mainly audible with headphones and adds a new requested feature - a loop option which can be toggled on and off using x + right trigger. To convert files into the PMP format, there is an included muxer where width, height, and fps of the video need to be specified. However, since x264 has been patched to write a file with the width, height, and fps of the video, normally, you do not need to provide the info manually.

As with all of Jonny's high quality homebrew releases, he has also released the source code for developers and coders alike to oogle at and modify at their own discretion.

is it?

» Doubt it!

Because they've still never found a way to put PMP on 2.0 and up, even though everyone asks for it.

How do u convert the vids you have to pmp avc? Im so confused!!!

by Raphael - 2006-06-21 04:22
» ...RTFM... AVC only 1.5, old 2.01 on 2.0+ too

PMP Mod AVC currently only works for Firmware 1.5. Full stop.

However, PMP Mod 2.01 now also runs on ALL firmwares allowing homebrew via GTA or TIFF exploit.

Check it out here: http://wordpress.fx-world.org

» This is a must for any 1.5 PSP

This is a must app for anyone who wants the best video quality on a memorystick. The only thing I would like to see in future release is support for HE AAC or HE AAC v2. Thanks!

» avc?

How do you play avc with devhook?

I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm naming the files right, and they're in the right folder

what am I doing wrong?

by Tristanm - 2006-06-21 07:22
» Muxer....

I can't get the Muxer to work even though I followed the guide. It gives me Totalframes==0 or something like that. Without something to convert video files, this piece of homebrew is useless.

by slam bradley - 2006-06-21 08:00
» useless?

I'm converting DVD's,avi's, mkv's, etc. to AVC and playing them with PMPMOD.

Probably the MOST USEFUL piece of homebrew on PSP.

Learn how to use AVISynth, DGIndex, mencoder, etc, and then maybe you'll have a clue.

by useless - 2006-06-21 08:02
» you are useless...

...if you aren't even able to use a simple command-line tool. .

*****ing learn to read howtos&FAQs... there is a description on jonnys homepage and several threads on ps2dev and PSPU. Search.

i don't understand why you need to write such offending comment.

you should try to learn walking alone, instead of showing your ignorance and cry like a kid

I have followed the guide on Jonny's site, and the thing doesn't work.

there is no avc guide to follow on jonny's site

and you show your ignorance the 2nd time

but i'm sure you can do better ...

Of course the video half requires AVC encoding, but how exactly am I supposed to do that? In DOS? Can it be done in Windows Vista? I know plenty of things that do not work in this buggy Beta of an Operating System, but how am I supposed to do this in Vista?

» Come on, asking for a WAlkthrough

Hey,

can anyone do a FAQ or an instructions page on how to make the PMP with AVC?

i have tried on my PC but it wont work at all, i have downloaded all the programs and stuff but still no compatible PMP?

Am i doing anything wrong?

» making avc for pmp

try that xvid4psp which is available on this site. it has an included frontend which is rather good....start there

by tutor - 2006-06-21 13:20
» its really not that hard...

...if you search a little and try around.

download the x264 binary from jonny.

create an avisynth script (a textfile with extension .avs, for example in.avs) with this contents:

Directshowsourc e("myvideo.wmv/avi/mpg")

killaudio

lanczosresize(4 80, 272)

converttoyv12()

then go to command line and call x264 like this:

x264 --bitrate 512 -A all --level 3 --pictiming --aud --no-psnr --thread-input --progress --output out.264 in.avs

change the desired bitrate as wanted, and the name of the avisynth script.

extract the mp3 stream of your source video with any other tool, like besweet, mencoder, or whatever.

Finally, start up pmpmuxer like this:

pmp_muxer_avc.exe -v out.264 -a out.mp3 -o finally.pmp

done.

Thank you to the people who have acually tried to help.

Now I'd like to ask that the noobs that must riddicule someone for not knowing how to do something instead of trying help to please buzz off and learn to treat other people better. I asked a legit question and I didn't need to get flammed by elitist noobs.

» x264 help

tutor,

I followed your directions to a T, when I ran x264 with a divx5.0 source file, it gave me this error:

avis [error]: unsupported input format (DIB )

Any ideas? thx for the help

» PMP conversion for macs?

is there any way to convert videos into .pmp format on a mac?

by prime - 2006-06-21 16:46
» nevermind

Just had to install ffdshow, VLC wasn't cutting it.

by Tristanm - 2006-06-22 03:13
» .

There has to be an easier way to do this. I've gotten the video converted to AVC, but it still gives me the same error.

by nonsense - 2006-06-22 03:35
» how lazy can one be

There IS NO easier way yet. OMG, get over it. You have to type in some lines per movie to get them running on PMP Mod AVC and if you do exactly the lines from above, it DOES work. If you're too helpless or lazy or whatever to do that, just forget PMP Mod and stop commenting BS here.

Good things ain't gonna fly into your hands and devs aren't there to just support your lazy ass

by Tristanm - 2006-06-22 03:56
» .

If you're just going to keep flaming then why do you continue to look at the comments for this piece of homebrew?

by Tristanm - 2006-06-22 04:05
» .

Oh and by the way, all that code did was open the video file in Media Player Classic. Not exactly what I was trying to do.

by speechless - 2006-06-22 05:59
» have no clue

opens video in MPC? what the hell did you type? "mpc myvideo.wmv -please convert to AVC now"?

If you have no clue about command line tools what seems the case - , then better just forget about it all and wait until someone writes a click-and-go GUI for it (Xvid4PSP/AVI2PMP).

PS: This comment section really isn't the optimal spot to ask for encoding help, there are forums with threads meant for such problems.

by Tristanm - 2006-06-22 10:02
» .

Well, I got it mostly working, but there is something wrong with my avs script. I asked with a picture in the forums, though at the moment no one's answering.

by thanks... - 2006-07-07 01:39
» i posted this in the "guide" thread, but...

since this one is getting the love, i figured i would repost...

thanks for this, jonny - it works great, and thanks to the folks who got the 2.6 to 1.5 downdater together, 'cos that is how i got to try this...

for the record - using firmware 1.5

anyway, using the following from jonny's homepage - the avc mod and muxer, and the command line version of h264 that is the binary on his page.

now to use the command lines on his page, which i did, you have to have a working avs script. i did this using gordian knot - go to doom9.net and download the latest GordianKnot.RipPack.Setup.2.exe. read the guides @ doom9 if you need help...

in limited testing, the second command line looks better to me (higerbitrate, too)...

oh, i used the encoder in gknot to do the audio (azid + lame), and then just load the video and audio in the avc muxer, and copy the resulting pmp files to the psp/video dir...

also looks like old pmp (xvid) files can be played on the new avc mod, but i didnt try (they show up in the menu)...
