Homebrew coder pj1115 says goodbye - Image 1Homebrew coder pj1115 dropped by QJ Forums today and released a collection of homebrews, including full source codes - just ready to be compiled with the PSPSDK. As much as this sounds great and exciting, this isn't entirely a good day for the community. Because you see, pj1115 is saying goodbye to us all.

According to the homebrew developer, his depression has escalated as of late and he feels the need to get away. It should be remembered that he has done this before, leaving the scene, but pj1115 mentioned that this time is for good. He lamented,

The biggest and saddest reason is the scene. Still glorious as always, though it now lacks the excitement and the triumph you felt waiting for something groundbreaking or using it. Back in the day of 1.50, in the day of 2.50, and in the day of crude, cheerful homebrew. We've come too far, is the bottom line. I don't mean to be a killjoy, but the scene is wilting, and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

So there. He said his goodbye and left the community some of his precious works. It is now up to you to say your farewell to pj1115. Below is a summary of the compilation and we here at QJ hope that whoever will pick them up, will cherish the applications and remember pj1115 every step of the way.
  • PSPG (PSPGuides) - Spent a really long time making them, but Google deleted them and I had to go through an unbelievable amount of trouble to get the files. HTML format. A little outdated (goes as far as 3.02, so Devhook, firmware and custom firmware history, downgraders, etc are out of date).
  • HideMedia BETA II(FIX) - The fixed version of BETA II, which caused some reversable 'damage' to the MS's folders. Everything works fine now, or so it should. Includes full source. If you encountered this, use my fixer HERE.
  • FirmwareAutoBooter - You may not have met this, but I it fashioned a while ago, borrowing some code here-and-there from the open-source SXT's BFM. It's a firmware loader, designed for 1.00 debug, with no GUI, so it's cool if you set it to autoboot in OE. You'll boot straight into the emulated XMB. Full source included.
  • HTML Sound Hack + Flasher - My HTML sound hack's latest build, as well as the source code for the flasher. If you didn't see this, it allowed you to modify the PSP's default browser sounds (ie, for the menu). I don't think it works about firmware 3.03 since Sony re-organised the files. HTMLviewer.snd no longer exists.
  • Outa-Space PSP - My flash0 space free-ing application. Full source included, as well as some tips for further development (in the main.c).
  • PSP3D.com Official XMB Theme + Flasher - I suspect that few of you will be interested in the actual theme (which is outdated and incomplete anyway), though the source code for the flasher is included.

As I said, my depression recently turned sub-clinical, but the main reason is the scene itself. It's more the generation of hackers than anything else; mine has been and gone.

BTW watch this vid:

Wow whats with the *****ers that are posting comments that say "Who cares hes not DAX". You know something? ***** you all. DAX ain't exactly the most precious person to the scene aight? How bout people like NEM or even better the person that created the original GTA Cheat Device! I mean everybody forgets him and ***** but taht guy is the most important person to the scene so far. Without Edison Carter we would have no 2.71 or 3.03 downgrader, we would have no homebrew on 2.01 - 2.70. Sure fanjita helped, don't get me wrong. But if one thing is certain DAX definately isn't the most important person to the scene. He's always thought of as so amazing, but you know something, I think we're all forgetting about Fanjita, NEM, Edison Carter, and Ditlew.

If you lot want to take the piss, go do it somewhere else. I may suffer from depression, but I'm not on the very brink of suicide.

And who's to say I won't come and work on the PSP2? If there's a calling, I may come back.

Nem is the guy I admire most. Forget the custom firmwares for a minute, forget the ISOs, forget the firmware launchers. The first step is always the most exciting, and Nem is the guy who made it happen. (Along with the PS2Dev guys). Props.

Anyway, back on topic. You may be discriminative inconsiderate f*ckers who have nothing better to do than to mock a mans' life and even it's very value.

Thanks alot to those who ARE supportive.

