PSP - Image 1Homebrew developer, pj1115, informed us about this app he has concocted called Outa-Space PSP. Now if you'd remember, we have been dishing out apps to pimp your XMB for days now, Outa-Space is also for your XMB but it has a different function from the others we've talked about.

According to the dev, this app is designed to remove any features of the XMB that you don't want so that you'd have more room for gameboots or things that you like. pj1115 adds that this "includes the usual font switching stuff, but you can also dispose of camera & GPS functionality, network update, the certificate utility, photo functionality, music functionality, video functionality, the XMB browser, and RSS. You can choose which ones you want to dispose of in the menu of the program, but all-in-all, if you were to completely sap your XMB of features, you could save around 4mb."

If you choose to use it, only the XMB will notice the difference and UMDs will work just fine. He also cautions you that the features you remove aren't disabled, they're deleted. So if you remove some of your XMB's features, they would only be re-installed if you pick up a new firmware (be it downgrading, upgrading, or restoring a custom firmware). This is designed  for Dark_AleX's OE firmwares (preferably 3.10 OE-C), but it will work on 1.50.

Anyhow, some may find this app to be scary to use, others may find it useful. Whatever is your take on this app, just be sure to be properly informed and read the readme file that comes with the download. The dev won't be held liable for any damages, so you better read up and think before using this app.

Now if we could only find something that will delete the whole psp's flash, imagine how much space that would save

DAMN!

Whoops, sorry about that, I got it mixed up with 3.03 OE. Correction: Designed for 3.10 OE-A or later. Will work with 1.50, but be careful.

One last thing...

In the next revision I'm looking to add a backup and restore feature, so any files you delete with Outa-Space will be backed up and can be restored via an option in the app.
by - 2007-02-20 10:06:10
ummm../

what about: "Also, the PSP won't crash when you try to use a deleted feature, it will simply " simply what? not do anything? give an error? inquiring minds want to know!

Cannot start web browser

Hmmm.. I just delete the rss feed and some asian fonts.. but when i tried to log on my web browser, my 3.03OEC PSP just shut down by itself..
by - 2007-02-20 11:38:48
?

rss feed is linked to the web browser on the PSP thats why it will not work. Not to sure about this app. I would rather do all this the manual way. I will not use this but thanks for the nice brew
by - 2007-02-20 12:11:46
Ok....

You've found a trick or two in my program! @ Dybbuk: I may just combine the RSS and browser deletion thing so as to eliminate any resulting problems for the next release. Also, my program does everything you can do manually, and the coding is spotless. @ Sham: Try disabling all other plugins and try again. Then try updating to 3.10 OE and try again. If not, then I guess I'll have to sort something out!

Wow, its always nice to see a comment like that! By the way, I've started work on v2, which should feature a backup/restore function. Also, I've nearly finished a utility called "vid-gone"; It's a PRX that's loaded with the XMB. What it does is rename the MP_ROOT folder to something else on boot, so the video menu can't see your videos. You can then unhide your videos with [Home]+[L], or hide them with [Home]+[R]. Right now I'm having trouble with button input.... (the combi's work, but it disables the XMB's control).

... that was a good joke, anyone who says otherwise probably just doesn't understand it and why it's funny...

by PSPZorZ - 2007-02-20 13:58:32
yo

If you don't mind can you tell me how to make a PRX (pm me) or gimme a link to a guide to making them? I have ideas for 4 awesome plugins which I want to make, but I don't know what to do... I have devkitPSP (or something) and I've never made an eboot, but it seems to me that making a prx will be easier than making an actual eboot, right? thnx

by Ryalla - 2007-02-20 16:30:14
PRX < EBOOT?

PRX is just as hard as programming an EBOOT.
by Ryalla - 2007-02-20 16:31:36
Button input?

You using Peek instead of Read for your controls?
by PSPZorZ - 2007-02-20 16:52:32

Coding is spotless? Well then I do hope that it's not the same ode you asked help for in the dev forums.
