Well, yee-doggie! We got X-Flash for Christmas! With the pace of custom/emulated firmware picking up steam, those devs who follow in the wake of Booster and Dark_Alex have to step up the pace of their own work. A few days ago, Art came out with X-Flash v17f, which was only a few days after X-Flash v17d, to add dual firmware support. A few days after that - er, that would be today -  Art now releases X-Flash v18, this time supporting 3.02 OE.

Like we said: every time the top of the chain steps it up, the entire field has to bring it one notch higher.

Anyway, here's the list of firmware-specific disabled features for X-Flash provided for in the Readme:

Features currently disabled for firmware versions 2.71 SE and 3.02 OE:
  • XMB Menu Label editor, and custom label options.
  • Firmware Version Spoofers.
  • Plain Black PSP About Screens.
  • XMB System Sounds *
  • Some Easter Eggs won't work because they rely on version spoofs, detailed name plate picture, etc.
* Implemented for 2.71 SE, but not implemented for 3.02 OE yet.

And here's what's new:
  • Multi Firmware Version implementation. Supports three versions including 3.02 OE unofficial hybrid.
  • Esitmated free space on flash0 is more accurate.
  • Program terminates if any firmware installation on flash0 is greater than 20.2 Megabytes (all firmware versions).
  • Gameboot movies for 3.02 SE must be no greater in size than the original gameboot movie.
  • Added a Christmas theme for the X-Flash menu

Update: We did say that Art, along with other devs, has been stepping up the pace of their work. This really active dev has just released v18b of his X-Flash app. Here's what's new in this latest version:
  • Changes to plain black background, and custom background routines to write all twelve backgrounds instead of just one.
  • Program checks the background.bmp file is exactly 60x34 resolution at startup when running under 3.02 OE to ensure it remains compatible with the consolidated background file for 3.02.

No bigger than original gameboot size?

pray tell, what might that be?
by - 2006-12-23 21:39:48
Quick Question

Does altering the opening_plugin.rco still cause errors in the PS1 emulation like it did in 3.02OE-A customizer?
by eruditejok3r - 2006-12-23 21:57:06
!

I guess we already know who is sending it. :P
by - 2006-12-23 22:25:43
Nevermind

Nope, as usual Art has done a fine job and the PSX eboots load flawlessly (But custom fonts tend to show only the bottom fifth of the text within the PSX emulator menu)
by - 2006-12-23 22:45:30
head

er.. support for a whole new fw version.
by - 2006-12-23 23:14:03

by - 2006-12-23 23:56:11

it's not a bug, go to theme settings and select the January theme which is where the black background is written to.

...

I'm not the type to say bad things about qj cuz, i love this site. I check it every couple hours but, in my opinion i don't think it wise to refer to art like this Like we said: every time the top of the chain steps it up, the entire field has to bring it one notch higher. look we all know dark alex rules but, don't ya think art could view that as a degrading remark. In my opinion that comment implies that he is just a grunt and doesn't matter. which isn't true I was pissed after I updated to OE-A and realized I could't use x-flash until Art updates it and, I was very glad to see he did. I'm not tryin to be an *****. I just think it was slightly distasteful.
by AndyMosh - 2006-12-24 04:37:15
Yay!

Yay, i can finally use x-flash! Without having to manually mod my psp!
by - 2006-12-24 05:02:37
reply

Hey thanks, but I don't see it that way. I do see what you mean, but I didn't take it that way. I look up to DAX, and it is true that when he does something like 3.02, some other devs are forced to update their stuff.
by - 2006-12-24 05:05:31
ps

ps. I was a bit pissed they didn't use the Christmas picture in the thread that took me 10 mins to make! :D :P

by PSPZorZ - 2006-12-24 07:22:42
f

Yes, it has been possible to change background in every XFlash so far and, since there is no specific note that this v. cant, it should be able to.
by - 2006-12-24 11:14:45
Damn

Reduced gameboot sized no higher than 100 kb( or around that size) I mine as well go back to se-c and wait for another dev-hook :/

by - 2006-12-24 21:01:30
Art is cool

Your reply to spock was really well said. I always loved your X-Flash program and respected you. Well now, you just went up a notch in my book. Please keep up the good work!

background

what are the dimensions and size requirements for a custom background
by - 2006-12-24 21:27:52
.

First? No, you weren't first. Offers what? Support for a new firmware. So no, you're the one who should "f3uck" off
by - 2006-12-24 21:30:13
.

Nope, custom fonts work fine in the PSX menu.
by - 2006-12-24 21:32:16
.

Uh, have you tried changing it to the black one? Why the f*ck wouldn't you check the settings first?
by - 2006-12-25 00:47:37

I'm glad they nor I offended art and I completely agree with pirate jack
by - 2006-12-25 01:35:35
Registry

It says I have a registry problem ?
by - 2006-12-25 11:38:25
Don't work for 3.02 OE-B

I installed OE-B and was excited for finally playing Driver and FF on it. I ran X-Flash 18b and it detects a wrong registry version, and although you have Parental Controls off, it detects them as on, freezing your PSP to a hard reset. Wait for a 18c update real soon to be compatible with OE-B...
by - 2006-12-25 12:23:40
works 4 me

well x-flash 18b works here with 3.02oe-b only one thing I've noticed, the exit-line is gone!! or am i missing something here?
by - 2006-12-25 12:29:06
dd

lol, i found the exit-line...! and still it works on 302 oe-b
by - 2006-12-28 12:51:40

i had the same problem at first go to settings/system settings/restore default settings... and it should work golden
by - 2007-01-14 20:27:32
