LOLstation - POPS Fix for your PSP

LOLStation was created by QJ.Net forum member Pharonyk - Image 1

Homebrew developer Pharonyk dropped by QJ.Net Forums today and released an application that, if loaded right, will make all of you go laughing out loud with joy. The application is called LOLstation - POPS Fix and quite helpful if you're the type that wants playing PXX video games on your PlayStation Portable (PSP). Be reminded that this has only been tested with 3.10 OE-A custom firmware.

Basically, LOLstation will flash two files to your flash0. This then will allow you to have a custom boot and ultimately lets you play PSX games. Pharonyk explained that having a custom "opening_plugin.rco" (boot) would interfere with your PSP POPStation. Also, the developer mentioned that he has provided an edited "game_plugin.prx" with PSP's default "opening_plugin.rco" that is renamed to "0pening_plugin.rco".

Basically, the application is good to go, provided that you know what you are doing. Remember that you run the risk of bricking your PSP every time you flash any type of file. Please be sure as well that when you load this application, you have some free space in your flash0 and not in your memory stick.

Having a fully charged battery and the AC adapter plugged in will also help a lot. Enjoy and take care!

It patches game_plugin.prx so that the game menu (POPS) loads from 0pening_plugin.rco (which is an original opening plugin). A plugin from 2.50 doesn't work with POPS, obviously.

That way, you can have a custom coldboot without ruining POPS.

Why do people still say that having a custom opening will screw up POPS? I have a custom and it works fine. You just have to be careful in creating it.

This Homebrew will flash two files to your flash0 to allow you

to have a custom boot and play PSX games. If you didn't know,

having a custom "opening_plugin.rco" (boot) would interfere with

your PSP POPStation.. So this basically doesn't make it interfere!

This program gave me quite the scare. My game folder would no longer work so I had to downgrade to 1.5 and upgrade to 3.03 OE-C. Upgrading is so intense.

This has been done before. You just had to do it yourself. I've had a custom boot with ps1 games working for a long time now. Like Tek said you have to be really careful in doing it. If you mess up you will have to remake your custom firmware. So this is no new news.

I consider this useless because I had to do this manually. I think that (I'm not sure) that this has illegal files because you have to decrypt the game_plugin.prx and then hex-edit it so that it points to 0pening_plugin.rco instead of opening_plugin.rco, so it must at least contain one illegal file?

Reply

# noGuest 2007-04-09 11:44
That is not true. It works in regular 3.10 OE-A, 3.10-OEA2 OR 3.10-OEA', BUT IT BEATS THE PURPOSE IN A2 OR A' BECAUSE THE GAMEPLAY IS TOO FAST IN THOSE.

# .pharonyk 2007-04-09 12:05
It's great that you consider it useless but this is useful for others who don't know how to do it manually. Also.. Why would it be illegal? You own the file on your PSP.. and if it is.. then oh well.. take down the article and the download as well..

Right so i tested this on 3.03oe-c before anyone said it was for 3.10 only, and yeah it crashed my memory stick and what not, then when putting my backup flash0 onto my psp it said it was full.

so then i deleted everything in flash0 on psp and then put my back up in and everything seems to be working fine.

this means my psp is squeeky clean of any changes this program made right?

# maybeGuest 2007-04-09 14:23
Does 3.03 oe have this same problem?

If so, you could probably just get an orginal opening_plugin.rco put it in flash1:/vsh/resource and hex edit a decrypted game_plugin.prx from a 3.03 oe firmware psp to point to that location and I would expect it to have the same effect. however, I don't use 3.03 oe and have not tired it. But it shouldn't perma brick your psp if you did decide to give it a shot.

I like this not because it allows you to change your opening_plugin thing but... wouldnt this allow for some real nice fixes to popstation? Maybe bug fixing and disk swapping abilities for games like chrono cross.. Im not a programmer or anything but im sure having popstation as an executable/ homebrew kind of thing pharonyx or someone else can throw stuff like that in..?

So many dumb people.

First off all, if you 3.03OE-C users had read the readme, you'd have known not to use it.

And of course Second off- if you wheren't that dumb, you'd have backed up the original files, and you could have just put them back in through recovery.

And finally - you don't even have to downgrade to 1.5 to reinstall a constum firmware.

Looks like we've got a smartass here, eh? First of all, you DO have to downgrade to 1.5 if you can't access your game folder, because that's where you run the custom firmware installer. Second, even if you DO put the original files back in, the game folder will NOT respond, I tried it myself. Finally, IT DOES NOT SAY THAT THIS IS FOR 3.10 OE-A ONLY IN THE FILE'S README. Before you try stating something, make sure it is well thought out.

Yes, this contains illegal files, I expect it to be removed soon, so if anyone wants it, you should download it soon. It contains edited firmware files and it's illegal to distribute untouched fw files, much less modified ones.

As long as you created your back-up from a clean FW install (like created it as soon as you flashed cfw, before you modified anything), then you are correct.

You're a retard... If you JUST NOW figured this out, you're way behind, because anybody who visits maxconsole forums, or maybe qj forums (i dunno) knows about this and how to fix it. Not one single person figured it out, a lot of people did... he can't give credit. And he doesn't have to, he just put it into a simple package to make it easy.

# Well,well...Guest 2007-04-10 08:02
Actually you don't need to downgrade to 1.5. just put the 3.03 OE-C flasher in ms0:/psp/game/recovery and run it through recovery mode...

Second of all, if you put the original flash on it WILL work because that's all that was changed. The only way it wouldn't work is if either the IPL or IDstorage was changed, which would most likely cause a full brick.

Also, about the readme, even if it doesn't say that, READ THE ARTICLE! It clearly says FOR 3.10 OE-A' ONLY!

Update to 2.71 and use HEN-D (available at http://dax.st) and run the 2.71 generic downgrader (with the 1.50 update eboot). you can also get the 2.71 generic downgrader off of http://dax.st and the 1.50 eboot can be found at dl.qj.net or psp-hacks.com
