iR Shell 1.6 Unwrapped for PSP |
Ó

Ahman's iR Shell application has definitely become a household name to most PSP owners because of the usefullness and preacticality of its features. The previous version already packs a punch, with the loads of updates great Ahman has equipped version 1.6 with, it's a certified knockout.
This time, aside from allowing us to listen to MP3s while playing games, iR Shell 1.6 enables our PSPs to stream any files via WiFi or USB to any of our fave homebrews. Straight from Ahaman himself:
"Imagine having your whole mp3, movie & photo database on your PC and stream them real time to your PSP via WiFi or USB for unlimited storage and enjoyment. You don't like to convert your movies to PMP format? How about streaming your MP4 movies to Sony's XMB movie player? Having too much fun and can't stop playing your PSP? Well, you can setup an alarm to remind you stop playing. Your favorite shell now gives you all these features at your fingertip, plus a lot more."
Now I'm sure every single PSPanatic out there is barely able to understand/read all the text (heck, I won't be surprised if you miss reading this line) out of sheer anticipation of what these new features really are, so here they are:
- You can now browse your PC harddisk, DVDROM or any other PC storage devices from your PSP via infrastructure WiFi or USB connection and stream files to your homebrew applications. You can even install PSP homebrews on your PC harddisk and launch them on your PSP, just like a huge virtual Memory Stick. 200GB memory stick is now a reality!
- You can open files directly with a single click via iR Shell file browser, such as PMP movies, PMF movies, Atrac3s, mp3s, photos, text files, PDF files, ZIPs, RARs, etc. These files can reside on your Memory Stick or even on your PC storage device.
- Launching XMB within iR Shell which allows you to use all features of XMB, plus taking snapshot of it or UMD Video.
- Alarm clock to remind you important appointments.
- Low battery voice warning to remind you to recharge your battery before it drys up.
As great as a developer Ahman is, he also recognizes that he can't achieve this feat alone, so he wishes to thank the following: Tyranid for making usbhostfs for PSPLINK; Dark Alex for making nethostfs; AnonymousTipster for developing the ZIP & RAR Unarchiver Plugin for iR Shell; StoneCut for being my favorite beta tester; Skydew for providing the new Help image files; Triable for making various nice graphics for iR Shell; Rangedunits for supplying a free hosting service; all original plugin authors; and of course, all iR Shell beta testers for providing valuable suggestions & counterless hours of testing.

Now, as a testament of QJ.Net having one of the best PSP community around, SG57 and Macca from our forums, have released tutorials on how to set up your WiFi Nethost and USBhost for file streaming via iR Shell.
Anticipating the flood of questions, SG57 provided this step by step process for a WiFi NetHost Setup:
1. Download IrShell v1.6
2. Download the Network Host File System Server for Windows.
3. Extract and Install IrShell onto your v1.0/v1.5 PSP
4. Extract the Network Host File System Server file to anywhere on your pc that you want to view, my suggestions is the root, this allows complete access.
5. Launch IrShell
6. Press R+Start and start the Configurator
7. Scroll down to NetHost IP Address option.
8. Click 'X'
9. Now, leave it there for a second while you obtain your IP Address on the local machine.
10. To do this, start the Command Prompt.
Way 1: Start->Run->'cmd'
Way 2: Start->All programs->Accessories->Command Prompt
Way 3: Go into any text editing software, and type in:
"command.com" without the quotes and save it as a .bat file.
11. Now, you may need Admin privleges so, react appropriatley
12. Type in the command prompt: "ipconfig" without the quotes
13. Where it says: IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.PORT#here. PORT#he re (Remember that number or just keep it open)
14. Go to your configurator on your PSP again
15. You should be editing the defualt Ip address provided
16. Replace it with what you get on that line in the command prompt... in my case, I had recieved: IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
17. Now press Start
18. Now go down 1 option and youll see the XMB Network Config Entry for Nethost: with a defualt of 1...
19. Set this to whatever number'd connection your using... Meaning if the connection you want to use is ,in the XMB, 3rd on the list, set this number to 3.
20. Press start.
21. Enable or Disable the Redirection of APP view to host for ms0:/ mounting (for launching folder specific homebrew)
22. Press 'O' to save settings
23. Now go to where you had extracted the Network Host File System Server file, and run the nethostfs.exe file
24. Now, a command prompt should pop up and stay up.. this is opening a port on your computer for the PSP to access, so fire wall'd or not, allow it.
25. Now, just go to your IrShell and if set correctly, press: L+Analog-DOWN and it should initialize your connection and in that command prompt, print some multi-threading issues and what not...
26. NOW! If running homebrew via PC, press: L+Analog-RIGHT This redirects AKA mounts your nethost0:/ drive as ms0:/
27. If you want to stream music and such, just go to the filebrowser, click the '..' AKA cd out of the current directory. Keep doing this until you reach the root of your memory stick... If you click it again, your into the drive selection menu. Here you can view files (if connected) on your HDD via nethost0:/, USb if connected and intialized via usbhost0:/ and UMD via disc0:/... then the reuglar ms0:/ for memory stick
After doing all this (correctly that is), you should be able to enjoy file streaming flawlessly. A few reminders from SG57 though, he says "any time you NEED to Wifi - ically connect, just go to the drive selection in the file browser and click 'nethost0:/' and it will automatically connect."

