SVC Player

A few weeks ago, we featured a homebrew application by ADePSP dubbed as the DevHook ScreenVideo Capture Module. In just a short time, a lot of people were captivated by this nifty application that allows you to record game video footages. So take this major/minor update as a thank you for the support and appreciation from ADePSP and with that aptly said, we present to you ScreenVideo Capture Module v0.3 + SVCPlayer.

The developer mentioned that this new version is a minor and a major update at the same time. Amazingly weird, but let's start with the minor update. The latest release now enables you  to save GIF files in the /PSP/PHOTO/SVCPlayer folder. This paves the way for the major update which is actually the addition of the new SVC Player app that will let you playback those GIF vids that you captured. And for aesthetic purpose, you could also change the skins of the SVC player, some skins were even provided by ADePSP himself.

You should also take note that you should install the new capture.prx as well as the SVC Player homebrew app unlike in the earlier versions of this app when all you have to do is run the install.exe and you're all set. Another thing you should remember is that the SVC player could only support uncompressed GIF playback, so if you edit the file it will no longer work with it. Here's the changelog.

Changelog:
v0.3
  • SVC Player now included to playback GIF Animations on the PSP
  • GIF videos now stored in the /PSP/PHOTO/SVCPlayer folder
Controls:
  • D-Pad Left = Previous Video
  • D-Pad Right = Next Video
  • X = Play GIF Video
  • Left Shoulder Button = Previous Skin
  • Right Shoulder Button = Next Skin
  • Triangle (when playing) = Toggle Full Screen Mode (on/off)
  • HOLD Square (when playing) = Pause Video
Known Issues
  • Has been known to sometimes crash if recording when a game is loading. There is no danger here it's just annoying. Try to avoid recording when games are loading up.
  • This is still Beta software so you are advised to backup your dh folder before installing in case you run into problems.
  • The SVC Player currently only supports uncompressed GIF playback. If you edit the files in any way they will become compressed and no longer work with the player.
  • Playing larger full screen GIF files with the SVC Player slow down (depending on memory stick speed) because the buffer size couldn't be large enough given the memory available on the PSP.
Aside from all these, it would be best if you would read the provided readme.txt so as you'll have a better grasp of what to do with the app. As always, your constructive criticisms, reactions, and other what-nots are most welcome in the comments section.

There is a tiny mistake in the story above... You still only have to run the install.exe to get this setup...

I think the confusion occured because I was trying to say that just copying the SVC Player folders wont be enough to get it working however, the install.exe will do everything for you...

This looks like it's hard as hell to use and takes up a lot of memory.

The capture module uses hardly any memory at all... Check it out, it's tiny...

The player can stream any length GIF (unlike the PSP browser) which does use all the memory but it's freed up when you quit it...

# How do you uninstall it?Guest 2006-10-08 08:53
Even at half the screen size, it's a lot slower than I thought it'd be and it makes playing fighting games almost impossible. How do I uninstall it and return my devhook back to normal?

It's not 'that simple' because I use the music button to mute games quite often. I took like twenty screenshots in a row tonight just trying to get my Valkyrie Profile unmuted.

# Awesome work !!!Guest 2006-10-08 19:49
ADePSP thanks so much for your hard work on this great mod. It is awesome, and very much appreciated !!! A question: could I load that .prx with custom firmware to record homebrew? That would be great :D Thanks again !

# Uninstalling + Custom FirmwareGuest 2006-10-09 01:45
#14, You can ununstall by following the manual install process from the readme file in reverse (just remove the line of text from the devhook config files)... BUT you know you can change which buttons do what... Look at the configuration section in the readme (you don't have to have the screenshot be the note biutton)...

#15, I'm told it does work with custom firmware...
