Play PSP games on PC with Remotejoy GUI v1

Remotejoy GUI v1 was coded by DeMoN X - Image 1Let's say, for example, that your PSP's screen is broken but you still want to play games with it. What are you going to do? Buy a new one? Maybe in the past that's what we're going to do but this application has the potential to change all that.

Homebrew developer DeMoN X passed by QJ.Net PSP forums today and released Remotejoy GUI v1. Just like we said, this application lets users display the PSP screen on the computer making it possible to run games even in full screen.

Basically, the program uses plugins "psplink.prx" and "remotejoy.prx" via the Recovery Menu. Then certain .bat files can be called to view games in a window or full screen, and another for both with FPS display.

DeMoN X said that this is an initial release and as such, you might encounter some problems especially when you have other .prx files running. Also, the coder mentioned that not all games are compatible with Remotejoy GUI so you might have to do some trial and error.

Remotejoy GUI v1 should be used on custom firmware 3.40 OE-A only. You will also be needing Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 with this. The developer thinks that it might run on earlier custom firmwares but they haven't been tested as of yet.

Please take note as well that your PSP will lock up if a game uses a certain call to load files or directories off the memory stick that is incompatible with PSPLink.

Finally I can watch UMD movies on a big screen! Or play SOCOM online with my computers screen and Logitech speakers and not strain my eyes. I wonder if there is even possibly a way I could use a keyboard or ps2 control (using pikey/ IR Shell) to control the game LOL. Although this sounds a bit ironic, to me it is great I can dock the psp with my computer and have a greater gaming experience, and when I rarely do need the portability, I can just slip the psp in my pocket. This is what I love about the homebrew scene. Furthermore, I’m sure everyone hates all the time it takes converting to PMP AVC format (however there is a great website called pmp-avc.com that has a few recent movies already converted for download as torrents). Along with the now fully functional pikey v0.3, which allows you to type with a Targus IR keyboard onto the psp, this is one of the most useful applications that has come around for the psp for me. Next thing on developer’s minds should be a real typing program, such as pspWORD LOL (Im serious).

How the hell? This program connects through USB.. unless you connected the psp first through the computer, and then connected the computer to a plasma using a PC input. Wouldn't the image be distorted when a 4" screen is put on a 40" display LOL.

Will this program brick my PSP? I am worried about the "Please take note as well that your PSP will lock up if a game uses a certain call to load files or directories off the memory stick that is incompatible with PSPLink." comment, especially the lock up portion.

Yeah that's true, but as I said I do most of my gaming at home, not on the road, so the "portability" doesn't matter to me. And when the need comes, I can play my favorite games away from home unlike with a pc or games console.

by jelloman - 2007-05-16 10:51
» @hapi

you have to disable the plugins if you want psplink to load. After the "connected to device" message appears in psplink, load "start-pspsh". Then load the "start-remotejoy" thing. Then, go to the "start-pspsh" and type in "%loadvsh". Your PSP should now reboot. When it has booted up, type in "%loadjoy" in "start-pspsh". Maximize the "start-remotejoy" thing and you should see your XMB screen.

* Game Instructions *

To set this up so you can view games on your PC's screen you'll need to do the

following:

1) Enable both plugins (psplink.prx and remotejoy.prx) via your Recovery Menu.

To get there you just hold down the right shoulder button while booting up

your PSP.

2) Do steps 5, 7 and 8 above. Step 6 and 9 are not necessary for this since we

are auto loading the .prx's via the Custom Firmware.

It's not guaranteed to work with every game and if you have any other .prx

running you might run into problems. If a game uses a certain call to load

files/directories off the memory stick that is incompatibile with PSPLink,

your PSP will lock up. Basically it's going to take a lot of trial and error

to figure out what games and other .prx's will work with this.

This thing is awesome! I got it working finally after an hour or experimentation and trial & error, but it was worth it. Some games don't work, while others have side effects (GTA Liberty City Stories slowed down to 7 frames per second on the PC, while the PSP ran it smoothly). Apparently you can't use wifi gaming with it, as tested with Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, but Dark Mirror ran the game perfectly. It looks so great on the PC. I'm looking forward to future developments!

by KUYA - 2007-05-16 21:34
» a really bad example though

qj could have simply used "if you want to see psp xmb/games on a bigger screen" but no they opt to use people with broken psp screens, if you ever had a broken psp screen, there are things you could have already done like, 1 change it with a new or refurbished psp lcd screen, 2 send it to sony for repair, 3 return it to the store if warranty still applies or 4 some nasty thing we dont wanna know.

anyways this is just the GUI of the actual remotejoy homebrew application posted a few days back and it almost works the same except for the handy GUI for those finding it hard to follow readme on the original .BAT version. and sad to say its very picky on which game it will run, some games runs but slowdowns are still pluaging it. im not complaining though because this is a great homebrew and i hope the developer continues to refine this great software so that it can emulate the psp screen on the PC with faster and improve frame rate.

