netlib v1.2 Released! Dial Phone Numbers From Your PSP!

netlib v1.2youresam from our forums has just updated netlib. It's a library of functions which developers can use so that they dont have to re-type the code. They can simply call the functions from this library and it will do its work. Also in the newest version, youresam has added a really wacky function. You can make phone-calls! Yep, you read that right. But you can't actually talk to the opposite guy. But hey, it might just happen in the future.

Originally, PsPmad's idea, youresam implemented it into netlib. Here's how it works:
  • Edit the config.txt file and fill in your phone number, and the number which you want to call.
  • Now simply call up the number. It's completely anonymous! Though, don't come back crying if your girlfriend's dad comes after you like a lunatic for making prank calls.
There are two limitations though. You can only use "your number" 3 times. Yep, no more. It will be solved in one of the upcoming versions. The second limitation is that it can only be used in the US of A. Why don't you guys try it out and report your findings below. Be advised though, this library is originally meant for developers. The only use for the common PSP user is for some fun. Just wait until some developer integrates this into his homebrew.

Yay

Awesome, now if we get a microphone add on soon we can finally use our PSP's like a cellphone.
by Mosquito - 2006-04-30 03:59:25
talkman

I hope we will be able to use the usb microphone for homebrew when talkman will be out :)
by PopcOrn DeVil - 2006-04-30 04:45:03
Uhh

Thinking about that, it'd be pretty hard to do, maybe impossible.
by - 2006-04-30 04:45:03
x.x

Use PSP as a cellphone?!WTF? Does it cost anything to make a call? In future when they have made this like a "real" phone, i wonder how many will actually use PSP as a cell?
by Fukafly - 2006-04-30 04:51:59
talkman/socom

has anyone figured out how to use the microphone that comes with either socom or talkman (preferably the talkman one as its cooler than having a big chunky headset on) in any homebrew yet? In the choice++ eloader it has an option to detect if a microphone is connected, but i don't see the point of it yet.
by Destructo - 2006-04-30 05:50:45
Misleading

Hmm, the information is kind of misleading. It uses http://www.searchitcallit.com to do the calls, but in reality, all it does is make someone call your HOME phone, not your PSP.
by - 2006-04-30 06:19:57
Not misleading at all

This would be an awesome homebrew app...
by youresam - 2006-04-30 07:32:24

Actually, when you use the function, 'your' phone rings, then when you answer it, 'their' phone rings. And I've found out more info: 3 limit PER DAY (YAY!) 3 minute limit per call
by - 2006-04-30 07:41:27
heh

its kinda weird. the only thing i see usefull in this is to make prank calls with. It wont be able to be used to make the PSP a cellphone. BUT it does set up a phone call between two phones with no caller ID. Kinda interesting.
by SoulReaver - 2006-04-30 08:55:13
headset....?

u think u could use the headset to talk to the other person and ur psp name ex. monkeyboy and use the remote control included with the psp to answer u no the buttons on there or u could make the screen light up and show the name of the person whos calling and also use the O button to talk just like SOCOM just some thoughts that would be good for this program
by - 2006-04-30 08:56:35
yup

AND after she kicked my dog she tried out this lovely non-working psp cell phone function :D
by MDCosta911 - 2006-04-30 09:06:55
woo

phoneee!
by youresam - 2006-04-30 09:08:04

No one has been able to use the headset function (as far as I know..). And this ISNT supposed to be a cellphone app, its just a cool function I added. The title is misleading.
by p0p5ux - 2006-04-30 09:16:04

doesnt work for me

i put my phone number and everyhting correctly but when it says connecting my wlan light turns green then stops and i have to exit.
by RaiderX - 2006-04-30 09:24:33
AWEOME

HERES MY IDEAD: If its possible, make it work with a headset for voice input. And even better, implement this code into a soundboard for the PSP so you can make REAL prank calls!
by youresam - 2006-04-30 09:26:56

19, 20, 21, it doesnt work outside USA. 22, I dont think there is a way to get mic input. Also, we are trying to get a new server working that will make it unlimited! :)
by youresam - 2006-04-30 09:30:25

Oh, and #21, I forgot, when that happens, restore default settings. Your WLAN wont work with LuaPlayer until you do.
by - 2006-04-30 09:38:36
qeqe

by - 2006-04-30 09:48:03

FUN

THIS is AWESOME!!! It is so much fun! I'm calling everybody I know! It is the funniest thing ever!
by - 2006-04-30 10:12:07
Yet more useful information!

