Easy-to-use RCO Swapper |
Ó
We all love homebrew applications. Despite having said that though, it's a given fact that not every single one of us can be as good as some of the devs here like Dark_AleX, Noobz, and others. Some want to customize their PSP units but are afraid to do so because of the lack of technical know-how about hexediting or patches. One specific homebrew coder, Daveychan, understands this perfectly well and that's why he made his app so easy to use for us all. RCO Swapper is a handy utility that allows users to change the first row of of names on their XMB menu. And as we've mentioned, there is no need to run anything else or manually hexedit.
Running this app is actually very basic. All you have to do is put "RCO Swapper.exe" and your "topmenu_plugin.rco" file in the same directory. After that, run "RCO Swapper" then edit the menu names and voila! You're done. Lastly, Daveychan has a couple of reminders to those who want to give this a try:
- If you don't have the "topmenu_plugin.rco" file in the same directory, you get the boot.
- Yes, you can use a customized topmenu_plugin file where you have already changed the icons.
- You are limited to the same number of characters as the orignal text. For example, the menu item "Game" has four characters ("G", "a", "m", and "e"), you cannot use five characters for your new name.
- If the menu has eight characters, for example "Settings", you must enter eight replacement characters, that's one new character for each original character. Yes, using a SPACE is fine to fill in any un-used characters. For example, "Game" has four characters, so if you enter "Toy", you must use a SPACE character for the missing fourth character "e". If you don't enter enough characters, you get the boot.
- You can only do this one time! A directory called "Backup" will be created in the same directory as the program, and a backup of your original "topmenu_plugin.rco" is copied there.
- The "topmenu_plugin.rco" file now has it's menu names swapped. Use your favorite PSP utility to flash the new file to your PSP. If you are nervous about flashing it, simply replace the "topmenu_plugin.rco" file in your Devhook directory (for example: DH2f0vshresource) to test it out before you flash.
- As with any homebrew application involving flashing, nobody is responsible for things that go wrong with your PSP except you!

why does dark alex have to be mentioned in every post? and always a tag too.
Yeah, it makes the tagging here useless. This site has really gone bad in the last year. I think I'll stop checking in here.
I agree, sure he's great but they could save some tags for his releases. and btw hexediting names are nothing compared to DAX's and Noobz's skills..
Just tried this out, and it's pretty easy to use, I like it. Thanks.
ok i got the top menu plugin right next to the swapper in the same folder. i run the swapper and it makes a new .rco and then i copy it to my psp with 3.03oe-c flash0 flasher from the recovery menu. ive tried it 5+ times and still no luck. anything im doing wrong?
I did notice that it doesn't seem to work if you put a space as a lead in character (works fine to addeds one or more spaces at the end though), and also it doesn't seem to work if you you're using a .rco that you've used the icon injector on.
i didnt have a space in front. all i want is GAME to say APPS and MUSIC to say SONGS
gonna change it in no time baby !
So why can you do this only 1 time? What happens if I change my XMB icons then a week later theres another XMB icon set I want to try out?
how do i emulate with devhook? installed devhook but i dont know how to use it.
Try making sure that you fill in all the fields. If you want to the other fields to just say what they already say, then just put that in there.
Then you create a new topmenu_plugin.rco file that has the old default text values and your new icons, then change the text.
