FullScreen Browser for the PSP v1.0

PSP Browser - Image 1PSP homebrew developer, TheNameless, passed by our forums lately to share a nifty application that most PSP users would find really useful. The app we're talking about is the FullScreen Browser and it aims to improve surfing with the PSP Browser.

According to the dev, the PSP browser has a big handicap - the websites are often showed in a squeezed and even useless manner. Well, that's what he thinks, so he decided to do something about it,

TheNameless' FullScreen Browser re-sizes the resolution of the browser window to a normal resolution. So using this would let the websites keep its design and are more readable. He says that this "works on all firmwares since 2.0. No homebrew support required."

With all that said, we thank TheNameless for sharing this app. Be sure to check out the readme file that comes with the download and the forum release thread.

W00t! First!

Thats a pretty useful app there. At least it'll make web browsing easier. Ps. Guess who's first!

~~

klasse idee! werde es später gleich mal testen. kann ich dann 1024px auf der gesamten breite des bildschirms betrachten, oder muss ich scrollen?
by - 2007-01-31 07:13:46
3rd good too

you once, twice, three times a lady!

Wait a second...

How does this "[work] on all firmwares since 2.0. No homebrew support required," yet require a download? How does this even function? Is it some sort of proxy on your computer that recompresses the page for the PSP, like Opera Mini? And isn't the scaling for this a lot like the PSP Browser's "Just-Fit" display option? Not that I'm complaining about this. Many of my favorite sites are rendered useless by the PSP browser (Digg, Facebook, et. al.). I'm just curious.
by - 2007-01-31 08:12:17
How it works

It's just HTML combined with javascript. You actually load it in the standard browser, and then it will embed the page you want to scale.
by Kichigai - 2007-01-31 08:16:58
Nevermind, answered my own question.

Looks like this one is an intriguing, locally-hosted script that resizes pages before the browser renders them. I admit, the PSP scaler is... lackluster, but it seems to me that it would just cause out-of-memory errors. Have yet to test it. It's worth noting that BECAUSE this is just a locally hosted script, it DOES NOT WORK WITH 1.50. It works only with firmwares 2.00 and higher, since it requires a web browser to execute (which 1.50 is notably lacking)

lol

Lol, you call this an app? It's just a hack, not the DAX typ of hack, just an easy solution anyone would just make themselves in half a minute or so. I guess it's good for the noobs though
by - 2007-01-31 08:20:56
I see no difference.

I have it on my psp now and it looks pretty much like is I just put my psp to just fit. I really don't see a difference.Could I be doing something wrong?
by - 2007-01-31 08:37:34
sweet app

this is a great addition. its hard to believe that this hasn't been done before... anyhoo, its very well built. with easy access to your standard bookmarks and a clean interface. make sure that your configure you page setup to NORMAL Ecco Legendz. Press Triangle while in the webbrowser, and then select the box with the A on it. Mitch
by - 2007-01-31 08:39:59
Excellent app

Now all we need is one that will let you use a keyboard on the web browser (you can get roll up ones dirt cheap) and maybe even something that let's your cache to the memory stick.
by - 2007-01-31 08:42:07
shatap...

Dude, just because it's small doesn't mean it isn't useful. A hack is a hack, despite how much work goes into it, or what it does. This is actually a very good app. Nice, simple, yet effective. I'm surprised that somebody hadn't released something similar. Keep up the good work ;)
by - 2007-01-31 09:09:12
rofl

This aint more than a iframe -.-' This should have been 5 minutes of work =P
by - 2007-01-31 09:12:48
STD is BoP

I don't really care about full screen support. give us larger CATCH size and I'll be happy! i hate it when i get the "Out of memory" error, pice of *****.
by - 2007-01-31 09:53:44
this is a just a simple hack

no real programming here. anybody could have did this in 5 minutes!

by Whyser - 2007-01-31 10:53:57
There is a MUCH easier WAY TO DO THIS

Let Google Pre-Format the webpage for you. Google has functionality to change any website to fit for a mobile device such as PDAs, etc, and it works on my PSP. I use this all the time... http://www.google.com/gwt/n?client=ig&u=[insert URL for website here] For example, when I surf PSPUpdates, I use http://www.google.com/gwt/n?client=ig&u=http://pspupdates.qj.net and bookmark it so that I don't have to type all that again. And when I want to switch pages, I just replace the URL in the link. I use this for all my web surfing, it's very very useful.
by - 2007-01-31 10:55:03
Just think...

