Homebrew developer JustChris is currently working on an organizer/database application for all PlayStation Portable (PSP) users. He dropped by QJ.Net forums and released an early version of the program. It's called PSPMyAdmin and is actually based on the popular app phpMyAdmin.

If you're not familiar with the latter, take note that it is actually a popular organizer as it can be found in most web hosts that support MySQL. What it does is make updating MySQL databases easier with the use of a PHP-driven front end. PSPMyAdmin now does exactly the same with minor differences.

For one, the homebrew application is a stand alone program and utilizes external files for storage. JustChris also mentioned that PSPMyAdmin works with MySQL scripts and not the encoded database files themselves. However, that shouldn't be a problem because the scripts are just commands to edit databases, meaning they can be transferred to any MySQL host.

Like we said earlier, this is an early version and as such, the program only allows users to browse through the table names of the database as well as some of the "insert" command associated with the rows in the tables. Currently, it just reads files named "test.sql" that must be placed in the same folder as the Eboot itself.

PSPMyAdmin was tested on PSP firmware 2.7. JustChris also noted that it should work on most firmwares except 1.50. Proposed features for the next release include:
  • Read from any compatible file in the directory
  • Export/import phpMyAdmin SQL dump, so scripts are transferable to host
  • Read and edit following file formats: SQL script, CSV files, (maybe) XML
  • Work with all files in a spreadsheet like format
  • New GUI, with a clean look, visual effects and presentation
  • Search feature, probably simple at first

Funky

Pretty cool, I wonder does JustChris plan on adding networking to this application in the future? As an admin/developer a handy pocket-sized tool like this could be pretty nice.
