PSPRadio">Raf, the brains behind the PSPRadio, has again marvelled us with an update for his homebrew application - Links2 browser port to the PSP.  It has been updated to Links 2.1-pre23 PSP r1231, and as you already know, this latest version is now based on links2.1- pre23, as mentioned in our earlier reports about this app.

This browser has been tagged by many PSP users as one of the best because it has much more support than the Sony's PSP browser in higher firmwares. As always, you can download the standalone EBOOT if you wish to launch the Links2 browser from your PSPs XMB, or the PSPRadio plugin if you wish to launch it from Raf's PSPRadio application. The source code was also released along with the usual package. For now, Raf filled us in on what is new with this release.

NEW FEATURES

Using a new mouse cursor (Edited off of the freely available theme http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=13524)
Implemented h/w double buffering to go along the s/w double buffering (more like triple buffering). This solves the flickering of danzeff.
Slowed down the mouse pointer a bit. Also made this a configuration item (mouse_speed_factor).
Renamed config item psp_bb_to_fb_factor to screen_zoom_factor
Added support for 16bpp to danzeff
Modified links to use 16bpp; this saves a lot of memory.

BUG FIXES

Cleaned up the call to the input handler. This resolved some timing issues that were causing the graphic glitches (menu screens not clearing up correctly).

It also wouldn't hurt if you guys will share what you think about the app, so as the good developer can hone his craft and perfect this fine application. So don't hesitate to think out loud through your comments.

» Stupid.

...I'd rather the author fix the browser so it doesn't crash ever freaking 20 seconds from getting out of memory...

» login problems

is raf trying to make this browser able to login into sites? like when u log into an email account or into other sites that require logging in? or is that impossible for this browser?

I can login to some sites fine, but sometimes others don't work (eg: gmail)

as for a sugestion, running out of memmory isn't something that you can "fix" you can't give the psp more memory, what he could do is add in an option for virtual memory via the ms duo, although that could shorten the life of the memory stick, but you could alwasy use you 32mb stick that came with the psp as you "virtual memory stick". Or maybe put in a check before it runs out of memory so it dosn't crash, that way you can stay on 2links and then maybe just clear the ram and start over. Better then having to exit out

» Gmail Works

Gmail works fine, just use the mobile layout. I can log into sites also. Great work raf. Glad to see you put a new cursor in.

» hotmail.com

I was actually able to acess my hotmail mail, although images didn't load and the screen was just grey with text, but it's better than 2.71 browser

» great

it's great to see you make the perfect Links port for the PSP. Maybe some features from the other forks could be implemented ?

» Incredible!!

This browser is flawless. Last release I was a little skeptical... the flickering keypad and everything. But this one really has all the bugs worked out. I use this app over the devhooked Sony browser everytime due to the speed and the usability... Sony's insanely small amount of precious memory isnt wasted here. Keep up the good work Raf!

» sorry to say

I just wrote a long apraisal of this latest version using the browser and typing was easy and a pleasure - but I could not submit it - no matter what I tried - I was saying the browser is near perfect and that all the bugs seem to be ironed out - but I can't say that now :( All other aspects of browsing I found a breeze and this will still be my number one choice by miles. Keep up the good work

I wish he would make it so you connect through the set connections, rather that having to type in the IP adress.

» zoom is gone?

I found the zoom function with L rather handy, to bas that its gone (or isnt it?)

For the rest it rocks! this is definately the best psp browser.

And for the memory problem, just flush your cache now and then, especially when visiting sites with lots of pictures on them.

Big props!

» Scrolling still doesn't work

That up/down scroll didn't work for me in r1222 and it doesn't work in this one either. Up takes me to the horizontal end of the current page, and Down takes me to the bottom-right corner; both the horizontal and vertical end...like you'd pressed ctrl-pagedn in Windows.

What's the cause? What's the fix?