if you had taken 5 minutes to make and release this yourself then people could be flaming you right now.
by Whyser - 2007-01-31 10:57:06
forgot to mention...

oh by the way, most of the links you click on the Google Pre-formatted pages will also be pre-formatted so that while you are surfing around, everything will be pre-formatted nicely and you will never run into the caching problem
by GODzillaSDM - 2007-01-31 11:03:42
all you complainers

all you complainers about not real programming, and that any one could do it in 5 mins?? Well, then you should've spent the 5 mins and release one for the public. Wait...ur lazy ass didn't and can only complain. Just cuz its not programming, doesn't mean its not useful.

tu mama

la tuya hijo de tu puta madre...
by - 2007-01-31 11:57:41
...

ok, it might be useful to some people, but still I wish to point out that it is no application
by - 2007-01-31 12:02:42
...

The point is that you are lazy for not making it for yourself, personally I didn't find any use for putting sites into frames, so didn't do it (my point at my first post on this newspost was more that it's a hack, not an app, than complaint btw)
by - 2007-01-31 12:56:23
Hmmm

I cant get it to work on 3.03 OE-C all the pages are still full size..... I set it to normal but still no go?
by - 2007-01-31 14:30:48
..

Go ***** yourself...
by - 2007-01-31 16:03:51
To everyone having problems

Read the readme! It's not supposed to automatically resize every website by just putting a folder in the root of the memory stick. You first need to load the file inside the folder in the browser. Great app (yes, I call it an app). :)
by - 2007-01-31 16:42:42
kinda cool

i like it since now sites like wikipedia show up properly
by - 2007-01-31 17:34:48
I highly doubt...

...that you know how to code it. It's not something just anyone to do; I don't know a thing about HTML or Java, so I know I couldn't, but I'm not a n00b to most other homebrew.
by - 2007-01-31 17:40:00
^

on 1.5? just devhook any firmware to have the browser. problem solved.
by - 2007-01-31 17:45:05
Yes, but...

...no one did till now.
by - 2007-01-31 18:19:20

I did what the read me said and it still shows full size. No matter which resolution I pick.

by - 2007-02-01 01:36:40

This isnt an app or a hack. it's a SCRIPT. God.
by - 2007-02-01 03:13:03
yeah

yes it's a script and so useless.. damn put your time and work in other stuff than this doh supernerd
by - 2007-02-01 03:37:26
Impressive but....

Full Resolution Doesnt help with the already low psp system ram itll only eat it up more and then we have problems browsing! plz add memory stick caching and all will be solved
by - 2007-02-01 05:51:36
..

i have been testing this google thing since last night and i never run out of cache memory also u can close all the extra links and headers and stuff or choose to hide the pictures. this is a great method whyser , everyone else should try this its makes psp browsing easy . thanx for the tip .
by - 2007-02-01 06:05:09
..

i dont think so. eminem has changed very little since the first album . he is exactly the same on record as he was from the beggining . this shows a lack of maturing in that time or... more likeley he has postponed his mental growth to collect massive amounts of doe from those people that think he is somehow real. the lack of change is a sign that he is not talking anything 'real' but rehashing a formula that worked from the very start. his general hatred on record remains ecen after years of wealth and even after years of wealth he still pretends like he's struggling . he is a sell out, his style is good but dont think he's real life ***** , because real life is relative to each and eevry one . another person might think micheal jackson or norah jones or bob marley is real life. does the fact that thier music and eminems music dont preach the same mantra make them any less real ? no. it just means they are real life but in a different place than eminem . at the age of 30 plus i would have liked to seen the boy eminem become a man but it seems he is more of a POP artist than anything else , rehashing the same old formula that made him famous.
by - 2007-02-01 13:43:59
wonderfully AMAZING

this hack so good, it makes me think that 303oe-C is a dumb product! Thanks for hacking my browser NOW every webpage is GREAT looking gorgeous dead drop! :)