OMG a library is a bunch of functions for programmers! So they don't have to type it in again! What will they think of next, games that you put into your psp that run so you don't have to type them in yourself? Could someone give basic writing courses to the author of this article please? And perhaps the entire staff?
by - 2006-04-30 10:30:10
????

how do you install it? is it a lua? plz somebody help
by youresam - 2006-04-30 10:35:41

HELP

Can someone explain step by step to on how to get this to work? Can it work for PSP version 2.6?
by NeilR - 2006-04-30 12:40:53
@ #36

Read carefully and you will see that this is a programming library intended for developers to use on their homebrew projects. It doesn't really serve you any good unless you program for the PSP.
by - 2006-04-30 12:51:11
will this work on 2.6?

I recently bought a 1.0 psp for homebrew, in addition to my old 2.6 psp. this does not work on 1. so i want to know if it'll work on the 2.6? plz answer
by KilleRxElitE - 2006-04-30 12:55:12
lol

thanks youresam it works now. they should have automated messages in the next version lol
by - 2006-04-30 12:55:15
YES!!

yes i did try this on my version 2.6 PSP and it did WORK! Just place all the files that are given into the place where you put LUA applications. Then retype the number is '5555555555' to the numbers you want. Open in LUA player (is used .16) and it should work
by - 2006-04-30 13:33:10
0.16 is needed

I just wanted to confirm, Lua Player 0.16 is needed for this to work properly. 0.18 tries to run the program but does not. I am using a 1.5 PSP with Lua Player 0.16.

by funetik - 2006-04-30 14:56:19

Sorry to go all i-ball on you, but.. Look, you cretinous gimps - It's a library. It's not a special little toy. It's not a full blown program. The title is very misleading. A library is a bit like goodyear tyres... Instead of each car manufacturer (programmer) having to make their own, they can get some premade goodyears and slap them on a lot easier (than coding their own). Bit of a crap analogy, but you get the picture. Basically the phone thing just goes through a website. You can use your pc to do it. YES, it requires wifi. NO, a psp phone wouldn't be cool. Just use a phone :) Well done, youresam. Nice lib :)
by - 2006-04-30 15:11:31
very cool

@48. Whatever, let them use this little demo as they wish. Also, making free phone calls from your psp wouldn't be too bad I think. (if not real phone calls with voice, maybe txt messeges, or maybe some kind of wifi pager lol)
by - 2006-04-30 15:30:08
hellllp

wen i load with luaplayer 019 the wifi green light comes on then cuts off...but my luaplayer iz now frozen...now i have to restart....
by - 2006-04-30 17:03:52
yo kerpal!

wow someone else has actually heard that phone call. That thing is so old too. www.blackoutbox.com prank phone calls. that site inspired me and my friends to make our own prank phone calls.
by Skaifey - 2006-04-30 17:47:42
Cell Phone... not possible

For one, we can't recieve calls, and two, we can't call anyone whilst outside of a WiFi™ zone. I'm Australian so I couldn't check it out, but it sounds like it's gonna be good when implemented into a proper app.
by KilleRxElitE - 2006-04-30 20:12:03
hmmm

can i use someone elses phone number besides mine?
by - 2006-04-30 20:14:09

Will it ever work in the uk?
by - 2006-05-01 17:36:46
no

no sorry
by - 2006-05-05 22:31:24
what about..

wait so why not just use the "divert call" thing on cellphones so basically you're answering your phone on your psp say when your phones out of battery! and also like the microphone problem sony shoudl just have it like on a usb like mentioned or headphones since the psp speakers arent-so-loud. i mean they should make that "home" button like the xbox 360 button on the controller of an xbox 360 where it goes to the little menu with your profile on it etc. so then while your gaming you can just click that and then talk to your friend etc etc. of course charges going to the phone number you put in.. also to make sure its YOUR phone and your not stealing ID's like here in hk if you try to do wireless in the airport they ask for your phone number so they can text you the code to access the internet etc etc! yes! im tired of talking. :)
by - 2006-05-22 09:07:58
didnt work

well ni tried it several time several different numbers it connected and said dialing but then it said done but my phone wasnt ringing so i dont know i done exactly as it says i have 1.5 psp lua player 0.16 and have lots of lua apps so im not a noob to this stuff
by - 2006-07-07 22:09:31
