Map This! v0.4 |
Ó
You can tell that Christmas is well and truly on the way with just about every famed PSP developer feeling the holiday spirit and releasing a new version of their applications; some of which we haven't heard from in a little while. Well, it's been a month and a half since we last heard from Deniska, but today he has come out of the developer closet once again to give us another great update to map This!.
This nifty application turns your run of the mill PSP into a fully-fledged map viewer on your portable screen, capable of locating points of interest and directing you to where you need to go using a GPS device. If you haven't already got a GPS receiver, you'll be happy to know that Map This! v0.4 is now compatible with Holux's "Worlds Smallest GPS receiver" which you can get on eBay for around US$ 80. Cool huh? Here's the full changelog:
- GPSFS format support. Map tiles are stored in a custom format for much faster transfer and access rate.
- Zip support for maps is discontinued (since it was too slow for large maps)
- Added logic for low baud GPS devices (by Zero Altitude). To activate put SLOW_GPS=1 in config.txt
- Straight and path distance calculation in map mode
- Ability to add POI. ([X] in Map Mode)
- POI search / display. ([O] from Attraction selector screen). List the names of up to 100 closest points of interest, which match your search criteria together with distances from current location
- Variable read-speed for "GPS from file" mode (FAKEFEED=1). While re-playing your pre-recorded GPS data, press [X] to toggle re-play speed between x1,x3,x5,x7 speeds
- Last position recall. The application memorizes the latest position and zoom settings for each map.
- Improved map rotation logic for TRACK-UP mode. Use TURNSPEED variable in config.txt to specify the minimum speed at which screen rotation takes place. This allows to reduce screen rotation due to deviation in GPS coordinates while the device is not moving or moving slowly.
- Google maps version updated to most recent in WIFI Download mode.
- "No UMD" bug is fixed. GPS read functionality does not depend on UMD in drive, wifi switch or hold button position.
- STARTUPMAP=... option in config.txt allows to go directly to a specified map and enables the GPS mode.
- Improved and hopefully mode informative help screen ([START] button)
- New (faster) garbage collection logic (old logic used to crash application on large maps)
- More accurate distance calculation in GPS mode.
- Code cleanup (source code attached)
- New version of Windows Map Download Tool by in7ane (GPSFS conversion/support, new map vendors and much more)

great app, where can we get maps for it?
This shows what good coding and hard work can accomplish. I salute you Deniska.
does it work on 2.8
Probly not on 2.8 but you could try.......
This is a great app and it is well featured, but I don't have a gps receiver, I don't have $$ to get an ebay one cuz I just replaced my car engine (for Christmas) so now I don't have to walk everywhere....I was wondering if this would work with a cellphones internal gps. Since alot of newer cell phones have usb ports I think it would be easier for a smart programmer to make use of that gps, or for that matter make an internet capable PSP when not around wifi....yeah, I know I'm an idiot...lol
serg - look in the map_generator_for_windows folder. This is the greatest homebrew app I've ever used! I do have one question for those who have built the custom cable for the GPS box. Has it been tested on the TA-082 board? I really want to take advantage of this feature, but don't feel like wasting money or my psp. Thanks!
Nah, this software doesnt work for cellphones..only PSP :P .. im not sure if there is any gps software for cellphones look around on google :P
So, I guess even if we rip and provide our own prx, this app has no plans for being compatible with the psp gps. I can get it now from play-asia! It would be awesome to be able to use the official one.
i would like to know this as well. does it work for the official gps?
this does not uses gps, it simulates one,
Nope tried it and just got a blank screen :(

Ya it would be great if it worked :-D
Great, just need to get it working with the official psp gps addon.
it doesn;t work on 2.8
in theory it should work considering the fact that the cable doesnt bother anything inside the psp. wont waste your psp but money could possibly be wasted if you mess up the custom cable.
Thanks man. I'll probably try it after Christmas.
@Mr. Black He's not asking if it runs on cell phones, he's asking if he could hook his cellphone up to the psp via usb, and use the phone's usb device @xfg Did you even read the article about it? IT USES A HOMEBREW GPS RECIEVER FOR THE PSP. WHAT THE ***** IS SIMULATED GPS?
The only thing holding me back from using this was the 2 million PNG files i had to transfer to the FAT12(?) file system which made it use more space on the card than it actually need. Now that the GPSFS is out i will use this. I tried it and it's awesome. The maps download fast and they load fast, even satellite ones.
Will this work with the new PSP GPS reciver just released? I know its JPN but Im just wondering. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bh-49-en-70-1mij.html
when u download it u open the file then u will see a foler callled map veiwer go to it then open map generator for windows go to Google Maps Download then go to bin then debug and run then app
"when u download it u open the file then u will see a foler callled map veiwer go to it then open map generator for windows go to Google Maps Download then go to bin then debug and run then app" What do you do after you run the app? I get a screen with google maps when i run the app. do i search for a place and save it? i don't see any download button or something. i have no idea. any comments would be appreciated.
Scroll to the left. there should be a drag bar at the bottom of the app. download button is in the upper left.
emm. Honestly this is not a lie, i downloaded this and half of my data has been deleted! I went on the google thing clicked on download, and the program froze and deleted half of my stuff!
"fb f this does not uses gps, it simulates one, " That is not true it uses a GPS device.
Ok how do you debug the maps?I'm using a mac os x.Since this comes with a windows application.
Can Someone please tell me where I can get a map from Fresno,CA.That is compatible with this.Since I dont use windows, maybe one of you guys can help me out with this.
i would just like everyone to know that this app could never work with official gps because the "official" gps only has satalites for it for japan. LOL i repeat it would be pointless to do this unless in japan. period
Do you know if the play-asia version will work in the US? Is it even English?
