Paladin v1.0: Convert your PALs to POPS |
Ó
Coldbird has just released a new application to help you get the most out of playing PSX games on your PSP using the firmware PSX emulator. And this ain't another Popstation GUI.Paladin is an application that will convert PSX games from PAL to NTSC format. According to Coldbird, in most cases it works a lot better than the popular PAL to NTSC converter, Zapper2000. Those who have known developer-speak from an early age might want to know that this is because Paladin modifies the VModes rather than the YPos Values.
Coldbird would like to know which games work and which ones don't. So do drop him a word via the comments area or the forums release thread. Here's a few final words from Coldbrid:
If you still experience a Screen Displacement after patching with Paladin, apply a YPos Move to 0/0 with Zapper.Keep in Mind thought that its highly suggested not to use Zapper or any other Patching Tool if its possible... only move the Coordinates to 0/0 with Zapper if needed.
Just drag the file you want to be converted from PAL to NTSC over the "paladin.exe" file and it will do everything for you, no expert knowledge necessary! However, if you do have expert knowledge and would like to have a go at improving this application, then Coldbird has included the source code for you to take a peek at.

But only Drag&Drop over the paladin.exe doesn'T work.
I have to do it in cmd with:
paladin inputimage.bin outputimage.bin
I'm waiting now until its done...

The Problems with FF7 arise because currently I only created a Searchmask for Type A Structs...
Type B and C Structs arent supported yet (FF7 uses Type C if i'm right informed - and it will be the first one Im working on...)
This Tool aint ment to replace existing ones, but its giving the Peaple that are stuck with "unconvertable" Games a new Hope...
And those that have bad conversions, the chance to improve their ISO by properly centering the Image...
FF7 should - at the very moment - result in a "No Y-Pos Struct Found" - meaning that you need to use the Standard VMode Mask... Thats a Bad Thing, as it can ruin your ISO - or do nothing at all - depending how the Game is built...
Remember, this is a Work in Progress
And I would prefer that you Guys provide me with Working / Non Working Reports via MSN, its just the easiest to handle and it will allow me to create a little Compatiblity List for each Version...

I bought a 4Gb memory card, so I can load pretty much anything into my PSP. If there is anything else I can do, gimme a yell.
my MSN address is (my name, as above) at gmail.

Just put the EasyPaladin.bat in the same Folder as Paladin.exe+Image and start it.

so i presume it was working, but >25mins for a small iso?
quicker to download the NTSC psx eboot.
Reply
i dont know if its because ive extracted the iso's from some of my pal- eboots but it just sits there not showing any progress what-so-ever.
oh well, i will keep trying
i run it from a command prompt (cmd)
using : paladin diehard.iso dientsc.iso
and it just sits there using no cpu usage with a blank screen.
im wondering if its only iso's extracted from eboots that has this prob.

i doubt its my rig as i have a 3200+ 2gb ram and a load of other performance parts. im sure there used to be a pal-ntsc + ntsc-pal patcher for the ps1 a long time ago. its time to go searching...

also tried with a FF8 PAL iso created straight from the cd. exactly the same scenario, altho FF8CD1 didnt provide any output after about an hour of cpu crunching.

Time to convert ... ~ 6 hours.
Hope the next version is much faster!
