Interactive XMB theme called The Maze - Image 1Interactive XMB theme called The Maze - Image 2

The homebrew scene is teeming with custom PlayStation Portable (PSP) XMB themes lately. Each one is different from the other in terms of texture and whatnot. Homebrew coder PSProdigy just came out with another one and we reckon that it is quite different from the rest.

It's called The Maze for two reasons. The first one is very obvious - just look at the screenshots above and you can mistake this as the innards of Egypt's great pyramids. Kidding aside, more than its visual appearance, The Maze is called as such because the theme itself is interactive, meaning it's a maze you can actually solve.

The main icons are part of the whole gig, of course, but the tricky part are the sub-icons. Instead of making normal sub-icons, the developer implemented the icon's glow for them (they fade in and out). The only one that you can see is the sub-icon you are currently on. PSProdigy pointed out,

These will either have hints on where you should go, they may lead you off course, or they may reveal nothing. But if you pay attention, you should be able to piece together the beneficial ones. A problem with this which I've not yet solved is that when using a custom high quality 01-12.bmp (24 bit to 32 bit) the sub-icons become white squares on the XMB.

The coder added that the original 01-12.bmp as well as a background for users have been included to help fix the above-mentioned issue. Also, if you are curious about the maze and are having a hard time solving it, the cheat was included in the file.

Nice job, PSProdigy!

not to sound like a debbie downer but this theme sucks and there needs to be a themes page for people to go to and check instead of themes being displayed as new.

IT DOESNT! OMG. Idiot. O and the white box is because you don't have 32 bit icons.

well i haven't tried the theme so no comment on that, but there really does need to be a page dedicated to PSP themes, and not organized by date like that terrible download site.

A adjective

abundantly filled with especially living things; "the Third World's teeming millions"; "the teeming boulevard"; "harried by swarming rats"

This is very creative. I will use this on my 3.30 OE sometime. Right now I use the bubble topmenu for 330 OE but when I'm feeling smart maybe I'll break this out. n1

# VSHPONG ;)Guest 2007-04-20 04:08
hey bro ;) dont forget VSHpong it was the FIRST INTERACTIVE XMB VSHTHEME while granted it did not use the ICONS witch regardless of the FLAMING unappreciative 13 year olds whom have contributed little to the scene for them to say " this theme sucks" just displays there childishness :( thanks for working very hard on this theme although it is not to my individual taste...i do appreciate your work as there arent alot of these types of mods floating around theres a real future in this ;) so i DO look foward to future releases by theese devs.

just a thought though...maybe less of a eye sour like VSHPONG would be better i mean stick with classics ASTEROIDS,PACMA N,KABOOM or FROGGER maybe the retro classics we are still WILLING to play today and we still see REplay value commercially being produced today :) i mean pacman and frogger STILL have new games releasing on next gen consoles :)

This theme really IS the first interactive theme. It doesn't use a plugin for vsh. vshpong uses vsh (of course)

Well thanks everyone for the kind words... glad I worked so hard on it...

And for everyone trashing this because it isn't for 3.10+ , the reason is because I'm on 3.03OE-C so I don't bother to convert things for later versions... there are many threads in the forums which you can get conversions from, or you can (here's an idea) learn to do it yourself :P

I fixed the white squares problem also, it is now fully working with a 01-12 and no background.

@JohnnyMcKinney what's up man? It's Sparta from Syphon Filter :D