I agree that the homebrew scene is dieing

All that the home brew scene is now is a firmware update every month or two, then a new version of devhook will come out then a day after a new firmware is released , It will be decrypted By team c+d Then Dark_Alex will turn it into a custom firmware by the end of the week. And i don't like what QJ net are doing with all of there news , All that will usually get posted on PSP updates is news about the new releases of games by companies like sega , EA and Rock star . And thanks Pj115 for making homebrew

pj1115, i don't trust any/a lot of those posts are yours. but if you read these, thanks a lot for all your contributions to the homebrew scene from someone who holds great respect to all off the contributions and contributers. i know what you mean... it seems as tho the scene has dimmed a bit in the last while. it seems like there isn't too much more to do, and all we can do is expand on the things we already have. dispite hating to see a great coder leave, i think that its good for people to get away sometimes.

people who are mocking this are very disrespectful to not only pj1115 but it goes to show that very few are grateful for all that others do to give to us all like pj1115 has. SHAME on you! >:(

thanks again pj1115, just wanted to let you know that there ARE people who respect all you've done.

i'm sure it's a shame your leaving the psp hacking scene, but wouldnt it be easier to leave through the backdoor and not make such a big deal over it,or even better just do what every body else does and take each day as it comes and not state what your days of tomorrow will be(or not be as the case maybe).

I also used to have mild depression, and I have known a classmate who had severe depression. These people do not know what to make of depressed individuals, they think they are broken or something. pj, please pay no attention to them. I think that people who suffer from depression are simply experiencing more thought processes than "regulars." Anyways, not to bore you, so my opinion is this: No matter what you believe in and what your future looks like, keep your head up high and remember that you will always be honoured among PSP'ers

Aww, so sad to read that. You're depressed and feeling neglected by the scene? Feel it's dying?

May I ask which one of those apps really changed the scene? I respect you for making a contribution, but you'll hardly be missed. I mean you make it sound like the scene will now die without you.

And what's the boring part? 3.30 ready to be hacked? Not like there still isn't a lot that can be done (like free VOIP extensions for one)...

Looks like someone is just craving attention... somehow I sense a gf isn't the reason you're too busy...

Some developers do become too legitimately busy with an actual life to work on homebrew like they'd like, but they don't leave a sob story...

I'll shed a tear if DarkAlex ever drops out but I'm sure we'll make due without you, but all the best....

The homebrew scene is dying. I remember back when a good app could actually be used. Bout 2 weeks ago the homebrew scene was all XMB mods. Bout 2 years ago the homebrew scene was emulators and more. There are a few good homebrews out there (IrShell, PVNC, etc.) but the scene is going to *****, sorry to break it to you.

For f*ck sake, this was NEVER about me leaving. It was about the fact that I had released all my SRC behind. I never ASKED to be talked about like that. I never ASKED for QJ to even mention the fact that I was leaving. You can shut the F*CK up if you think I'm doing this for attention. If you were suffering from something which will kill 1-in-3 people who DO suffer from it, wouldn't you try and calm your life down?

I never said I had coded anything groundbreaking. If there had been an incentive, even something as small as a bit of gratitude from the end-users' (for even the smallest thing), I'm sure I could have worked harder.

I may have said the scene was wilting, but I sure as hell didn't say it wouldn't spring to life any time soon. And no, this isn't one of those things where I will be back any time soon.

I'm not even going to bother commenting again. I know for a fact that all I'll get is abuse and disrespect. Good luck to you all.

Oh no what will we do now that whatever his name is has left the scean? I guess I'll just throw my psp away since there is no use for it any more. But be careful if we keep making fun of this guy (who ever he is) he'll get all upset and more depressed and my kill himself. oh well take some prozac and cheer up.

Props to PJ. I know him personally on PSP3D and he is a neat guy, if you're reading this PJ ignore all the 8 year olds here, they are the true destroyers of the scene. I'll miss ya buddy,

There really isn't much excitement left in the homebrew scene.. We've already got everything we could need, XMB, GBA, GB, PS1, and everything in between in the emulators department, so why should I even bother upgrading to the next OE? The only reason I'm still comming to this site is for upgrades for Daedalus, the only really exciting thing left on the homebrew scene that has yet to be perfected. That aside though, there's nothing really left that I need.