» NICE

I had gotten this working before, but still it's nice to know someone has created a very simple yet nice GUI for it. Acouple of things you should all understand:

- Games will play slowly if they're clocked lower than 333mhz, cause this makes for a lot of processing from our little portable, which results in lagging.

- Wifi/Online play should be avoided for now since it increases the already annoying lagging, making games less playable by the second...it also eventually locks up the PSP.

- Trying to return to the XMB via HOME button will also lock up and crash your PSP.

- Fighting and Racing games work best with this...I have yet to see a game as deep as Metal Gear Solid running past the title screen without hanging...but still, this is great work.

Keep it up!

by China - 2007-05-17 03:30
» Thats how it worked for me

If you intend to play games on the big screen (PC) I suggest that you run the PRXs from the

background instead of running it through EBOOT. Just create a game.txt and have these lines in:

ms0:/seplugins/psplink.prx

ms0:/seplugins/remotejoy.prx

Now save this game.txt in SEPLUGINS folder in your PSP. Restart your PSP holding down the right

trigger to get to the RECOVERY MODE and then go to PLUGINS and enable PSPLINK and REMOTEJOY PRXs ONLY! Then exit.

Now connect your PSP to your PC BUT DO NOT RUN PSPLINK. Just start a game you're interested in

then go to the part where you are actually playing (get past the intros and all) then on your

PC start USBHOSTFS_PC startup and REMOTEJOY startp - NO NEED FOR PSPSH. Once you have REMOTEJOY

screen EXPECT A BLANK BLACK SCREEN. Just F3 to start the video feed from PSP.

And it realy worked^^

Okay... GTA LCS slows down with 10fps and after a race in Ridge Racer the psp freezed, but I think this will be fixed....;)

I don't see why you people can't get it to work after following the readme. Go to you psp and the PSPLINK, then run the Start-USBHostFS_PC.bat, (if the driver is installed right, you should see the message saying "connected to device") then run Start-PSPSH.bat, and then the Start-RemoteJoy-FPS.bat (any of those files according to what suits you). Now go to PSPSH windows and type %loadvsh. It'll restart your psp xmb then type %loadjoy, It will display your psp screen on RemoteJoySDL. Simaple as that!

Well make sure you got a 3.40 psp.

Make sure you follow the USB drives setup. If you fail that then you can uninstal the driver from device manager, then try again.

After that it should work (in the plugins menu in the thingy thingy(recovery mode) only enable joythingy.thingy, disable the ohter one)

start the USB server thingy

open the app on your psp

start the other program (PSP thingy)

then start joy thingy.

in the other program (PSP thingy)

type %loadvsh, this reset the psp (well kinda reset it) it will keep the USB connection if you set up the drivers properly.

then type %loadjoy, and then joy thingy on your PC will display the output.

Some times it lags, some times it crashs.

I havent actually got a game to load yet (only tested GTA:LCS, WORMS, PRO EVO 5 and 6).

But this is damn good app.

Cant wait for the system to be flawless, then replacing the USB with wifi. then porting the whole thing over to OSX.

Great work.

So, do you mean you copied 'psplink.prx' & 'remotejoy.prx' to SEPlugins as instructed, but as well as 'psplink_user.prx', 'usbgdb.prx' & 'usbhostfs' from the 'PSP FW 3.XX OE\PSPLink'? And which ones did you add to 'game.txt', and which ones did you activate?

Thanks heaps, I'm so close to getting this working for a game.

» Scrap above post ^^^

I discovered how to get it to work... Finally!

To get a game running...

(you must have LibUSB installed first- read 'ReadMe-LibUSB.txt' for instructions)

The plugins you need to put into SEPlugins on your psp and add to game.txt are 'psplink.prx', 'psplink_user.prx', 'remotejoy.prx' & 'usbhostfs.prx'. You need to have them all activated at once. On your psp, start the game and get past the part where it loads from the MS. On your PC, open the GUI and press OK on the prompt, even though your psp isn't connected by the USB. Then click Start below the PSPSH image to start PSPSH and then choose a mode (windowed w/ or w/o FPS, Fullscreen w/ or w/o FPS). Plug your usb cable into your psp and computer. Instantly, the game should come up on your PC screen, as long as you have all four plugins enabled and your psp is in-game, past the part of loading from the MS. Happy... uhh... PC/PSP gaming! =P

» The games I've tried:

Daxter - doesn't work, as with the plugins enabled, I can't load the save even when it's not connected to the PC.

Twisted Metal: Head On - Works, just a little slow when there are several vehicles on the screen at once.

Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix - Works; and, at full speed!
