Flashing Through: X-Flash Kerrang Build 5 |
Listed in: Homebrew Applications Tags: Custom Firmware, firmware, iR Shell, psp homebrews, X-Flash
Ó
This application by Art, X-Flash Kerrang, could alter as well as create a custom firmware for your PSP. The original Dark_AleX Custom Firmware modification does not work under MPH firmware launcher. Now we all know that all great things come with some form of risk, and this cool tool is no different. As with all flash-related apps, there's a slim chance of ending up with a brick if you don't know what you're doing. So it's best to read a li'l of it's history and the notes included in the readme if you're new to it.
Changelog:
- Additional 'old school' screens added to the credits demo including equalizer style music visualization, media player style music visualization, fireworks effect, vector objects, and spinning circles.. all in ASCII!.
- Home and Start buttons can be used for program controlled exit.
- Select button is a shortcut to the XMB Menu Label Editor.
- Real time checking for activated USB mode. Program will not run if it is launched or resumed from a shell with USB mode activated.
- Startup checking of available RAM. Program will not start if over 2Kb of RAM is tied up by another application.
- New Easter Egg for this version has been given away in the thread.
- New Icon and accompanying AT3 loop.
- Programming optimization.
- Detection of iR Shell module (thanks to AhMan for the method). No possibility of launching X-Flash from within iR Shell.

I don't think it is very safe for the average user. At least, there are so many more things that could go wrong than with the downgrader for example.
Tinkering with the flash, unless reasonably well practised in the art, is likely to end with tears and a bricked PSP.

Not for newbies tho...
Reply
- disable network update to prevent accidental update.
- remove sony intro screen
- change to a different gameboot (prince of persia blood gameboot is awesome, don\'t use some stupid filesize and you\'ll be good)
- remove wave effect
- custom fonts
all changes are reversible, use it and enjoy! This along with custom firmware POC and irShell is just awesome.

it shows that even a kid could use it without a brik

Then don't post it on your front page, and I won't post it on your site. There are about two stories of bricked PSP units
done wth my program that I find believeable at all.
I have never asked for any of my programs to be front paged.
It is fine if you chose to do so,
but if you start out your article by shooting down my hard work, don't expect to be updated with anything I produce in future.
Art.

Next time you use something, read the instructions, Jeff Richardson. Don't come crying to us just because your son couldn't take a few seconds to read a readme.

Also #5 meant that the version spoof is only to play games that require below 2.0 on a 1.5. i.e. 1.51 and 1.52 games.

I apologize if I offended anybody. I guess, it could have been better phrased. Your concerns are taken into consideration. Again, my apologies for the misunderstandin g.
