JBG Flash Pack released for PSP v2.70 only

Lupin in our forums, of group JBG, has released a pack for playing Flash files on PSPs with v2.70 firmware, called the JBG Flash Pack.

Basically, most Flash sites viewable on the PSP are too resource heavy, and therefore the browser renders the site inaccessible. With this pack you can view any Flash file you save onto the PSP's memory stick and then launch it anytime you choose. All files are referenced using an easy text index.html file. Simply drag and drop the folder included in the download to the root of your memory stick and open up the web browser, enter file:/hs/index.html in the address bar (then bookmark it!).

Install notes:
Drag and drop included folder to the root of your memory stick.
Open up your PSPs 2.7 Web Browser and type:
file:/hs/index.html (Bookmark it for quick access later on)
And choose what you wish to view.
Once the Flash is over or you wish to watch something else simply press L to go back to the main page

Included are 14 Flash files, mostly animations, and it is planned for the next release to include more Flash games and animations along with enhanced HTML, instead of plain text.

Download [JBG Flash Pack v.001]

the flash animations works with file assistant 1.2 so it's not just for 2.7 all firmwares can use it we just need to copy the *.swf files to our mem sticks then open them using file assistant now who's starting to fill sick if your on 2.7 you can only use games and animation for flash 6, I just got file assistant to run a flash 8 animation admit it did crash after about 20 sec's in to the animation but with a bit of luck in the next update of file assistant we will have fully working flash 8 on firmwares 2.6 and below anyone on 2.7 been sick yet rofl ;O)

» flash and buttons

only prob with flash games is that you can only click and follow the mouse. i did a test using a text box to display key presses and non of the buttons registered.

also think about it. all the main buttons are used for browser functions and cant be used in the flash.

sony should have made it so the sholder buttons and the D-pad can be picked up but sadly they didnt

if im wrong please tell

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-26 02:57
» Setting up

Although Cache sounds nice to have alot of, setting it higher disables alot of flash files, since it REDUCES available memory for them to play in. Turn off the cache and enable Flash in the system settings if you get a "Content cannot be displayed".

Anyways, trying this out now.

by cubiCPixel - 2006-04-26 02:57
» Yeeah! :D

First of. Anyone dissing flash is dissing the evolution of animation. The mathematical processing of imagery is the best way to obtain small size files and still having the best quality possible.

I hope that sony will take adventage of this enovation toward the PSP to add vector drawings and movement in video games. Grafficaly better and also cheaper on size. Sony is on a good path believe me.

I'm still running on 1.50 for LUA developpement and homebrew full accessibility :-p but flash might be the only reason why I would upgrade. Anyways peace out.

ps: comments 4 and 8 are a proof of lack of intelligence in most youth these days. Improving Flash is positive. Dissing dosn't help. If you don't like it play with yourself.

» Sorry for 2.7 user??

why are so many sorry for 2.7 users ??

i'm sure anyone (including me) who updated to 2.7 don't give a rats ass about homebrew (NDS homebrew owns PSP homebrew) ... otherwise they would left it on old firmware

i personally like the new firmware and it's made me anxious for the upcoming releases .. hopefully the Downloadable demos flood is soon to start!

Why does everybody is staying on 1.5 when the homebrew are so crappy.I can just play NES,SNES,GENENI S,GBA,and N64 on my pc than a PSP.Its way faster too without any slow down and freezes. Also playing PSP ISO really suks because you need a bigger memory card and the game wouldnt work and shut down.Playing LUA is like playing some ad on the internet.Im telling you,1.5 is really crappy if you ask me because I can play ROMS on my laptop.

by Anonymous Coward - 2006-04-26 03:48
» SOmeone check it out

Soon someone will look at the code in this firmware and add it to the homebrew on v1.5 PSPs. Map out the buttons and POW - a whole new world of games to play on the go! Give it some time - it was nice of sony to add this so now devs can look at and inspect the code used to get it runnin gon the PSP. Hopefully they did not imbed and code that allows it to run only on 2.7PSPs...but tricking the PSP into thinking that it is another firmware is coming nicely

Why is it that everytime a new firmware comes out people need to start this homebrew vs latest firmware argument. Then when an exploit is found a lot of the people who updated to 2.70 will use homebrew again. Then the whole process will repeat itself when a new firmware comes out. Is it really needed to have firmware arguments?

» This is bull...

Okay, to start... I do not care about homebrew, that is what my pc and xbox are for. So upgrading to a 2.7 was a wise move for me.

But I do have a problem. I know I installed the files correctly, as I am able to view the included flash files... no problem at all.

My problem is this, I saved the flash Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny to my memory stick, altered the .html file and all... but when I click on the flash to start it... as it begins to load... "There is not enough memory."

I did change the settings on the cache, and cookies... but this one file will still not open... WTF!!! This was the one flash I was interested in porting around...

when you view a flash file on your PC, it is saved to the temporary internet files location. To access this list of files, (i'm using windows XP Pro):

Go to Control Panel: Internet Options:Tempora ry Internet Files: Settings:View Files:

When the window opens, find the flash file, and copy it to your memory stick on PSP.

#57: Search 'Flash Saving Plugin' on Google. FSP is an app that allows you to save SFW files to your HD.

I tried out some games, and honestly, Sony hasnt perfected it yet. Basic games like Curveball run at about 5 fps, whereas more complex games like Madness Interactive and Thing-Thing Area dont load because of a memory error. Hopefully Sony will fix this by the time firmware 3.0 comes out.

» 25:

Well, technically, 3D graphics qualify as vectors, drawn based on mathematical and numerical data, as is their animation. Possibly one of the larger contributors to large file size in 3D graphics is texture data, which, unfortunately, is usually image- or animation-based. If a game were made with vectorized texture data, it would take up immensely small filesizes and wouldn't look blocky at any distance. Given, texture detail would not be as realistic as can be found in images, but some amazingly realistic things can be made in vectors. Naturally, though, the greater the detail in vector textures, the greater the processor load. Also, it would take a good bit of work to modify 3D rendering engines to process vectors and then map them onto 3D polygons. For that, we may as well be using higher-polygon models with base-color or image textures. Definitely not a bad idea, but a bit too ahead of its time for current-gen abilities. As for 2D vector games, that's already being done.

» A Short How-To

Okay, for those of you who are completely clueless, here's a quick and dirty little guide that will hopefully answer your questions.

To install:

1) Use WinRar or something similar to open -- it's a compression like Zipping but different.

2) Take the hs folder and place it directly into your PSP drive, which we will call "x". It should look like this:

x:/hs/

3) Open the PSP browser, and type in:

file://hs/index.html

then open the page.

4) Bookmark the page for future use.

5) Enjoy!

Troubleshooting :

1) Why can't I hear anything?

You must enable Key Tone in your Sound Settings in the PSP's main settings menu.

2) It won't load!

Set your cache to the largest size, and try again. Also check to ensure you have the path name correct.

3) How do I add my own Flash?

You must place it in the folder on your memory stick you want, then edit the index.html file to point a link to the file.

4) My Flash file keeps getting an error like "There is not enough memory." or "Content cannot be displayed." What's wrong?

The Flash file is too large to load into the PSP's cache memory. Either use a program to compress it, or go without for now. A good compression program is Flash Optimizer.

Hope this helps some people!

» FLASH ANOTHER WAY

or you can just download a flash using a flash saving plugin for internet explorer, save the flash you want, make a folder inside your PSP folder called FLASH, put the flash file in the FLASH folder, goto your internet browser and type file:/psp/flash/xxxx.swf and there you go