Now we go to Macca's USBHost tutorial.
1. Download irshell 1.6 and the usb host file drivers (all of which are included in this post)
2. Unzip them to an easy location, I unzipped mine on the root of my d:
3. Start the usbhoststfs.exe
4. Install irshell the usual way
5. Press l+ analog up to start the usb hostfs
6. Windows will now tell you that new hardware has been found, choose to specify a place for the drivers, then choose the directory where you unzipped the usbhostfs file, eg d: in my case. Choose the drivers folder then click next. It should say completed.
7. Hit l+ analog up again and you should be connected!

Pretty simple huh? You should be now enjoying the full features of this awesome app. If, despite all these instructions, you're still having problems with it, don't hesitate to ask questions, I'm sure everyone's as nice as SG57 and Macca and will give you a helping hand.

if anyoen know how to fix that i offer a 2 million dollar reward . aside from that im gonna be cheking the functionality on this program over the coming weeks.

iR Shell currently doesn't support homebrew which has been renamed with the "SCE__..." scheme.
As a workaround you can launch AnonymousTipste r's Unpacker plugin from /IRSHELL/EXTAPP/4/EBOOT.PBP via DIR view and use the "Extras" option there.
You can then rename these folders to standard naming convention and they will show up in the homebrew menu (APP view).
To hide corrupted icons when using iR Shell please use SeiPSPtool or similar instead.

i dont have a wifi router, but judging from the usb virtual memory stick, it looks like everyone involved (the guys behing the actual experiments and the irshell coder itself), its a very polished work!
we NEED adhoc connection for the wifi virtual drive !!!!! :)

THE
BEST
homebrew i have come across to date.
AMAZING work. Thanks a lot. You guys are wicked. Makes me glad i've stayed on 1.5 After this, the n64 emulator and devhook are the best. I've been with irshell since it came out. It used to be ircommander i think.
Anyways, i think you CAN have portable storage streamed through wifi or usb. For usb, use a portable hard disk or something with usb host. But then, where would we install the streamer app? As for wifi, do you think those palm lifedrives could be used? hmmmmm
WOOOOOPEEEEE!!! !!

it's a great idea and i already use irshell, but it's still too early i guess. wifi or usb mass storage arent working (yes i have launched the apropriate hosts on my pc).
if someone managed to do it....

@ #36. Be sure you follow the steps outlined by the forum members. There's a few things outlined such as having admin rights on the PC which may cause problems...

so the usb is working right now. i managed to open a jpg and an mp3, everythings cool!!
but what about videos? i launched xmb, but there's no way of browsing back the usb folder to open my .mp4
did i miss something?

I really like that shortcuts way of going around instead of point and click.
nice additions would be the possibility to pan with the stick when viewing pictures and a way to read .txt files.

I was just playing some ISOs through DAXZISO the other day through USB... it has the future promise about wifi included also... so then I was just wondering it it would be able to run any sort of file from the XMB and all that. Like that would be the ultimate adition to a PSP.
NOW NO MORE SPACE LIMITATIONS!!!!
Now it not only supports USB but wifi as well this has got to be heaven man! And all you need to keep your portability is an internet connection without any type of firewall!!! This is just awesomeeeeee... at least I hope it supports internet access, since theoreticaly its completely possible.
Anyway I can never thanx enough the great Ahman for the amazing work over the past months on this incredible shell... if it was already the best shell available... now it has gone through the roof and away!
Again congratulations Ahman!!!! AMAZING WORK!!! I dont know if theres anything left to do with this shell... but keep it up!!!!
AVMexican... Proud Mexican and a 1.5 proud user!!! Prouder everyday!!!!

HERES WHAT YOU DO:
1. open the nethostfs.exe, and leave it open. Or minimize it if you really feel the need.
2. Run irshell and enter the configurator. Set your IP address to whatever your comp says your IP is when you go to Start/RUN, type "command" (without quotes) and then in the C:\WINDOWS\syst em32\command.com window where it says C:\DOCUME`1\OWNER> type in "ipconfig /all" (again without quotes). here it will tell you what IP to put into the configurator. save settings and return to iRshell.
3. NOW, and this is where I got stuck, and probably you too. Enter, iRshell, and hold down LEFT TRIGGER+ ANALOG DOWN. this activates the network connection. Then hold down LEFT TRIGGER+ANALOG RIGHT. this makes your drive MS0.
it should work if you set it up correctly. I made a little duplicate of my MS structure in some drawer with MP_ROOT and it works for me now that I know to use the proper button inputs to get it running once its set up... Hope this helps because this app rocks

I ran IRShell, then ran the Configurator (R+Start), and selected the Skin Browser... it's empty
Am I missing something? Or do I have to switch the skins manually by copying their files into the main IRSHELL directory?
