iR Shell New Menu!

Ahman has released a new version of the worlds greatest PSP Shell (iR Shell) as part of the NeoFlash Summer Coding Competition (2006). iR Shell is the most functional, and most up-to-date shell - beating out all the competition. The main features of this shell are beyond imaginable, ranging from playing music while you play homebrew or retail games to playing homebrew straight off of your PC! This is the most functional shell as I stated, and this is definitely no exaggeration.

There have been several changes in v2.0 and additions - the most appealing being support for Devhook! Many have struggled with Devhook screenshots and could never return to iR Shell after having launched Devhook - now this is all possible! There has also been support for Ad Hoc WiFi transfer - meaning if you have a laptop with WiFi enabled, you will be able to browse its files and folders wirelessly without needing a wireless access point! The full changes can be found below -

  1. Introduce a new icon based menu system.  Special thanks to Terdinglage for designing the graphical icons for the menu system.
  2. The nethostfs has been enhanced to support domain name in addition to IP address which means you can now access your home PC with a domain name, such as myhomenet.com via WiFi hotspots.  In order to avoid unauthorized access to your PCs, a challenge/response protection has been added for nethost access.  You can optionally assign a password/key to your nethost server for a secure access.
  3. Support launching of devhook directly from iR Shell.
  4. Added Adhoc WiFi support for nethostfs access.  This will be useful when you don't have an access point, or want to connect your PSP to a notebook computer at work.  To use Adhoc WiFi support, refer to the user guide for details.
  5. Added support to allow Infrastructure WiFi homebrew applications to connect to a PC via adhoc without having an access point.  To enable this support, turn on the option "Allow Adhoc PC Connection for Homebrew". Pls turn off this option to use normal adhoc gaming features.
View all the instructions for the new features, instructions and more highlights at the NeoFlash Coding Competition entry!

Cool.

I just woke up and what glorious news to awake too. Downloaded it already and I can't wait to try this after some errands and food. Thanks again in advance AhMan. This shell has proven it's worth and I have no doubt it will impress me yet again.

by art - 2006-08-20 04:28

No devhook iso support :(

by manaox2 - 2006-08-20 04:41
Best. Homebrew. EVER.

IRSHELL kicks so much butt that Ahman has to stop every 10 seconds to scrape the gallon of crap off. Glorious.

hmm

How do you return to the icon based menu, from when u are in the text based (Old look) IrShell menu.

And for number 11: No it still doesent work. I read the it in the readme :)

by StoneCut - 2006-08-20 05:44
switching

@23

You cannot switch from the Sony Desktop back to iR Shell, but you start a UMD game or homebrew and THEN you can switch back and forth again.

by Gabe - 2006-08-20 05:48
Switching between XMB and IRSHELL

If you're referring to switching between the XMB (sony desktop you called it?) and IRSHELL, then yes you CAN do it, just use L+select

by fred - 2006-08-20 06:42
Anyone got nethostfs working?

I set the proper IP and all but IRshell just sits there at the Initializing WiFi screen despite the fact that nethostfs is recognizing the PSP's IP as having connected. Any suggestions? I'm open to them.

@21

What IS SAD IS YOU CARING ABOUT SOMEONE YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW'S SLEEPING SCHEDULE.

by taekwondokid - 2006-08-20 07:03
2 important Q's....

uhm i have 2 important questions..

1) will this work in v2.71???

2) how do you install it??(like where to put the files, where in psp....?)

by carlos from france - 2006-08-20 07:03
same for me

i'm happy that i'm not the only one...seems that nethostfs doesn't work...arrrrggg

by Alex - 2006-08-20 07:20
ISOs work

Just put them in the IRSHELL\SYSTEM folder on your mem stick and cycle through the files via home+r/l till you get to your cso/iso.

by Eleven - 2006-08-20 07:37
why is this sooo SLOW?

I cant get thi sto work properly. Why does it take so long to highlight anything, and also once i get it to the devhook icon it takes forever to ask me if I want to load it, then when it starts to load it hangs, then turns off. Is there a Readme or help file anywhere, id like to get this to work properly.

by noob killer - 2006-08-20 07:38
stupid priks

no homebrew support on 2.7-8 u dik heds so obviously dis wont work

by sad - 2006-08-20 07:41
yep

nethost not working for me either.......

by hm - 2006-08-20 07:42
nethost

NETHOST is not working properly in this release.

I've tried many things and I'm convinced it simply isn't working. On the pc I'll see that it has tried to connect - but then IRShell just hangs at the initializing wifi prompt forever.

Usbhost is working fine, and I havn't tried the adhoc nethost thing.

But NETHOST over wifi with an access point even configured correctly is giving me and several other people trouble.

by Illegal Machine - 2006-08-20 11:09
For those of you too inept to properly remap the MS via nethostfs

1. In the configurator, set your Ip address to 192.168.1.101

2. RUN the nethostfs.exe, and leave it open. Set to high priority if desired.

3. in iRShells menu select the proper command to implement nethost remapping for MS1

enjoy

IR Shell taking up all my psps memory

Hey guys, for some reason IRshell takes up all of my psp's memory and once the program starts, ittakes forever to respond to commands; when i tell it to go back to XMB (and after waiting an eternity for it to do so) it does so, but it now runs @ like 1 frame per sec. Can anyone help me out? Whats going on here? Why is my psp being bogged down like this? By the way this only happens with IR shell.

by AhMan - 2006-08-21 01:04
Use nethostfs 1.3

For those who are having problem with nethostfs, you need to use the latest nethostfs version 1.3. The old 1.2 is designed to work with iR Shell and won't be comaptible with 2.0.

You can download nethostfs v1.3 from my site at www.irshell.com

by .A.J. - 2006-08-21 02:50
Give AhMan the prize.

Everything works fine for me. I don't see how this program can lose the Neo Flash competition. If IRShell loses, I've got to see what beats it out. I've used this for months and it just keeps getting better. Thanks AhMan, great work as always.

unzipping IR shell

Do i unzip the nethostfs.prx on my pc or psp? Also what program works with .prx?

Unzip the pspirshell16.zip and place the files to your PSP under ms0:/. What is the ms0:/??

I just downgraded to 1.5 and I was told to try IR shell so sorry if I sounds like a "noob" but I guess I am to the homebrew scene.
