Sony PSP - Image 1Remember the Music prx v0.54 app (formerly known as irsmp3.prx) that developer Joek2100 released a few days ago? The coder passed by the QJ.Net Forums earlier to inform the handheld community that the homebrew plugin has been updated to version 0.55.

In case you're wondering what this app does, it's a custom firmware plugin that allows you to play music while you're running a game or vsh.

This latest release contains a bug fix - the bug in question caused some of the mp3 files being played to hang at the end of the file. Aside from that, Joek2100 is letting the guys know about several features that are going to be added in the future:
  • auto enable the software decoder when the ME is in use, so playing mp3 can work with any homebrew that uses the me
  • improve the on screen display
  • add some sort of playlist in folder support (each subdir would be a separate playlist and you can switch between them, something like DJEK was talking about in the old thread)
  • add more formats
  • figure out how to get pops mode working
  • have button inputs that are used in the prx ignored by everything else
Music prx v0.55 has been successfully tested on CFWs 3.52-M33 (Team M33) and 3.40 OE (Dark AleX). The homebrew's author further warns that users should not try to clock the vsh to 222/111 - doing so may cause the vsh to crash. Usage and installation instructions are available in the file bundle's readme, and over at Joek2100 release thread in our PSP dev forums.

Fairly safe

I've only had it crash once when overclocking in the XMB, this is the only plug-in I have enabled in the VSH text and I'm using 3.40 OE-A. So I feel it is fairly safe, a minor crash once in a long while is a small price to pay and would be even smaller if people like me could reproduce the issue so the developer could work on it. Anyways, sweet plug-in, I look forward to the future releases.

I give up

I've got no clue how to use this and the readme is about as helpful as a drunk Irishman. Anyone care to give a guide how to work this thing?

Have you tried the thread?

The developers thread has many useful things in it, one such thing I believe is my post of the readme file that was slightly redone so it can easily be viewed on a PC. Other then that you can post your questions there and likely get them answered.

ok

cut and past this in your music_conf.txt, then you'll have to put your mp3s in the ms0:/MUSIC/ also in internal subfolders (in order to divide several cds); remember that before you'll have to copy this seplugins folder in the root (as ms0:/seplugins); I hope you haven't any other plugin as it would cancel your settings. then you have to activate the plugin pressing R when starting the psp and activating it in vsh and in game150 and in game. now you are ready: press note key plus l trigger and you'll have your music in the background of the vsh. you can also play it while you're playing and remember that you can also do many other things, just read carefully this config file to know wich key to use :) bye --------------- #this is just the default config #you can have as many button presses as you want #just have button|button for each one #valid buttons are: #(on dpad):UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT #HOME NOTE SELECT START #LTRIGGER RTRIGGER #TRIANGLE CROSS CIRCLE SQUARE #SCREEN VOLUP VOLDOWN #DISABLE as a button will disable that command DEBUG = 1 #this is really for me, set to 1 to enable debug display, 0 to disable DIR = ms0:/MUSIC/ #must end with a slash #DIR = ms0:/MUSIC/ VOLUP = NOTE|UP VOLDOWN = NOTE|DOWN START_STOP = NOTE|LTRIGGER PREVIOUS = NOTE|LEFT NEXT = NOTE|RIGHT MODE_TOGGLE = NOTE|RTRIGGER #SEQ/RAND CPU_NEXT = NOTE|TRIANGLE CPU_PREV = NOTE|CROSS RELOAD = NOTE|CIRCLE DISPLAY = NOTE|SQUARE #on screen display IN_GAME_MUTE = NOTE|SELECT #press this combo once to disable game sounds, and again to enable them LOOP = NOTE|START OC_WLAN = 0 #set to 1 to allow wireless connections to be made at cpu speeds >222MHz, this should be handled #directly in custom fws >= 3.03OE-C, if you have a problem with the vsh brower + overclocking, set VSH_CLOCK = 0 #if you have custom firmare >= 3.03OE-C this isn't needed ENABLE_VSH_CLOCK = 1 #set to 0 to disable the VSH from changing the cpu's speed, normally this is 1 #the vsh normally changes the clock speed when playing music with the screen off (to 133mHz cpu/44mHz bus) #when stoping the browser #up to 333mHz when playing certain video files (possibly, I haven't been able to confirm this) #and back to 222mHz when the above things are stopped #this also allows overclocking in the vsh browser #NOTE: These are the default startup settings, they are not changed by the music prx DEFAULT_MODE = SEQ #set to RAND to start up in random mode by default/ SEQ to have sequential VOLUME = 100 # 0-100, default volume CPU_SPEED = 222 # NOTE: in 3.40OE (and possbily other fws) setting the clock above 222 (bus > 111) causes the XMB (VSH) to crash # This seems fixed in 3.52-M33 2, if you have problems, you might want to update # 1-333, cpu speed to start with BUS_SPEED = 111 # NOTE: if you have problems, try changing this to 222/111 , some things don't like you changing the cpu speed # 1-167, must be less than half the cpu speed
