New PMP Mod variant with AVC support! |
Ó

Jonny has released a variant of his PMP Mod homebrew application for the PSP. PMP Mod AVC lets you play media files at full resolution on your PSP using the combination of videos converted into the .PMP movie format and a fully-functional homebrew media playing application on your PSP.
As you've probably guessed from the title, PMP Mod AVC supports the AVC video format - great for firmware 1.5 users, as they won't have to upgrade to 2.0+ to play AVC files! Jonny would like to thank magiK (the author of PMF Player) for unlocking the AVC capabilities. magiK has:
- Unlocked the avc decoding api
- Modified x264 to make the stream fully psp compatible
- Followed/helped Jonny with the decoding api
Compatible streams can be created with x264, here are some command line examples:
x264 --crf 25 -A all --level 3 --pictiming --aud --no-psnr --thread-input --progress --output out.264 in.avs
x264 --bitrate 512 -A all --level 3 --pictiming --aud --no-psnr --thread-input --progress --output out.264 in.avs
In the PMP AVC Muxer you need to specify width, height and fps of the video. I've patched x264 to write a file with this information. If the muxer finds this file, information here will be used instead of the one specified manually (so, in a normal situation, you don't need to specify the info manually).
This special version is completely separate to the original PMP mod, and because this is the first version, has reduced functionality over the full PMP Mod, with reduced options. It runs at 222Mhz at around 67fps, with MP3 decoding responsible for the small amount of lag. AVC files need to be converted to the .PMP movie format using the included muxer. As with all of Jonny's projects, the source code is freely available to download and modify to your hearts content.

beta tested works great on 2.6
this does not work on 2.6 i dont believe you.
if you start the psp in 2.50, you can also watch AVC files on 1.5, so this is an unnescesary thing. also, the pspmplayer also works on 1.50 with AVC.
sry it doesnt work i tested raphaels pmp which just came out (check forums)
Full Metal Alchemist.
workin on my 1.5 :P
I am really sorry but we don't need this since we (1.5) have devhook.
People seem to not get what this actually means: Sony cuts avc videos to be 320x240 resolution at max, unless you pay for a video to download. This is totally crap and the resulting image quality with this is even lower than a 420x272 pmpmod 2.01 divx/xvid encode, as I already explained widely in a thread here: http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=34917&page=2 Now with this amazing work of jonny and magik, we can playback full resolution avc videos, while still gaining the features of avc (better motion compensation/smaller filesize at same bitrate). So think before saying something like "this is unnessecary".
Is it wrong to say that AVC and h264 is the same thing ?
And yes... AVC is available for firmware 2+ But not in FULL Resolution : 480*272 !!! => That's the new feature of this MOD and this a GREAT new ADVANCE in the scene... csuper out.
Please make a tutorial on how to convert these to the correct format, or a simple converter with a cropping functionality would be great also !
It works on 2.6. #1 said
he mistook this news to be about my pmpmod 2.01 FW 2.0+ enable mod, as he later corrected himself. This avc pmpmod is not (yet) FW 2.0+ compatible.
Hi, does the file have to be a.pmp? I have a ton of ipod videos that don't seem to work on 2.0+ that are AVC and i am wondering, will this work?
good for those who also use PMP videos. videos on my POSP arent very important though, I rtaher have ISOs, roms, mp3s and such. If I want to play AVC videos tho, I just load up 2.5 on good 'ol devhook tho but this is a very good app and a great update anyway!
i just tried on my 2.6 firmware psp using eloader and yes it does work!
...you didn't yet try to playback a video with 2.6, did you? NOTE: Entering the file selection menu IS possible on FW 2.0+, however the playback is problematic. If it turns out to play on your 2.0+ version, please contact me on my homepage http://wordpress.fx-world.org

hopefully videora makes a converter for this. As it stands now, its a lot of cutting and pasting to the command line
I'm having troubles on how to make the PMP, what do i use and stuff like that? i have download x264 and the PMP Muxer AVC but there is nothing to help me with? ANYONE?
Please don't call it "x264 v1.0". There is no such thing. The current version of x264 is 0.47.531, and the version included in your archive is 0.47.528. -- an x264 developer
on my site http://jonny.leffe.dnsalias.com/ i've specified that this is a mod version, labeled v1.00 for convenience "x264 (modified, labeled v1.00)" probably news sites doesn't get this point. if you want i can specify this better on my site (let me know) jonny
gone ahead and removed 1.00 profanity on my site :)
