PSP Custom firmware plugin: Music prx v0.54 Beta - Image 1

Homebrew developer joek2100 has come out with a new beta version of Music prx. For those who haven't heard of it, Music prx is a custom firmware plugin that lets you play music on your PSP while running games and using the vsh.

There have actually been a couple of changes since the v0.50 release, so we've got the comprehensive changelog for versions 0.51 to 0.54:
  • 0.51: (beta)
    • Fixed a bug which would prevent playback in some games (You can now remove hw.prx, it is no longer used)
    • Since many people are reporting problems, I made this a "beta" version, I'll try and fix the bugs as soon as I can, see me last post in this thread for details
  • 0.52: (beta)
    • Fixed a bug which prevented some (I guess a lot) of atrac3 files from playing properly,
  • 0.53: (beta)
    • Fixed another bug making atrac3/atrac3 plus files not play, please update to this version before reporting any bugs, if you still have problems
  • 0.54 beta:
    • Removed the settings file because it was causing a problem
    • Added those settings into music_conf.txt
    • NOTE: In 3.40OE (and possibly other fws), setting the cpu speed > 222 will cause the vsh to not work/crash
    • This seems fixed in 3.52 M33-2
Users will definitely want to check out the included readme for instructions on installing the plugin as well as information on how to use it. In any case, give this plugin a try and see if it works for you. Enjoy!

I can see where the stigma lies but, damn. Just because you're not in elementary school anymore and have pubic hair doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to enjoy a game where an 11 year old boy carries a sword taller than he stands, and has a hot teenag

First of all DS games are completely unique, as in they have not one screen like the PSP, but two screens, secondly, and most importantly, the overwhelming majority of the games use the stylus, similar to the way that PC gamers use a mouse, and the built in microphone for gameplay, that's one of the reasons why people are so hooked on the DS in the first place, and why the PSP is a very distant second place in handheld sales. For every PSP sold, there's over three DS systems sold. To date, there's been over 60 million DS units sold, At this rate, the DS could catch up to the PS2 as the biggest selling video gaming product in history, along with the Gameboy advance that has already sold over 75 million units worldwide The DS has unique gaming features like the stylus which would be impossible to emulate on ANY other gaming system. That's why DS games can't be used on a Wii system. Oh, and yes, once again, the DS can do just about everything the PSP can with the Max Media Player, it can play movies, play music, play LEGAL emulated games, and of course, it plays DS games, that a PSP would never play effectively. Heck, it's more realistic to play a PSP game on a DS than vice versa.

HELP!!!

I cant get this to work on my 3.40 OE!!!!!!!!!!!
by Savaage - 2007-08-15 01:13:16
I'll stick with the PSP

I'll take the PSP anyday... PSP is a much better multi media device.. not to mention capable of doing so much more. 3 letters, G P S... try doing that on a DS... :D ... i dont have a ds, but its a neat system... and definitely good for the simple minded and non tech savvy.. thats why its selling so much.. .. but us electronic junkies know that the PSP is capable of so much more.. : ).. DS is cool, but i'll stick with my PSP : )
by - 2007-08-15 02:31:05
So be it

but... I'd pick up another PSP anyday. I'd never get meself a DS. WHY? Simple enough - I'd feel ashamed to be seen friggling with that stylus on that gay-looking DS playing IQ2 or some other game. Whereas the PSP looks rock-solid-cool. Let them girls and kiddies have their DS and let them be happy... But I keep sticking to my PSP which gives me a hardon coz its soo freaking cool.

...

Strangler... wow buddy, hah. You came onto the PSP portion of the site to say the DS can compare to the PSP? If you know the DS is beating the PSP in sales, why are you still trying to convince others how much better it is? It's because as much as you'd hate to admit, it really does have to do with age. More kids use DS, get, the F, over it. Honestly. The DS has two screens, who cares? One giant theatre-shaped screen like the PSP is perfect. Wow a stylist... how innovative because those haven't been around, ever. Also, for you to say the DS can do just about everything the PSP can do, LMFAO. You're REALLY reaching on that "about" part aren't you? That's the most insane statement I've ever heard.

Joe, Include an option to toggle displaying the current song on screen. I have so many MP3 mixsets by different DJs, I have no idea who's playing what. - U

M33

Im unable to get this to work on the latest firmware. I keep slamming my fingers against the NOTE/L Trigger buttons but it sits there teasing me in game and at vsh menu. I had this same problem with.50 and .54 now.

Plugins

You try enabling the plugins in recovery menu like the readme suggests? - U
by - 2007-08-15 07:44:32
I have enabled them

Yes I have enabled the plugins in the recovery menu. What do you think is wrong?
by - 2007-08-15 07:48:14
Strange

Unsure. Try reconfiguring your control button to SELECT instead of NOTE and use that along with the left trigger button, see if that works. - U
by - 2007-08-15 07:50:26
Also..

And double-check the music path definition in the config file as well. I believe the default one is not correct, which will require that you comment it out and uncomment the other one listed. - U

Yes

It should work fine on 3.10 OE-A and 3.10 OE-A' but until you've got it installed correctly we may never know.
by Korlithiel - 2007-08-15 12:55:28
Err PSX games?

Last I checked Joek2100 said he was working on getting it working in PS games and for now it works in the VSH, the web browser, PSP games and if you have the newer M33 firmwares then also in homebrew.
